Blood sugar spike from food

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar spike from food

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn This sudden drop in blood sugar levels is due to your pancreas releasing too much insulin to counteract the sudden high blood sugar levels that occurred from eating the aforementioned food types. Blood sugars suddenly plunge below normal because of the release of insulin from the over reactive pancreas. When your glucose levels go high, suddenly drop, then rise again and yo-yo's this way throughout the day it wreaks havoc on your cardio system.
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar f tn The safest way to lose weight while breastfeeding or any other time is by eating a healthy diet and getting a moderate amount of exercise. Sounds like a lemonade, maple syrup and cayenne pepper diet might be some kind of fad, that isn't good for you any time, let alone while breastfeeding - I suspect that cayenne pepper might come through the breast milk and affect the baby...
Avatar m tn Hmmm I've never heard of Cheerios spiking blood sugar; good thing I quite eating it a while back, huh?... LOL Have you considered that it might be the blueberries? They have a lot of sugar in them and even though it's "natural", it can spike blood sugar levels. I'm impressed with your 26 lb weight loss... If I could lose 26 lbs, I'd be about where I want/need to be. Have you thought (or talked to your doctor) about daily or weekly blood testing with a home meter?
Avatar m tn Cut down on the simple carbs (those which contain sugar and white flour), as those break down quickly and will spike your blood sugar. Concentrate on complex carbs (fiber), such as those found in vegetables and whole grains, as they take longer to break down and won't cause blood sugar spikes. I agree that if you're overweight, you'll need to lose, but that can be very difficult, if not nearly impossible, so you have to be very diligent.
Avatar n tn That would mean we are talking about 10 teaspoons of sugar if refined sugar was added to this juice. The manufacturer told me it is natural sugar we are talking about in the juice meaning the grapes are just squeezed. How does refined sugar differ from natural sugar and is 40 grams of natural sugar too much for someone? Is there a certain amount of grams of natural sugar a person should have everyday? How much is too much of either sugars? What is the daily allowance?
Avatar f tn Causing the insulin spike, because if you eat starvhy food and refined sugars ( white bread white flour and sugar) this will cause blood sugar rise, which means hello insulin spike which means ..
Avatar n tn I was just wondering if taking medication, which I truly do not want to do, would allow me to eat pasta, rice, potatoes, etc. which all seem to really spike my blood sugar. I usually have one slice of whole grain bread a day. Checked my BS this am before my breakfast - 14.1, only a handful of unsalted peanuts at 9pm last night. Breakfast - oatmeal with milk, an egg, half a Mandarin orange and coffee. Will check in a couple of hours and see what's what.
Avatar m tn ve recently been diagnosed with type II diabetes and still adjusting my medication and when I had a sugar crash yesterday at lunch I over did my sugar in take and had a sugar spike. It exhausted me, gave me first sweats then chills, nausea all afternoon. I've tried all night eating small portions and hope this morning I would feel better. But now that I'm up I'm still shaking and my blood sugar is 135. How long will I get like this and should I go back to my old dosage.
1689038 tn?1354739164 I'm confused (some would ask "what else is new?"....... LOL)....... How long ago did you have these tests? When you had the first test, you weighed 240 lbs and the test came back at 127? When you had the next test, you weighed 215 lbs? You didn't get results of that test? I'm not sure why you think you had a "sugar spike"....... 127 on a non fasting blood glucose does not mean you are diabetic. Do you keep track of your fasting blood sugars?
Avatar m tn Your target blood sugar level at all times should be less than 140 (damage has been shown to occur when blood sugar levels are 140 and higher). What medications have you been given? You need to ask your dr to refer you to a dietician also, as we can only offer general advice here. To control blood sugar you will need to control the types and amounts of carbohydrate eaten. Definitely you will need to avoid sugar and sugary and very starchy foods.
Avatar f tn Really have to pay attention to carbs. You still need your carbs but too much carbs will spike your blood sugar.
