Avatar f tn It also helps to check your meter. Some require test solutions to make sure the meter is matching up with your test strips. Meters do have a tendency to be wrong.

1058898 tn?1275675151 they also was taking blood out of my arm every time they checked my blood with the meter. my labs were coming back as below 70. so this whole time when i started to feal hypo when my blood sugar was in the 90, it was really in the 70 and below. the endo said i have low sugars and i have to see a dietitian tomorrow to learn how to keep my sugars up. she didnt tell me why my sugars are dropping low at all. all she said is that its probably my diet. how does your diet make you have low sugars?
Avatar m tn In order to control your diabetes you need to know what your blood sugar is doing. So you need to buy a meter and test strips. there are cheaper brands. Then you test your fasting (ideally it is < 95), and you test 1 1/2 to 2 hrs after eating and ideally it is < 140, or even better < 120.
Avatar n tn At dinner I ate lasagna, salad, sweet tea. Anyway 30-45 minutes after dinner, my blood sugar was 118. Is this normal or does it seem kind of high? At the doctor last year fasting it was 91. Also, I have been suffereing from severe fatigue after my long runs and have to basically sit down for the rest of the day which I hate. I am going to start to check my blood sugar after these runs to see what it is. I eat alot after the long runs but it does not seem to help.
Avatar m tn Every year I go for routine check up and i am a little confused with my blood sugar test results. I have been monitoring my results since 2007. back in 2007 normal range in Canada was 3.6-6.0. Since then it has changed to 3.6-5.5 my results in the last few years have been as follows: 2007 : fasting 5.8 A1C 5.6 2008 : fasting 5.4 A1C 5.7 2009 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.9 (at home on meter 4.7) 2010 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2011 : fasting 5.2 A1C 5.7 2012 : fasting 5.9 A1C 5.5 2013 : fasting 5.
Avatar f tn Meanwhile I need a little clarification on what you are saying. You are saying that you test the blood sugar one minute and then a minute later you test again and it drops down. How much does it drop down by? Meters are not exact within a range of as much as twenty points, so if it is less than that it might just be the meter.
Avatar n tn s last two fasting readings in the morning on a whole blood glucose test meter were 111 and 112. He was 126 before dinner tonight (1/2 burger, some tator tots & fries). 2.5 hours later he was 165. His pedi just wants us to watch him and maybe look into doing some testing. What do you guys think? Just a concerned Mom.
Avatar f tn 6 told me to watch my sugar intake and I might have pre diabetes I panicked and I went and night I blood sugar meter, I check it atleast 4 times a day before meals it’s in the 70s two hrs after eatting it’s in the 90s then randomly I check it on it be in the 80s am I at risk ?
Avatar m tn You need to eat more. You should test your glucose two hours after you eat. Your fasting blood sugar should 80 to 110. Your blood sugar dropped 6 points is only because it didn't have time to react. Since you didn't wait two hours.
Avatar n tn s only necessary if I were on insulin. However, I will occasionally check my blood sugar -- maybe once or twice a month or if I'm not feeling well. I checked it on Sunday and found it was running somewhat high. Just for the heck of it, I checked it when I went to bed and it was 336 around 10 p.m. I happened to wake up at 3 a.m. to use the restroom and thought I would check it again since it was kind of high when I went to bed.
446335 tn?1223948356 glucose tolerance test. Prior to the test the lab does a simple blood sugar test using a lancet and a meter. BS comes back at 140. They perform the GTT with 4 blood draws (prior to glucose drink, and at 30, 60, 120 min.). The nurse calls me today and tells me I do not have diabetes, that none of the 4 draws showed diabetes. Yet the quick test put me firmly in the category of diabetic. Unless the meter is badly out of whack, what would explain this?
Avatar n tn Without a meter you are driving blind! The blood sugar meter will be used to test your fasting blood sugar and your post eating blood sugar (about 2 hours after eating). Using the information you get from this meter you can work out what foods do and don't raise your blood sugar. 2. Diabetes is a problem with carbohydrate metabolism. ie. your body can't handle sugar normally any more. The best and most logical approach therefore is to limit your carbs.
Avatar n tn The tests that give an exact number (such as a modern blood sugar meter) gives a more precise indication. While all testing equipment and chemicals provide information within a range of error (for example, a BG test of 100 on our home meter might result when the real BG is say ... from 85 - 115 or so). Nonetheless, as we get accustomed to how we "feel" when the meter gives a reading, we can use those readings to fine tune our control.
Avatar m tn Check if it can raise your blood sugar levels. Some high blood pressure medicine can raise the sugar levels. Know your body. It is the inly one you will have.
503651 tn?1223174601 I have been checking my blood sugar consistantly (finger tips) using the freestyle light. Every thing has been nomal except 2 times this month i got very high readings. One was 169 and the other was 144. However both times I retested using the same finger and got signifigantly lower readings. From 169 to 108 and from 144 to 100. Only a few secons elapsed between readings so i cannot figure out why it would go down so far so fast. Anyone have any ideas about this?
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar m tn I recommend getting a meter and beginning to test your fasting blood sugar (you want it, ideally under 100) and your blood sugar two hours after eating and those numbers should be under 140. Do not be discouraged if right now they are way higher than that as your A1C indicates. You might have had diabetes for awhile. With the right combination of lowered carbs, weight loss, exercise and medication they will start to come down.
7543158 tn?1391978069 That little test he does apparently keeps showing an average blood sugar of 130 when I know that to be untrue. I have a glucometer and check my sugar regularly throughout the day. I've even shown him my meter's log and he still won't believe me about my spikes and crashes. He believes I'm just overly worried and that it's all in my head. What do I do?
1305767 tn?1361192676 Before stating whether you are in danger of diabetes, or you are normal it would be nice to know the make/model and age of your meter. Age of the test strips, if you are within the expiration date of the test strips, and whether the meter requires calibration prior to use. Knowing the aforementioned helps to determine if your test results qualify or not.
Avatar m tn But based on my reading, it depends on how your body processes food and handle sugar. Youll have to test your blood sugar every hour for 3-4 days to see how your body reacts to food.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your quick response. Your answers have helped. My meter is calibrated to the test strips that I use - it came pre-calibrated when I got it from the pharmacy (either that or THEY calibrated it for me before I picked it up) and each time I insert a test strip, it shows the calibration number so I can verify that it is the same. You mentioned a test solution - I did not receive any test solution with my meter or strips. Is this something that I can/should purchase separately?
