Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar readings accuracy

blood-sugar

Avatar m tn Check if it can raise your blood sugar levels. Some high blood pressure medicine can raise the sugar levels. Know your body. It is the inly one you will have.
Avatar f tn That would be what would tell you how concerned you should be with your blood sugar number. What the doctor is watching whether you need some form of insulin to keep your sugar to a acceptable level.
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.

Avatar m tn Is it safe to assume that if my blood pressure readings sitting at my desk are the same as my blood pressure readings lying down are either the same or close enough, then that's probably the right number?
Avatar m tn I've read that 40% of users get inaccurate readings because every BPM manufacturer employes their own algorithm. So I am confused: do I always need to go to a clinic to get my BP measured?
1680047 tn?1468911829 With all due respect, I believe your first post states higher than normal blood sugar readings. I have been a diabetic for 18 years and my doctor would not want to see values this high. 140-180 two hours after eating would be too high. Your stated values of fasting blood sugar readings are high, according to my doctor.
1080243 tn?1262975363 If oral medication can't control your husband's blood sugar, then he may need to be on insulin. It is very important to control blood sugar to prevent complications.
Avatar n tn My sister in law takes her blood sugar reading with a One Touch Ultra Smart tester. She gets a reading of 440. Sometimes the numbers are even higher. How can this be so high without major problems? My husband took his reading and got 86. She is a believer of herbals and supplements. Could one of these make a false reading? We have tried to get her to go to a Doctor, but she won't.
1618806 tn?1304734477 Is it normal for blood pressure to vary this much between which arm I take the reading from???????
Avatar m tn The difference beween 102, 99, 95 and 93 is so small (and within meter accuracy), that we can consider your blood sugar is essentially stable, regardless of what you eat. Your fasting numbers are probably very slightly higher than ideal, which is most likely in the low - mid 80s, but does not raise any alarms at this point.
Avatar m tn Are you concerned about the upward trend in your readings? If so, assuming that you did the testing with a "home" blood glucose meter, and that you tested at the same time each day, your readings are well within the accuracy range of the meter.
Avatar n tn I just found out that I'm pregnant, and my blood sugar is literally all over the place. One hour it will be 140, and the next hour it will be 240. I have another week until my endocrinologist appointment, and I am VERY NERVOUS. PLEASE HELP!? What can I do to keep it down until my Dr appointments? I'm limiting my carbs, and excercising. What else can i do?
Avatar m tn male, fit and in good shape, however I frequently seem to get high systolic blood pressure readings when I test it at a doctors (140-150). I felt a bit nervous in this situation, so I bought a home blood pressure monitor to check it in a comfortable atmosphere. When I sit down and read a book for 5 minutes before I test it, happily I get normal BP readings, such as 120-125 / 80.
Avatar f tn My blood sugar is 78, feeling cold and jittery and wondering if that is too high of a number to be causing it. Since last Thursday I have been unable to eat much, and what I do eat has been immediately removed (diarrhea). I was diabetic in my last pregnancy and still needing to lose weight so I have been checking my sugars just to see if maybe that is why I feeling so low right now. Thanks for the help.
Avatar n tn First of all, I understand your concern since you seem to know and be related to people with diabetes and your symptoms do sound suspicious. From your blood sugar readings, it doesn't sound like you have diabetes, even though I am not a doctor and can't even begin to provide a diagnosis. Could it be possible that you may have had a urinary tract infection that caused you to urinate and perhaps sleep a little more than usual?
4730644 tn?1358469456 Does anyone know if the neuropathy pain will get worse during spikes in blood sugar readings then slightly improve when blood sugar is back in range? I am trying to figure out if that is causing my pain to worsen at times. I have taken my readings and I am thinking that may be the case but wondering if others can confirm it. Thanks.
325405 tn?1262290178 My Metformin increased to 1000mg one month later and then in December my insulin was tested again it was finally normal. My morning blood sugar readings are now between 95 and 105 but if I don't take the Metformin they go up to 115 to 120. I don't test alot during the day but on those times I have after a meal I'm usually in the 120's. What was your diagnosis of Type 2 based on? Did you have the 2 or 3 hours glucose test? Sounds like your doing great managing your numbers!
Avatar m tn I have been told by my doctor my blood pressure is too high and he has put me on Amlodipine tablets.I have just bought a Blood Pressure Monitor but when I use it all readings are different for example these are the six readings I have just taken.160/83,149/81,144/76,138/76,138/73 and 131/76 they were taken in that order.
Avatar m tn I am concerned about the accuracy of typical blood pressure monitors that run $50-$100 at any drug store. I have one and I'm sure I"m taking my pressure correctly but sometimes it gives me weird readings, for example 77/41... and 1 minute later 118/74 (which is in line with my normal)... Then I'll get 111/51, etc. I would actually be willing to spend several hundred dollars if I could be assured of a professional accuracy but I'm not sure where to look.
