Avatar m tn I have a cousin whose blood sugar levels often rise over 300s. This has been over a couple of years now. I am really concerned about him but unfortunately he doesn't seem to really care about himself and believes that the oral medications he's taking is enough. He shows no symptoms of diabetes at all. My questions are: 1. How come very high glucose levels cause no symptoms at all? (no frequent urination, thirst, blurred vision, etc) 2.
798555 tn?1292787551 Yes. You can also find what is thought to be the active ingredient, coumarin, but it's also a blood thinner, so one has to be careful with it. This isn't from personal experience, but from customers who used it when I managed health food stores. You have to take a fair amount, however, for it to have a significant effect. There are also other substances that help lower blood sugar, including American ginseng, holy basil, gymnesta sylvestre (spelling?), and others.
Avatar m tn For diabetics it can go either way. Treatment can cause the blood sugar to go up or down. But if the diabetes is not under good control before starting treatment for Hep C, it lowers your chances of success. Adverse events are also more common on diabetics. I have NEVER seen diabetes go away after treatment. I have seen the blood sugar improve but diabetes disappear? Never.
Avatar m tn Is caliory restrictions good for diabetics? And is fasting going to drop the blood glucose levels too low that diabetics can't sustain concentration and strength thought out the mornings? Intermittent fasting tends to last 12 to 16 hours usually done from 7pm 11am.
Avatar n tn First thing you need have on hand is a home glucose test meter. The only way you're going to know how the foods you consumed affected your glucose [blood sugar] levels is by testing, testing, and more testing. Times to test are; fasting - first thing in morning b4 having any food or colored liquids [plain water is OK]. This will tell you how much stored sugar your liver is dumping during sleep hours. Normal levels are 60/70 - 99 mg/dl or 3.33/3.88 - 5.
Avatar n tn Two days ago, after 10 days in intensive care he was moved to the regular pediatric floor however his ketones are still at 2000 and the doctors are puzzled why they keep going down then up for no apparent reason. His blood sugar levels vary (400 down to 150) based on what he eats and how much insulin he is given. Still working our the kinks in getting him stablized. Does anyone have any idea what else may be going on to cause all this?
996946 tn?1503249112 Maybe I should resubmit my question? Or at least rephrase it? Or post it on a different forum? I have been on coumadin for a-fib for 6 months and I am wondering if it has any effect on blood sugar levels?
Avatar f tn The hydrochlorothiazide in Dyazide can increase blood sugar levels in diabetics. Other risk factors for diabetes include advancing age, body weight and lack of exercise. As for your vitamin water, it should have the carb content listed. That's what you need to know in order to know if you need to take insulin when you drink it. If you cannot find a carb listing on the label, then call the company that makes it and find out what its carb content is. By law, all U.S.

Avatar n tn If we diabetics are not well-trained on how to exercise, strenuously, while maintaining our blood sugar in a target range, we will be more likely to see rises in blood sugar. Exercise is an important component of maintaining our good health -- keeping our vascular system as clear as possible and keeping our muscles strong. Most exercise regimens require that the person get clearance from their physician to begin it.
Avatar m tn Thanks for ur response Is it very high sugar or can control with with out medicines?
Avatar n tn Typically, the best diet for PCOS is the same one used for diabetics. That would be foods that are high in fiber, protein and fat, but low on the glycemic index - meaning they don't spike the blood sugar levels. This means you would best eliminate things like white bread, pasta and rice and replace them with the whole grain versions and brown rice. Center your meals round veggies, healthful fats, lean protein, nuts, seeds, dairy, eggs, etc.
Avatar f tn re not allergic to seafood products like shellfish which some fish oil contain. Fish oil does not raise blood sugar levels. If it does, I would suspect an allergy to seafood as the cause. This link is a study on 832 humans with results showing no adverse effects on blood sugar levels http://tinyurl.com/fish-oil-glucose-study And this pdf file care.diabetesjournals.org/content/21/4/494.full.pdf Personally, I have been taking fish oil for the past 10-12 years and have had zero adverse effects.
Avatar n tn It sounds as if you have a glucometer since you said you have checked his glucose levels. Do you know what is considered "normal" in glucose readings? Glucose levels for non-diabetics and for diabetic people go up and down all day long. Most doctors don't consider glucose levels to be too low unless they drop below 70, but a person can start to feel a little bit bad if in the low 70's, so this might explain why your son didn't feel like eating when his sugar was at 73.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
