325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar n tn They ha e me testing my blood sugar 4 times a day. First thing in the am, then 2 hours after eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Insurance should cover the equipment. 2 times a day isn't really going to give you a clear enough picture. Do that for a couple weeks and then discuss it with your dr. Mine won't let me back of the testing even though I have proven to be able to control with my own eating habits. The diet the dietician put me on made my numbers higher.
Avatar f tn Anyone else get diagnoses with this recently?
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
3530672 tn?1370038043 If you have good control over your blood sugar then your baby should not be impacted. Are you testing your blood sugar regularly? If you're under 90 when you wake up and under 140 an hour after meals, you are pretty much good.
Avatar f tn low blood sugar is not the same as gestational diabetes. however even with gestational diabetes you can have low blood sugar.
11195379 tn?1427921527 I agree. I would do the test again.
Avatar n tn Hi, certainly it is possible to have diabetes (more likely after gestational diabetes). You probably should be checked for type 1 diabetes, which can also occur as an adult. This will involve antibody testing as well as checking blood insulin levels. Although your sugar levels are not terribly high, they do seem higher than normal. Hba1c of 5.2 is not high, and still within high normal range.
1285850 tn?1291776435 Every baby has the possibility of getting any problem related to gestational diabetes though. It's not your fault! When were getting bigger we don't have much stomach room which causes our body to not have a lot of room to break down our sugars which can cause high sugar levels in any pregnant woman. Even if you have gestational diabetes then don't worry because many people have had healthy babies with it!
6674791 tn?1396215150 So I had my gestational diabetes test on Monday and they called me back on Tuesday saying my sugar levels were high-- at 130-- and I have to go back on Monday to do the 3 hour test... how many moms have experienced having to do the 3 hour test and how did it turn out?? My first pregnancy was a breeze with bo complications and this pregnancy is just one thing after another.
Avatar f tn It's for gestational diabetes. They will draw your blood before you drink the juice, then you will wait for an hour or two, they will draw your blood 2 more times. And that's it. You can't eat or drink after 10pm, the night before the test. The only thing you can have is water.
Avatar f tn I was told to not eat anything after 8pm the night before I had my gestational diabetes blood work. Prior to that I ate my regular meals plus a slice of cake during the day and a snow cone thar afternoon before. I failed my gestational diabetes test and had to go back and do the 4 hour testing. I was advised by a friend not to eat any sweets 2 days prior to test because apparently sugar stays longer and slower in your body while pregnant.
6674791 tn?1396215150 ( pricking your finger and testing your blood sugar ) as long as you control your diet and keep your sugar levels good then all will be good. If diet and exercise doesn't work they will send you to a diabetes doctor. I had gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy. I controlled it very well. This is my second pregnancy and my sugars were too high for fasting so they put me on metformin and I'm doing great.
Avatar f tn So my doctor says I have gb. I've been doing my blood sugar testing as I'm supposed to but it's never high and I'm eating like I always do.
Avatar n tn I have gestational diabetes for my second pregnancy. I am 37 weeks now. I was not able to control my sugar with my diet, until I started drinking apple cider vinegar with mother. I drink it throughout the day and I have been able to keep my sugar below 95 for fasting and below 110 2 hours after meals. I was prescribed medication for it, but read that it could affect the baby... So now I am doing it naturally, and very relieved.
233552 tn?1228319699 I think it was so high with I got it checked because there is a ton of sugar in the drink I had to drink. So I must not take in that much sugar at home. All I can do is keep an eye on it.
Avatar f tn I had the test with both of my first two pregnancies and will have again with this one...I think around 20-25 weeks. I have never had bad numbers, but a friend of mine did have gestational diabetes. It's just a low carb (fewer white starches), very little sugar and they ask that you walk A LOT. Good luck with your next test. Did you fast before your last test...I believe you are supposed to.... Good luck!
296738 tn?1235996403 I have Gestational Diabetes. I don't want you to get the wrong info so I have to chime in. All the girls that I know that have it are told to keep their blood sugar UNDER 120. We test 2 hours after each meal and once in the morning. We are all told to limit our CARB intake. My nutritionist said don't even bother looking at the sugar content, what matters is how many TOTAL CARBS you are taking in. Carbs turn into sugar basically. So my advice...limit the carbs that you are taking.
Avatar f tn So after my blood test I have learned I have gestational diabetes. 3rd pregnancy, & I didn't have it with my first two, nor before this pregnancy. Not over weight, we we are clean eater's and don't eat out. Crazy how something like this can put a dab of stress On things. My OB said more than likely it will go away after birth. Still yet. I have to geat a ultrasound twice a week for the rest of my pregnancy, on top of seeing my Dr every other week .
Avatar f tn The high untreated sugars are what cause the disease process. Resulting in higher triglycerides levels in your blood, as well as kidney artery and nerve damage. Which I'm sure you know given the family history. Since you have modified your diet. The next step would be excerse as that makes the muscles use more sugar and helps decrease insulin resistance. You will need to talk to your doc about that and measure your sugars closely as some ppl have dropped too low to fast.
Avatar f tn Thanks again for all your comments. It really does feel good not to be "alone" in the heck of a situation. As Mommyin10 said, I had low blood sugar before I got pregnant so this came as a big shock to me. I am thankful that my numbers are not really that high anymore but I have reasearched a "secret" that my doctor friend (from NY) told me and being it's natural, I figured it couldn't hurt and I have been noticing that my sugar levels are lower because of it.
8959643 tn?1418549184 ( dr is going to send me to a diabetes specialist and a high risk Dr to see more testing of the baby heart! I feel so bad I just want my little guy health... I just want too cry!!!
Avatar f tn Today I got a call that I have to come back asap because the tests came back and they need to do more testing where they will take blood every hour for 3 hours. Can anyone tell me what exactly this means? If the tests that I take tomorrow come back bad, what does that mean? What will I have to do?? Help please!
456039 tn?1302660148 It all breaks down to simple sugars. Same thing in your digestive tract. Pasta, bread, etc. It will elevate your blood sugar. There is no doubt about it. As much as you want to "just make it by" and not get stuck with a gestational diabetes diagnosis, if you have it, you want to know so that you can minimize the complications associated with it. Eating the night before or that morning shouldn't make much of a difference. But obviously it can make some difference.
Avatar f tn Gestational diabetes is a condition in which a lady without diabetes grows high glucose levels amid pregnancy. Gestational diabetes by and large outcomes in couple of manifestations; be that as it may, it increases the danger of pre-eclampsia, melancholy, and requiring a Cesarean segment.
Avatar f tn My fasting blood sugar came as 103, and my doctor has put me on gestational diabetes diet. Other day I was talking to a friend who had gestational diabetes(GDM),she said range for pregnant women is till 110. The time from when I have started GDM diet,I feel really low on energy. Any of you on GDM diet facing such issues? I have to get rechecked in a few days,so m strictly following the diet with absolutely no sugar and really low carbs...
141601 tn?1264728709 I have gestational diabetes and i have to test before breakfast and 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Avatar f tn FYI, it is not normal for blood sugar to be high in pregnancy. In fact, blood sugar is typically on the low side during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, any one know of any good shakes or natural remedies that can help?
231441 tn?1333892766 At least you will know how your body is tolerating high levels of sugar in your blood, early in your pregnancy. Obviously this OB/GYN is a cautious doctor who wants to make sure that everything in your pregnancy is perfect. Gestational diabetes doesn't just make for large babies. It can make for very sick babies. You certainly don't want that. My daughter had to use insulin through 2 of her three pregnancies and did just fine. Her last baby was 9 pds. 9 ozs.
