Blood sugar levels during exercise

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar levels during exercise

Avatar m tn My daughter is 16 and is a very brittle diabetic. Every time she attempts to do any exercise, her blood sugar sky rockets! She can just do sit ups and stretches and her sugar can go from 135 to 450 in a matter of minutes. She has to take insulin before and check her sugar before, during and after exercise. It isn't the same for every diabetic, but if her blood sugar doesn't do as my daughters does, then it is the best thing for a diabetic.
Avatar m tn If I monitor my blood sugar levels closely, my levels actually go up during and after exercise. I thought they were supposed to go down. Why is this happening?
Avatar m tn m assuming fasting blood sugar] indicates prediabetes. This can be corrected with proper diabetes nutrition, maintaining proper weight and daily physical exercise. Does "pp" stand for postprandial? Without knowing when, or how the 256 mg/dl test results came about your wife should ask the next doctor, preferably an Endocrinologist - a diabetes specialist - for 1. A1c test [HgBA1c, HbA1c] - gives a more reasonable view of the glucose [blood sugar] over the past 3 months.
Avatar f tn I am also having trouble with low blood sugar. My blood sugar goes from 44 to 255. I know normal is 80-120 . At the Diabetes clinic they said if mine dropped from 50-70 to take gluclose tabs, 8, but my body is reacting like a normal one. I take 4 at 44 which is life threatening low. I also notice that lately it's dropping after I eat which I don't understand. This discussion is related to Blood sugar drops after eating.
Avatar n tn Testing anytime is not a good idea as it fails to provide an accurate insight on your blood sugar levels. Also, be certain to sterilized your test site prior to using a lancet to avoid contamination, or you will end up with inaccurate results. Lastly, I suggest you see your doctor for an A1c [HbA1c, HgbA1c, HA1c] test. The A1c measures your blood sugars over the past 2-3 months and provides a better idea if you are a diabetes candidate or not.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar m tn So the temporary high will be well offset by the long term effect of that exercise. However, in a non-diabetic person blood sugar is very finely controlled and blood sugar will not vary much at all. A completely normal non-diabetic person (including athletes) will have blood sugars in the range of 70 - 120 all the time, with most numbers being at the lower end of this range (80-100). A completely normal a1c will be < 5.0 (about 4.3 - 4.6 is apparently typical).
1773108 tn?1314158067 Good Morning, I have a question about high blood sugar levels that don't seem to stabilize. My boyfriend has been struggling for years with high blood sugar. He told me this morning that his level was at 480+!!!! He says he doesn't feel any different whether it's high or low. The lowest it's been (to my knowledge) is still in the high range of 200+.
Avatar n tn s endocronologist said that sometimes adrenaline can make your blood sugar rise. Maybe you could do some research on adrenaline and blood sugars rising. I had never heard of this before, but it makes sense. I am thinking that being a firefighter would take alot of adrenaline and would be stressful too. Stress makes my blood sugars rise very high too.
Avatar f tn So because I threw up during the 3hr glucose test, I have to check my blood sugar levels at home for a week. So just curious what is the normal range? I have to check it when I wake up and 1-2 hrs after every meal.
Avatar n tn Trial and error over time will help you determine what insulin or food changes your body will need for safe blood sugar levels during exercise. Never go walking with low blood sugars, you could feel unsteady or have trouble walking causing a fall.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar f tn It is also possible to have elevated blood sugar if you fast for a longer than usual period. It is good that your subsequent tests were ok. Anyway, use this as your motivation to stay healthy. Minimize sugar and processed foods, exercise. A regular check of blood sugars every once in a while (and certainly every 6 months) is a good practice so you can monitor yourself over time.
Avatar f tn You should contact your doctor and ask him/her to order appropriate blood tests. Then, IF, your overnight fasting blood sugar level is above normal your doctor will determine if you are diabetic and what medicines, diet, and exercise you should follow to control your illness.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn I commend you for exercising as exercise is very important with helping to lower blood sugar and hypertension levels. But, do you break sweat 10 minutes into your workout? If not pick up the pace. And, eat before working out not after. Working out on an empty stomach makes you crave food after.

Avatar n tn By eating at night you may be able to help your morning blood sugar be a bit lower. When you have extended fasting your liver can put out glucose. By eating a small snack you may be able to prevent your liver doing this. hope this helps. Please come back and let us know how you're going. Often diabetes in preganncy will get worse as the pregnancy progresses (insulin resistance increases as the pregnancy progresses and the placenta grows).
Avatar m tn Your symptoms are typical of hypoglycemia, as suggested by margypops. You require either a fasting and glucose tolerancfe test or what is called an insulin clamp protocol. In the fast test you are instructed not to eat for a certain number of hours, your blood glucose level is measured, you drink a specific amount of glucose, and then, for a number of hours at specific intervals your glucose levels are measured.
