Blood sugar readings what is low

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar readings what is low

Avatar n tn Now that I'm eating low carb, I'm trying to understand why 2 hours after meals my blood sugar is typically between 70 and 90 but nearly every morning after fasting all night it's typically 102-115. I've read about the dawn phenomenon and wonder if this is the cause. Does anyone know how to help control the dawn phenomenon?
Avatar f tn m. reading has been 174. seems like no matter how few carbs i eat the readings are still high. what is going on with me.
1080243 tn?1262978963 You'll first experience signs and symptoms of high blood sugar or low blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Most people do not consider blood sugar to be low and in need of treatment unless it is under 70 or even under 60. However, if your blood sugar has been high for awhile than numbers that are not technically hypos can feel like they are. If you have diarrhea since last Thursday and not able to eat (regardless of your need to lose weight) you should check with your doctor as you can become dehydrated.
Avatar n tn Numerous people have told me it is either low blood sugar or low potassium and I am beginning to think they have a point. If after all, I did not have anything to eat for about seven hours and only had a sandwich for breakfast, it seems plausible. I do see how this can also be very serious however, but I am probably going to see a doctor soon. I just had a check up about a week ago or two and they did not find anything wrong. Thanks for your response though.
Avatar n tn I've been off the Paxil for a month now and the flushing/sweating has totally stopped(2-3 weeks ago) and my fasting blood sugar readings have dropped to between 110-101. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking that the Paxil was somehow affecting my readings and when I was good then my sugar dropped too low, hence the flushing/sweating. Anyway, thank you for any input...
Avatar f tn "I get symptoms of my sugar dropping, but when I check my sugar, most of the time it is fine." What symptoms? Its hard to say since you didn't mention when you were taking theses readings or what you diet has been. What are you readings when you feel crummy and after "When I eat something, I feel better within 20 minutes." Knowing what these are will assist us better in answering your question.
1058898 tn?1275678751 If not and you keep seeing highs as well as lows, then it is time to see a different doctor or an endocrinologist who is more skilled with blood sugar issues than regular doctor. (and who knows that anything above 140 is a problem, not above 190!
Avatar n tn I guess it boils down to the fact that I'm worried my liver or pancreas might not be up to par due to my youthful partying. All other lab work is great. Blood Pressure 110/65. Iron levels are good. We suspect my dad has Hemochromatosis. In your opinion can I prevent Type 2 by my healthy lifestyle? Or at least delay it for many years? Also my HDL seems to be going up since I stopped high carbs and trans fats. Could it be lower because of genetics. My aunts is only 36. My moms is 41.
Avatar n tn These new numbers that some person came up with has not lived with this, to think that it is possible to stay below 80 for any period of time without risking a low blood sugar at sometime during a 24 hour period, is a big mistake .
446335 tn?1223951956 It is to my understanding that every 7 grams of sugar labeled on a package is equal to one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar. So much of what we eat contains sugar. Being able to find a product low in sugar isn't easy for its time consuming to read each and every label for its sugar content. Its your body and your health. How much time you want to put into it to live longer is your call.
1080243 tn?1262978963 High blood sugar, if this is what your husband has, ARE a sign of diabetes. They are usually not a sign of anything else (unless someone is sick or on steroids, in which case levels can be temporarily high). Initially they can be the only obvious sign, which is why it is so important that people have diabetes screening at their annual checkups. Your husband should be looking into this with his doctor further and taking appropriate steps to manage it.
Avatar m tn In the last two days I woke up each morning with readings of 100. Within an hour, (no food or humalog intake) blood sugar dropped to 40. I ate (taking no insulin) and readings went up to about 80, but kept dropping to 60. I am doing nothing differently than I usually do. What is going on?
Avatar m tn 2008 - fasting blood sugar 5.8 ( previous guideline was 4-6) 2009- fasting blood sugar 5.4 (HbA1c 5.9) 2010- fasting blood sugar 5.2(HbA1c 5.8) 2011- fasing blood sugar 5.2(HbA1c 5.7) 2012- fasting blood sugar 5.9(HbA1c 5.5) now normal guidelines are 3.6-5.5 i was surprised to see my fasting blood sugar level of 5.9 as I excercise regular, I don't smoke and I am non drinker, vegetarian and not overweight at all.
