Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar in children

blood-sugar

Avatar f tn Normal blood sugar for a child is typically in the range of 70-100, with fasting numbers in the 70s - 80s (lower than for adults). After eating it may increase, but should should not go higher than about 120. Please have this looked at by a dr if you are concerned. A 3 year old shouldn't be tired!
Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
Avatar n tn his vomiting, we think, was contributed to a stomach virus he had at the time. We took him to the ER due to dehydration -they did a blood chemistry and his blood sugar was 399-they immediately admitted him to ICU and he was put on IV insulin. He's been a diabetic now for 3 years-he's now 9. He's has handled it amazingly well! In my opinion, I would definetly have the pediatrician run some further test on him to see if this could be the factor with your child.
1680047 tn?1468911829 The values mentioned in the first response are 'upper cut off limits' and hence normal values correspond to 'less than' these values. Lower values upto 3.3-3.9 mmol/ 60-70 mg/dl would not warrant an evaluation. Though technically 'fasting blood sugar levels' may be 'slightly' lower in children, using these minor differences have not been found to be of value in establishing a diagnostic criteria for DM.
Avatar n tn If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume later(after about a minute). The benefits will be noticed in weeks as the sugar level is checked daily.Over the long term the diabetes will be in full control and the medicine(if any) can be reduced in consultation with the doctor. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically.
Avatar n tn stress could be another. There are variety of medications available for children with migraines. The specialist to work with in this area would be a pediatric neurologist with an interest in headache. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.
Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar n tn During pregnancy, it is dangerous to have high blood sugar. Using insulin is safe....remember that your own pancreas produces insulin.
Avatar n tn Also, asthma---- which one does not have to have typical symptoms . . . but he could be low on oxygenated blood. Panic and anxiety can also cause these things. Is it only when he exerts himself or at resting as well?? Anyway, a doctor is absolutely the BEST place to get your information and am glad you have an appointment soon. Sounds quite necessary and hope you get good news and this is fixable easily.
Avatar f tn Have the Doctors checked your daughters blood levels to make sure they are where they should be ,like her Liver and her thyroid and sugar and Kidney ?They should be checking her blood levels every 6months or at least once a year. If they have not done a EEG yet tell them you want one done to make sure her brain is working Normal. And also to make sure all the drugs have not caused any damage. And don't let them tell you there is no need for them .
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
Avatar f tn s blood sugar is way into the danger zone, and if he is sustaining blood sugars that high he is in danger of going into DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) which is a medical emergency. However...having said that...it is normal for a person to be somewhat irritable, grouchy, short-tempered, etc. But I'm sorry to say your husband's behavior is over the line of what can be attributed to high blood sugar and indicate a problem that already exists and is exacerbated by the blood sugar.

Avatar f tn d probably get it checked in another 6 months to see where you are at. This article may help you understand how blood sugar can fluctuate and when it is normal. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar f tn Hypoglycemia/ low blood sugar would be considered blood sugar levels less than about 70. Your result of 103 is normal, not hypoglycemia. It is likely that your symptoms may be from other causes. Sometimes headaches can be a sign of not drinking enough - so a glass of water and a few minutes to relax / be quiet - may help a lot. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I notice my blood sugar at night between 2-3 am are over 120 and my fasting blood sugar in the morning is over 100. When i get the fealing of low it is around 80 and it will keep dropping. the last time it went to 67 and i had to eat some thing i couldnt wait. i had a cup of oj and checked in 15 min and it went to 137. I have also notice that i spike about 1 hour after eating and come down around 2 hours after which is mostly in the 130. and i notice if i drink a can of pop.
Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.
Avatar f tn I had blood drawn today for A1c, should get the results in a couple of days. I am wondering if these numbers are normal, or do I have a problem?
Avatar f tn I have been researching it alot and I have read that blood and sugar in your urine could be a sign of diabetes. Maybe you can ask your Dr. to test you for that. Try to stay calm. I know its hard and am having a hard time myself but stress makes all things worse. Keep me posted.
