Avatar n tn All restaurants put oil in their foods so try to keep it to a minimum. If he did all these things and was willing to do it you would definitely see a change in his bp and weight and he could get off the meds eventually. There are some seminars on this. If you go to drmcdougall.com he has some you can go to but also on line information.
Avatar f tn Considering your blood sugars are now so high, you are going to need to take a few weeks to get your sugars down. Your body is used to running high and so you are going to feel really bad (low) even when you are at normal sugars. The good news is that this will pass and you will feel better. For now I would suggest aiming to keep your fasting somewhere around 100 (if you can) but no reading over 180. Then after a couple of weeks you can set a new target.
Avatar m tn Best thing a person can do when told they are Diabetic is to contact the local Hospital or Health Department and get signed up for their Diabetes Education class. I learned So much from those classes and they gave me the books to bring home with me. I also read a lot about it online too http://www.diabetes.com/ http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/intro/index.htm http://www.diabetes.org/type-2-diabetes.jsp http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar n tn I have another week until my endocrinologist appointment, and I am VERY NERVOUS. PLEASE HELP!? What can I do to keep it down until my Dr appointments? I'm limiting my carbs, and excercising. What else can i do?

Avatar f tn t sound like you have a very good doctor. Four hundred is WAY too high (200 is too high!). What did your doctor give you for target range? What changes did he ask you to make in diet and exercise and weight? Did you get referred to a diabetic educator? If you have done these things and are seeing numbers like that your diabetes is very out of control and you do need meds.
Avatar f tn All these things greatly influence blood sugar. If you have been unable to get your blood sugar stable at all, these are things you need to work on. I hope your husband gets better soon.
Avatar n tn After I gave him something really sweet to drink about 45 minutes later he was ready to eat. So do we have a problem with low sugar or high sugar? Is this something to worry about? He cant't talk so he can't tell us how he feels. My husband won't have insurance until the end of April. So were kinda stuck at the moment with being able to get anyone to help us. We were also told that since his seizures last that long we should really be worrying about brain deteriation.
Avatar f tn Under 90 is normal so you are high. What "diet" did he say to use, probably low fat. Unfortunately its not fat that raises BG but carbohydrates that raise BG (blood sugar). All carbs raise BG, reduce carbs have lower BG.
Avatar n tn s endocronologist said that sometimes adrenaline can make your blood sugar rise. Maybe you could do some research on adrenaline and blood sugars rising. I had never heard of this before, but it makes sense. I am thinking that being a firefighter would take alot of adrenaline and would be stressful too. Stress makes my blood sugars rise very high too.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.

Avatar f tn Hi, although it may seem counterintuitive, the best way to prevent low blood sugar is to eat less carbs, which cause swings in blood sugars, and to eat plenty of healthy fats, protein and only a little carbs coming from non-refined sources.
446335 tn?1223948356 Is this a situation where the doctor goes straight to meds or do you first try to get the blood sugar level down with a low-carb diet? Just curious what's ahead of me. Obviously avoiding medicine is my goal. Is that realistic? TIA for any info you can provide.
1058898 tn?1275675151 Your doctor is uninformed and irresponsible to be allowing your blood sugar to go so high without advising you to do anything. As Zoelula said, it is your health. It is up to you. Get yourself educated and get it under control. Else there will be consequences. This is the plain and ugly, but necessary truth!
Avatar f tn Call your primary care and make an appointment- be sure to let them know that your blood sugars have been uncharacteristically high. You need to be evaluated. Good luck.

Avatar m tn Have they checked you for a pancreatic tumor which causes low blood sugar? Blood sugar that repeatedly rises and falls happens in a pre-diabetic person who is insulin resistant. You produce enough insulin but your cells aren't absorbing it. Hopefully, someone more knowlegable than myself can enlighten both of us on this.
