325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar n tn s only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high. Just for the heck of it, I checked it when I went to bed and it was 336 around 10 p.m. I happened to wake up at 3 a.m. to use the restroom and thought I would check it again since it was kind of high when I went to bed.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
709686 tn?1277432159 They usually come with 10 test strips and 10 lancets and instructions, which should be plenty to check your blood sugar throughout a couple of days. Extra test strips can be pricy. If you go this route, most recommend checking your blood sugar first thing in the morning (fasting) and 2 hours after meals.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
1305767 tn?1361192676 I've never been diagnosed with diabetes but I started checking my blood sugar today out of curiosity. When I eat I tend to "graze" a lot so I eat small portions through out the day. Today I pretty much snacked on plain donuts all day, had like two bowls of cereal and actual dinner about 6:30 pm. I checked my blood sugar at least 5 times all at various intervals and my readings were all between 80 and 100. I just checked it now after drinking some hot chocolate and it's 106.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have not been diagnosed with diabetes. I have been testing my blood sugar at home the last couple of months. I noticed that commonly I would suddenly feel very hungry after 15 minutes of light-to-moderate exercise. This happens no matter how much I eat or when before-hand. An example of a particularly dramatic drop: blood sugar 137 before exercising. After 15 minutes light-to-moderate exercise, it was 85. One time I felt particularly shaky, and it was 65.
Avatar f tn t need one unless you are diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetics lives depend on knowing what their blood sugar levels are on a daily basis, so the blood testing has to be very accurate. An Endo is still best at doing your testing, any and all testing for this.
Avatar f tn Anyone seen / used the new freestyle test strips? I was given them just a couple of days ago. The new shape is nice but I'm suspicious of them. http://www.abbott.com/global/url/pressRelease/en_US/60.5:5/Press_Release_0876.htm I've heard it said that sugar is sugar, your body doesn't know the difference. So why should our test strips? I take my blood sugar when I feel like it's high but these things give me numbers in the 80 -90 range, never above 100.
Avatar n tn m not sure if this helps you, but I do recommend buying the store brand meter and testing. See which foods make your blood sugar go up, and then avoid them. I also had my husband eat and test with me so I knew how much higher I was than "normal" readings. We went to Chipotle and got the same exact thing (burrito bowl with chicken) and an hour later he was at 100 and I was 117. 2 hours later he was 86 and I was 119. Anyway, that's my advice & experience. Good luck!!!!!
Avatar f tn I found his meter - should I begin checking my blood sugar regularly? Would this be a better place to begin so that I can self-monitor not only to adjust my eating schedule but also to have some information to supply my doctor at the first of the year. Just not sure where to begin or what to do. The world is a lonely place without your parents to provide support and information! Thanks for your advice.

Avatar n tn There is a hormone that naturally raises morning blood sugar, its the way the body helps you to get moving in the morning. However over 300 at anytime is not good. Try keeping watch on your carbohydrates...they will play badly with your blood sugar, and don't feel bad to test your blood sugar, thats what the testing kit is for. I agree you need to find a new doctor. Good luck!
Avatar n tn d consider it an inaccuracy in the test strip, not your sugar. These test strips are expensive, though. Now I make sure I clean off my fingers before I ***** myself.
Avatar m tn Also, a finger stick is much more accurate than a forearm test, as it takes longer for the blood sugar in the forearm (less blood flow), to reflect the actual blood sugar than the fingers. So testing post eating blood sugars do recommend fingers.
Avatar n tn Sooo apparently I failed my 3 hour fasting test for gestational diabetes. However I have been checking my blood sugar for the past couple days twice a day and my sugar has not been high at all. Pretty good actually. I eat the right things and exercise and I hardly touch things that's really high in sugar. I wonder if this is just a glitch ? They want me to take this class and buy this glucometer and test strips thats over 100 dollars but I honestly dnt think I need them.
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
866901 tn?1505506236 My cat, Jax, is diabetic- I have to do random blood sugar curves. Well I have one coming up in Feb that I have to do- I do them myself to save money on the vet plus he gets so scared and traumatized after seeing the vet they may not get accurate results. My question is do you know anywhere I can get cheap test strips? Or a glucometer with the sample 10 strips for relatively cheap?
Avatar m tn ,fried potatoes refined oil to name a few )....and the testing was not done at home but went to a lab where my blood and urine checked for sugar.....blood 104 and urine -NIL result.