Avatar f tn No matter what I eat my blood sugar will remain under a hundred and then quickly drop back down to the 56-72 range. This will last a couple of weeks before I return to the high levels again. I tell the doctor, but doctor doesn't look at my meter. He runs another a1c. This time it is 5.4. Normal he says. Go home. Can one of you explain to me what is happening? Many thanks in advance.
Avatar f tn there have even been instances where d range has been as low as 40 with no other side effects whatsoever. have heard that when blood sugar drops so low there should be other symptoms ranging from shivering to loss of consciousness but he's experienced none of these. dad used to take 18 milli insulin shots every mornin & evenin combined with glucovance tablets (500 mg per 5 mg). with the onset of the fluctuations he's been trying to reduce his dose of insulin to 15 or even 12.
325405 tn?1262293778 I also know that gestational diabetes is more strict with blood sugar levels than regular type II diabetes. Now that I have type II, what are the ranges to aim for for blood sugar levels for fasting and then for 2 hours after a meal? Right now, I'm testing about 100 to 110 in the morning and about 110 to 130 after meals. If I forget to take my metformin at night, my fasting level is usually around 120 to 130. But, with the medicine it is 100 to 110 fasting. Is this good?
Avatar m tn My question is i have type 2 diabetes, and in the morings before i eat my blood sugar reading is 140 to 162 my meds are metformin 1ooo mg in the morning, and 1ooo in the eaving with meals. i allso take dlipizide 5 mg in the morning before i eat and 5 mg in eaving before i last ac1 was 7.3 up from 6.9 my urin creatine was 116. and creatine was 1.
Avatar n tn After I gave him something really sweet to drink about 45 minutes later he was ready to eat. So do we have a problem with low sugar or high sugar? Is this something to worry about? He cant't talk so he can't tell us how he feels. My husband won't have insurance until the end of April. So were kinda stuck at the moment with being able to get anyone to help us. We were also told that since his seizures last that long we should really be worrying about brain deteriation. We don't know what to do.
Avatar n tn what is the number of blood sugar in the morning afternoon and evening between meals and how many hours after food, thanks
Avatar n tn Lowering them will do more to prevent complications than anything else. 150 is not a low blood sugar for anyone, it's on the high side of normal. The symptoms you are feeling when your blood sugars get down to 150 may be related to your body adjusting to more normal blood sugars and away from the higher ones. Depending on how you are losing weight (diet and exercise versus some kind of drug or medication), it may be related to that, but it's hard to say without knowing the how.
Avatar n tn Many doctors have told me it is all in my head because my blood sugar readings on the glucose tolerance tests are in the normal range mostly, and I don't have diabetes (well, at least not yet knock wood.
1806721 tn?1510192923 My questipn, however, is about whether statin drugs will raise blood sugar, causing pre-diabetes or diabetes? My paternal grandma has type 1 and my maternal uncle has type 2 diabetes. In the past 6 months, besides rapid weight loss, I also experienced fatigue, weakness, cold feet, dizziness, sudden drop of blood pressure, increased thirst and trips to restroom, low grade fever on and off with left side abdominal pain.
Avatar n tn Humalog lasts 3 hours in me. What was your BG number when you felt "shaky" Could be a "false Hypo" you body is used to high BG numbers, when it gets a number that is normal your body thinks it is to low because it thinks normal is 9 so 4 feels low.
1154065 tn?1262188306 Are you normal weight or overweight? Do you have family history of diabetes? To manage blood sugar 'naturally' it is necessary to exercise frequently and combine aerobic and weight training (HIT may help), maintain 'normal' weight and eat a very low carb (moderate protein, high healthy fats) diet. If these are not working, then it will mean that your pancreas cannot put out enough insulin / insulin is not effective.
Avatar n tn What in the world would cause this 55-yr old woman to go from NORMAL (no family history of diabetes) sugar readings -- no higher than 111 in the past, with regular 6-month reads -- to present in the ER with a blood sugar level of 670? She is obese at 250 lbs., though active and non-sedentary. Blood pressure recently dramatically low if that adds to mystery (69/32). Patient being sent home on both long- and short-acting insulin, 20 units long and 8 units x3/day.
Avatar n tn Because mine tend to be stronger when my sugar is low but last fairly steadily throughout the days. Or if something else could be causing all of these other symptoms as well as my sugar to drop?