Avatar n tn My sister uses raw honey, but that too will spike your blood glucose levels. I'd try to find a coffee that you enjoy without having to add sugar if you can't get around the aftertaste of Stevia.
Avatar m tn If you have an infection or virus, that too can influence your blood sugar levels. Steriod medications can also influence your sugar readings. It may be useful for you to keep a food diary. Do bear in mind portion sizes - you can find information on the web regarding portion sizes of different foods. Do remember that all food is broken down by the body into energy. All refined carbohydrate foods (bread, cakes, biscuits, lemonades) will spike up your sugar levels very quickly.
Avatar n tn The other day when I left the gym my blood sugar was normal but when I got home it had doubled (from 7 to 14) and I was burning ketones. Any ideas? It only happens once in a while! What is the recommeded way to treat this? I find giving an insulin bolus and eating something helps but would like to avoid the whole situation from happening!
18655974 tn?1467287844 ( rather than eating entire pastry in one shot ? Thus we spread the sugar spike making it smaller in height but wider. b) Eat the Pastry (or preferably smaller chunks of it) along with other non-sweet foods , thus diluting the sweet and giving smaller ( i.e. flatter but wider) sugar spike ? This is my personal opinion. I am not a medical person. Any comments ?
1058898 tn?1275675151 I have not been told if i have diabetes but my Dr. told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. I notice my blood sugar at night between 2-3 am are over 120 and my fasting blood sugar in the morning is over 100. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137.
Avatar f tn I agree that artificial sweeteners don't make you fat, directly, but they can cause you to crave more sweets. Best to use Stevia for sweetening. Stevia comes from the sweet leaf plant and is actually sweeter than sugar, but it won't spike blood sugar levels, like sugar does and it has no calories. Many grocery stores are now carrying Stevia, usually, in the sugar aisle.
Avatar f tn GI = Glycemic Index. A low GI diet is one in which the things you eat will not spike blood sugar levels, but will work to help stabilize them. For instance, eating a piece of candy will spike your blood sugar rather quickly, whereas eating a carrot will not, because of the lower sugar/carb content. Regular pasta will spike your blood sugar more quickly than whole gain pasta because it takes longer to digest the whole grain, so it doesn't go straight to the blood.
Avatar f tn A low carbohydrate diet would probably help you manage your blood sugar. You can also use your meter to see which foods spike your blood sugar and which don't. Then avoid the foods that spike you. Generally people find that grains and processed foods, aside from sweets spike sugars. Somepeople are ok with fruit others are not. This is called eating to your meter.... Hope this h elps.
Avatar f tn 3. I am so confused. How could my blood sugar spike when I was really watching what I ate, hardly any carbs at all. I do not think I have been taking in 800 calories a day. Could I have put my body in shock from such a restrictive diet? Up to my 2nd blood test I did not eat any meat, had oatmeal for breakfast - a can of sardines at 11:00 am (or low fat cottage cheese & an avacado) and 2 pieces of fish for a late lunch, and soup at night with a salad.
Avatar n tn s endocronologist said that sometimes adrenaline can make your blood sugar rise. Maybe you could do some research on adrenaline and blood sugars rising. I had never heard of this before, but it makes sense. I am thinking that being a firefighter would take alot of adrenaline and would be stressful too. Stress makes my blood sugars rise very high too.
Avatar f tn I definitely think his blood sugar is too high going from the sounds of your comments. Make sure you take his blood sugar before he eats to get an accurate reading, always use an alcohol wipe to clean the area before testing as any food or substance on the testing could cause a higher reading if not clean, and test before meals and just before bed would be my opinion.
Avatar n tn I have since learned that cortisol controls your blood sugar levels. when I originally went on hydrocortisone, my fasting blood sugar jumped up to 113--which is too high, but it eventually has evened out to be normal over time--plus, the A1c test, that tests your average blood sugar levels over a 3 month period, was normal. When my blood sugar would drop, I would get extremely hungry and would want to just keep eating until the feeling went away.
