Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.
Avatar m tn While the fasting blood levels are a reading at a particular time, the A1c levels are depictive to blood sugar values over the past few months. Though FBS around 100 should not be a problem, elevated A1c levels would indicate deranged values over the past months. In the current situation, it would be advised to continue with the diet control and regular exercise and avoid stress; and get the blood sugar values tested for, regularly.
Avatar m tn s thyroid and blood sugar is totally inadequate. Even at 350-400 her blood sugar is WAY too high.
Avatar m tn Hi, could be that the home meter was not so accurate. or could be that your blood sugar went up (it is possible), while you were waiting to go to the lab. Some people's blood sugar rises in response to extended fasting, particularly in the mornings. Suggest you get an hab1c done. This will give you your average blood sugar over the past 3 months. Ideally the result is < 5.0. If it is higher than 5.0 then you need to start watching your diet etc. If it is over about 5.7 - 6.
Avatar f tn I have pre- diabetes (fasting blood sugar 107) and would like to start taking fish oil supplements for health reasons. I've read that fish oil supplements can raise your FBS and shouldn't be taken by diabetics. I would appreciate any thoughts, comments or advice.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have not been diagnosed with diabetes. I have been testing my blood sugar at home the last couple of months. I noticed that commonly I would suddenly feel very hungry after 15 minutes of light-to-moderate exercise. This happens no matter how much I eat or when before-hand. An example of a particularly dramatic drop: blood sugar 137 before exercising. After 15 minutes light-to-moderate exercise, it was 85. This happens all the time, dropping from wherever it is, to the 70-80 range.
Avatar m tn However, the article also points out that an article published in the journal Clinical Nutrition in June found that there is no evidence that sugar or any food can actually become addicting to humans. What do you think? Is sugar addictive? Can people be addicted to food?
Avatar m tn even complex carbs raise blood sugar (BG) so watch them too. what drugs are you on? what is your BG... before you eat, 1 hour after, before your walk, during, after.
Avatar n tn ve done finger/arm tests throughout the day and have not had anything remotely abnormal. I had a fasting blood sugar level of 93 first thing in the AM and all my levels after eating were 135 or below. Could the 191 have been error? Should I request to have the one hour test repeated first before I torture myself with the three hour test? Or should I just suck it up and do the test.
Avatar m tn First when your blood sugar rises too high, causing your pancreas to release a large amount of insulin that drops your blood sugar too low, and second, a slow drop in blood sugar caused by your liver running out of stored sugar. Doctors used to think that insulin-induced hypoglycemia follows meals and that your liver running out of sugar doesn't follow meals, but they now know that both types can occur any time.
Avatar m tn I had went to the emergency last week because of some other symptoms that I have been having. They did a blood work up and my blood sugar level was at a 57. I hadn't eaten anything all day and by the time they had released me I had taken a couple of sips of my daughters sprite and it went up to 98. So the said I was fine. Since then I have been very worried about this so I decided to get myself a meter so that I could test myself.

Avatar f tn In high glycaemic index foods, the carbohydrates are broken down very quickly, and have bigger impact on blood sugar than lower GI foods. Ie. beans and bagel. Bagel is high GI and will have more impact on blood sugar than beans, which are low GI - even considering they have the same amount of total carbs.
215816 tn?1212490407 s called a three hour test where they keep making you drink the sugar drink and taking your blood every 45 minutes, to see how your blood sugar elevates when ingesting sugar and how your body deals with it. I have never has that test because they can't make type 1 drink that sugar. But before I became a diabetic and i was preg.
979080 tn?1323433639 If I were to check my blood sugar of course I would need to fast. How often do you check glucose ?
Avatar f tn Testing now and then after a meal can also guide you to choose food that has least impact on blood sugar. If you can keep your sugar in the 70 - 100 range all the time you are going to stay healthy and no risk of diabetes at all. The best way to stay healthy is to prevent problems. We do this with diet (unprocessed natural foods; not man-made processed foods). eat in moderation. be happy!
1033523 tn?1258035082 My blood sugar has always come back normal, but now that I have this am I going to have to test daily or is this something that depends on your results? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is all new to me. So I have some learning to do.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure the blood values you mention are related to your breast cancer or it's treatment. These things may be due to another medical issue and perhaps need the attention of an Internist or your family Dr. I'm sure your Oncologist will make the proper recommendation. Regards ....
Avatar f tn If the blood sugar peaks to higher levels after eating wouldn't that affect the A1C test? How does the A1C test work, does it average out your blood sugar throughout the day or as soon as it peaks to high levels that is what the A1C test shows? I am so mixed up regarding these tests.
Avatar f tn His last hiv test was a oraquick which was negative in December 2014 . After I checked his blood sugar values and was about to dispose of the lancet that this lancet pricked my finger. There was no bleeding immediately and I had to milk my finger to let it bleed and wash it off at least 2 to 3 times. I am paranoid now about my exposure risk considering my brothers sexual history. What are my risk with a lancet prick should I start pep.
Avatar m tn When the blood sugar gets better, your vision can actually get better or worse - the bottom line is that it changes. Now we really don't know how your blood sugar is doing - so it is very important to have a testing device at home and your insurance plan should pay for one. Talk to your doctor. Strictly follow all your doctor's instructions. Make sure you have a nutritionist help you with proper diet and see an ophthalmologist right away to see how the eyes are doing.
Avatar m tn Normally a rise before a fall is expected with the readings, though the blood sugar levels can be altered due to stress/ anxiety, severe hypoglycemia, medications etc. I would suggest discussing the test results in detail with your treating endocrinologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn You A1c indicates you glucose [blood sugar] on a daily average is 314-330 mg/dl, very unhealthy and can lead to serious life threatening conditions if not brought under control. Didn't you discuss your results with your doctor? Obtain paperwork on how to manage and control your rising glucose levels? Were you not prescribed oral medications to help lower you glucose levels? Discuss proper nutrition - what to eat, and especially what not to eat/drink.
1211508 tn?1343079605 I would just watch the refined carbs, white sugar, etc. These will spike blood sugar and Trigycerides. Beer does the same thing. Stick with the plant based foods and whole grains. They get the job done.
Avatar f tn Anxiety and medication can also cause chills, as well as sweats. If it turns out you aren't ill with anything, do you exercise at all? In other words, are you circulating your blood? Humans are built to move, not sit still. There are also warming herbs that can help circulate the blood, including cinnamon, though that will lower your blood sugar so if low blood sugar is the problem this isn't for you, tumeric, cayenne, and the like.
Avatar m tn In the last two days I woke up each morning with readings of 100. Within an hour, (no food or humalog intake) blood sugar dropped to 40. I ate (taking no insulin) and readings went up to about 80, but kept dropping to 60. I am doing nothing differently than I usually do. What is going on?
