Blood sugar levels ketoacidosis

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar levels ketoacidosis

blood-sugar

Avatar n tn This is the presence of high levels of keytones simultaneous with high blood sugar levels. It reflects that the body is burning its own fat (regardless of how many carbs are eaten) because insulin is not able to work. This can be life threatening. A low carb diet can be very effective in controlling blood sugars. The more extreme carb restriction is recommended by Dr. Richard Bernstein (Diabetes Solutions) of 35 g of carbs per day.
Avatar f tn I am 32 and alcoholic of about 9 yrs. But started getting cold chills only once or twice a month and sweating weather I have drank anything or not. When I don't eat its worse but my blood sugar seems to always be kind of in range but fluctuates a lot. I did have to go to the Er before because I hadn't drank in days and a breathalyzer said differently so they gave me a blood test nothing in my system...
Avatar m tn His doctor says that his blood sugars are well controlled, and he even wakes with low blood sugar (2 m.mol), and has to get up and eat to correct this. He takes his own blood sugars every day as well as 6 monthly testing by the diabetic nurse, but I am worried about possible Ketoacidosis.
Avatar f tn You really should go to the hospital. It sounds like your blood sugar is way out of control and is no longer manageable by home methods. (e.g. insulin injection, medications) You can develop ketoacidosis from prolonged high blood sugar, which will have some of the symptoms you describe, but not all. Really, this is life threatening, you need to see a doctor.
1388299 tn?1279740904 Ketones are chemicals that have a fruity smell and are excreted in the urine. They are produced when the body has to reduce the glucose level and insulin is not available in sufficient quantities to do so. The body has an "emergency" back-up which produces the tell-tale odor. You don't do anything to specifically "bring down ketones".
Avatar n tn my blood sugar reading is currently 560 I have type 2 diabetes when do I have to worry?
Avatar n tn Bottom line, high blood sugar causes systemic damage -- and the damage increases the longer we endure those high levels. When my blood sugar is out of control, i am often grumpy and quite impatient simply because I feel so lousy. You might find these websites useful -- it *is* so difficult to get gain control. Once we get there through, tho', it really can become easier to "stay there" if we gently nurture ourselves in this struggle. Good luck.
Avatar m tn Though it seemed to be a low sugar attack, she also had strong acetone breath that is supposed to indicate high blood sugar levels. After a harrowing several minutes, we gave her some milk and eat 2 strawberries (based on the assumption that this would only produce a mild boost to her sugar) and she recovered a bit. At the (really bad) public clinic where we then took her, they said it was a low blood sugar attack.
Avatar n tn Left untreated, diabetes causes blood sugar to go extremely high. Your blood sugar of 29 would be considered extremely low. One other thing worries me, fruits, sweets and juice do contain carbohydrates. They are what are called simple carbohydrates. In other words your body breaks them down into glucose very fast. I would talk to a doctor about this as soon as possible since this is having a negative impact on your life.
Avatar n tn Agitation / Irritation / Aggression / Confusion Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening complication in patients with untreated diabetes mellitus (chronic high blood sugar or hyperglycemia). Near complete deficiency of insulin and elevated levels of certain stress hormones combine to cause DKA.
Avatar n tn For example, this morning before I had eaten a bite, my blood sugar was 406. I checked my urine for ketones at that time and it showed moderate to high amounts of ketones in my urine. This afternoon after I ate, my blood sugar was 521 and I checked for ketones again. On the second check, it was negative to a trace. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this to happen? From going high to moderate amounts to none at all?
Avatar f tn She had 3 significant falls in the last 3 months and 3 within a 8hr time frame(all blood sugar related) She had been in Ketoacidosis twice in the last year. Her Blood glucose levels were in the high 20s. She ended up passing away this morning. It was so interesting watching her HR go from 70s to142 within hours and then back down. You are 100%, it’s amazing what the body can actually do. She lasted 56 hours with NPO and being completely unresponsive.
Avatar m tn Hello, please discuss with his dr. Such high blood sugar levels are extremely dangerous to his health. He could develop a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be fatal. His blood sugars need to be reduced with proper dose of insulin. However, please note that if his body is used to his blood sugar being so high it is important to reduce his sugars over a period of weeks. Ie. initially targetting to keep blood sugars below 300 at all times.
Avatar f tn s blood sugar is way into the danger zone, and if he is sustaining blood sugars that high he is in danger of going into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which is a medical emergency. However...having said that...it is normal for a person to be somewhat irritable, grouchy, short-tempered, etc. But I'm sorry to say your husband's behavior is over the line of what can be attributed to high blood sugar and indicate a problem that already exists and is exacerbated by the blood sugar.
Avatar m tn Since then she has been put on long lasting and fast acting insulin in massive doses but they do not keep her blood sugars down. She is constantly in ketoacidosis and has been admitted to AMU at least 6 times, only just escaping death each time. She is half the body weight she was a year ago and for a 45 year woman of 5feet tall she now weights just over 6 stone. The consultant has accused her of not taking her medication but I can account for the fact that she has .... religiously!!!
Avatar m tn Hi there! Often times an overpowering sweet smell can be attributed to Diabetes. I would definitely recommend that he see his doctor and get tested. The test for Diabetes needs to be done by a doctor. The testing done while giving blood in all likelihood may not pick up any variances in blood sugar. There's really no way to tell what you are dealing with without talking to a doctor, and it's definitely a good idea to be safe rather than sorry. I hope that you both get this figured out.
