Blood sugar readings a1c

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar readings a1c

blood-sugar

Avatar f tn That would be what would tell you how concerned you should be with your blood sugar number. What the doctor is watching whether you need some form of insulin to keep your sugar to a acceptable level.
Avatar n tn Found it: 6.2 A1C is an average blood sugar of 131. Your typical blood sugars sound a bit higher than that, so I'm wondering if they have gone up recently and that A1C is older. Again, A1Cs are just an average and lows could skew it. Your daily numbers tell the story and if those are consistent then you want them lower. Doctors, unfortunately, have higher goals because the ADA is behind on what blood sugars should be and that is their guidelines.
Avatar m tn Which is more important to follow ,early morning daily readings or A1C . Which one would a doctor care about more???
212161 tn?1599427282 so if your sugar has been high, or alittle high, then the readings wont come back low. my a1c was 7.7 which is pretty high. you want your a1c to be between 5 and 6. diabeties runs in my family. I found out about it when i went to the hospital for my asthma, and they tested my sugar and it was in the 500. which, is very scarily high. anyway... so hope that helps.
Avatar m tn Now I am monitoring my blood sugar using glucometer getting normal readings. Occassionaly when i am tense and under stress getting readings which are above 140. Will keep you posted.
Avatar n tn m confused! With these blood sugar numbers, how can I be considered diabetic? Can an A1C test be wrong?
Avatar m tn Actually, if you want to have 'excellent' blood sugar control that is as close to normal as possibel 142 is not acceptable. Considering that people without diabetes will rarely have readings higher than 100 ever. To avoid complications the best plan is to keep blood sugars as close to truely normal as possible. This will prevent complications. Your 142 is a wakeup call.
Avatar n tn ), and high blood pressure. He is not overweight (105 lbs). He has 1 or 2 high blood sugar readings a month. Nothing over 300. His Dr. is having a difficult time with this. She keeps sending him for blood tests, and has not been able to tell me what might be going on. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn If my 90 day average of blood sugar readings is 99, why is my estimated A1C 5.1? Why isn't it 4.9?
212161 tn?1599427282 Perhaps medical science will soon develop a better test than the A1c. The A1c in itself is not bullet proof. Blood glucose levels in the preceding 30 days contribute substantially more to the level of A1C than do blood glucose levels 90 to 120 days earlier.
Avatar f tn I've just begun checking my blood sugar levels the last few days because I have other health issues going on and thought I'd better check that too...for the first time in my life, my blood sugar was 167....in the evening before dinner. Since then, the lowest it's been is 97. Fasting this am was 127 and this afternoon about 45min after eating some cheese it was 202!!! I have NEVER had an elevation, by BS has always been normal or slightly low. This has me scared.
Avatar f tn At any rate, the strange thing (or strange to me) is that my highest sugar numbers actually occurred BEFORE I was put on the steroids rather than after being on them. I know they can and do affect your blood sugar (unfortunatley have had to be on them many times in my life so I'm pretty familiar with their side effects) - but this time it seemed my blood sugars actually became somewhat more regulated while I was on the meds.
Avatar n tn But ever since taking the Metformin I get hypo all the time on my readings and my avg blood sugar is normally 70-120. On my personal app logs, my A1C estimate is 5.4-5.8 but when I A1C test in the docs office it's 6.0-6.3. After some research, I see that iron deficient anemia can cause high A1Cs and I'm wondering if my doc may have jumped the gun with a type 2 diagnosis. I feel like maybe I was more pre-diabetic? Anyone have any experience with this?
539156 tn?1281818356 All doctors should run what is called A1C testing, to test your overall blood sugar readings over the past 3 months. This can actually be determined through this testing. (Remarkable, huh?) It's VERY possible that you DO indeed have some diabetic neuropathy caused from years of having higher than normal blood sugar readings. Its a sneaky disease, just like high blood pressure. Silent robbers of life, if not treated properly.
Avatar f tn pre-diabetes is 100-125 and diabetes is 126 and over. Normal A1C (a test for average blood sugar over a couple month period) is under 5.7. 5.7-6.5 are pre-diabetes and 6.5 and over is diabetes. I would never accept an answer as vague as "it's normal" or "don't worry", especially if you are concerned about it. Always ask for the number.
Avatar m tn Normally, glucose attaches to blood cells over the life of a blood cells. Like a tick on a dog. When the A1C test is taken there are gobs of glucose on these cells. The result is a high A1C result. When you are on treatment the ribavirin kills the blood cells at an early age so that they don't mature and accumulate gobs of glucose. As a result A1C test results may be artifically better during treatment even though you are eating everthing bad in sight.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I have not been told if i have diabetes but my Dr. told me to watch my blood sugar because im having symptoms of hypo. I notice my blood sugar at night between 2-3 am are over 120 and my fasting blood sugar in the morning is over 100. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137.
Avatar n tn Exercise helps people with diabetes keep their blood sugar in good control and within a normal range. Glucose is used while exercising, which would lower the blood sugar level, not raise it. If you are predisposed to developing type 1 diabetes, no amount of exercise will change this. On the other hand, type 2 diabetes is linked with obesity, and exercise would definitely help with the prevention of that type.
