Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar test home kits

Avatar f tn Good question! Made me go surfing the net as I have never paid attention to OTC A1c kits. First stop was the NGSP [National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program]. These are the folks who write the standards for A1c testing; hospitals & independent labs & mfg'ers of home kits and lab equipment. I noticed the Bayer Metrika A1cNOW met their stringent standards. For a list of labs and kits and what HbA they can test go here. On the left click on HbA1c Test Methods... http://www.ngsp.
Avatar m tn Not certain about India but elsewhere in the world A1c home test kits are available for consumer purchase at local pharmacies/drug store.
Avatar f tn So, you should feel confident in the Home Access test... again, any other HIV test that is not Home Access is not FDA approved or home use...
1330182 tn?1279815900 Hello! Has anyone used the at home test kits for checking thyroid blood levels? I was thinking of purchasing one :) I am not going to be able to get to the doctor for a few weeks so I am hoping that the test kit will give me some peace of mind for now lol! Thanks!
Avatar f tn However, if you can get a blood sugar test kit (and strips) you could test fasting blood sugar (as soon as you wake up and before eating), and 2 hours after meals. If these numbers are high, then you would need to see a doctor. Keep an eye out, there may be free blood sugar testing offered by some pharmacies / in malls from time to time. Why do you think you have diabetes? WHat are your symptoms?
Avatar n tn Teak, I understand there are no "home test kits" approved, but the FDA does approve the Home Access Express HIV-1 Test System in which you sample at home and send in for results. I was inquiring about this one. Any help would be appreciated. I can't find anything on the web.
Avatar m tn Hey i'm from the UK and I bought a home HIV test online. It says that if they are CE approved then they are official. I took the test and it came back negative. I did this first as the clinic was full and I could not get an appointment to be tested however I'm still going to book into a clinic to double check. Is this right to do?
Avatar m tn Currently, the only over the counter FDA approved home use HIV tests are the OraQuick HIV home test and the Home Access Test. It's much cheaper to just go to your local STD clinic for a free rapid HIV test. They know what they are doing, are using quality FDA approved tests, and can do the follow up confirmatory testing that your will need if the antibody test is reactive.
Avatar n tn Overall I would just see a Dr for a test. I know these test kits are approved for home but thought you had to send them in for the result.
Avatar m tn Hi are home test kits any virus in ..dont know make of mine but my cut finger touched test line when kit became dismantled and pipette..Could you get infected from kit.Dutch health inspectoarate were vague see below : Dear Sir We would like to answer your questions regarding the home tests . You do not state in your e-mail which tests you particularly refer to, therefore our answer will cover all tests.
1348086 tn?1370783185 No, unfortunately there aren't home kits for the average blood work. I'm sure it stinks to be afraid of having your bloodwork done, but it's necessary to maintain your health. You could ask your doctor to limit the frequency of bloodwork by combining as many tests together as possible, so instead of having to go 3-4 times a year, you could maybe do it once or twice a year.
Avatar n tn I have purchased a hiv blood rapid test kit and carried out test at home. As I read the instruction on the kit, I know that on the blood collecting sample area on the kit, there is HIV virus antigen, which will react with the HIV antibody in finger blood (if exist) to further process. Q1. Are the rapid test result taken on 90 days post exposure conclusive? Q2. If my bloody finger with wound (cut) touch the sample area (with antigen) of the test kit, will I be infected by the HIV virus? Q3.
Avatar n tn My 15 year old son just tested 109 on a home blood sugar test. He had not eaten for 3 hours.
Avatar f tn Best of luck PS the previous writer is right have her checked out in the ER with that low blood sugar...............
Avatar n tn the only consequence is that you may never know whether these kits are properly working or not..

640347 tn?1228533326 I am supposed to take my insulin shots 3 to 4 times a day depending on my blood sugar. Please, monitor your blood sugar and take care of yourself so your prediabetes does not get any worse. When yor blood sugar was 150 had you had anything to eat because anything you eat can effect your sugar.
Avatar m tn However due to a disability (ME/CFS) I’d rather not have a blood test, as they can be a bit of an ordeal. I found these home testing kits that only need a few drops of blood via finger prick, and don’t need to be sent to a pathology lab. https://www.buystdtestkits.com/pages/hiv-home-testing-kit-faq https://australiastdhometest.com/std-tests-bundles I was wondering if these tests are reliable, and if I should test for anything other than HIV, chlamydia and gonorrhea?
Avatar n tn In general the rapid test kits which are often used at home are almost as accurate as the lab based kits. the difference is that the home kits have slightly more false positives. they are just as sensitve as the regular, lab kits.
Avatar f tn Some studies show that manufacturers have falsely represented the accuracy of home test kits. One test kit cited in the warning was the EZ Medtest HIV Type I and Type II Home Test Kit, which was unable to consistently detect HIV antibodies in HIV-positive blood samples. Companies that have been cited for illegal production and distribution of HIV home test kits include: Akers Laboratories; Chembio Diagnostic Systems, Inc; Pan Probe Biotech, Inc; and Sovo Tec Diagnostics, Inc.
Avatar m tn Does anyone have information about Home access HIV test Kit. How reliable are these kits? What are the chances of false negative when the test taken after 3 months?
233552 tn?1228319699 I went to the doc today and he gave me my results....my blood sugar is 217. I knew that this would happen again but I wanted it to wait another month or two. My doc is going to put me on a diet after this weekend. I told him that you can't put a pregnant woman on a diet and he laughed right along with me. Then he said oh yes I can. Silly doctors. Baby's heartbeat still in the 160's and get U/S next month to find out what I'm having and I can't wait.
8653699 tn?1409720132 I had the glucose test today. Just don't eat or drink anything but water 6-8 hours before. Drink the sugary drink. They listened to my baby's heartbeat but no ultrasound. They drew 3 vials of blood and sent me off.
