Blood sugar fasting hypoglycemia

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar fasting hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn Without proper testing results one assumption is you experienced reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia [or alimentary hypoglycemia] is low glucose [blood sugar] that occurs after a meal — usually one to three hours after eating. Try the following: • Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day, no more than three hours apart. • Eat a well-balanced diet including lean and nonmeat sources of protein and high-fiber foods including whole grains, fruit and vegetables.
Avatar n tn Today about 20 minutes after my lunch I started sweating, feeling weak, heart racing, etc. I checked my blood sugar and it was 71 after eating a chicken salad, salad. I checked it before eating and it was 77 so why would it go down after eating a salad and a few wheat crackers? 71 is normal but again I felt horrible, weak, shaky, anxiety, etc. Could this be something other than Hypoglycemia? Before I had lunch I ran 2.5 miles on the treatmill and felt fine so this is beginning to puzzle me.
Avatar n tn Hello vprrchk ~ we're glad you found us and so happy that you find our site helpful to you! The condition you are referring to is HYPOGLYCEMIA which means 'low blood sugar.' Every person's sensitivity level is different and therefore where one person may remain conscious at a level of 50, another may encounter a seizure at that same level. I did type "hypoglycemia" into google and many, many links showed up, so try doing that for additional resources.
Avatar f tn Other non organic causes of seizure may be a febrile convulsion due to very high body temperature. He needs to be evaluated thoroughly for a complete blood sugar profile, fasting, post prandial and an hbA1C to check his glycemic control over the last 3 months. The neurologist should reexamine him for systemic manifestations of diabetes to check. Take care.
Avatar m tn Nausea, dizziness and headache could be caused by having too low blood sugar, which could be a result of fasting, particularly, if you have any type of blood sugar disorder, such as diabetes or hypoglycemia. Your belief will determine whether or not you must continue fasting.
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn Recently I have been suffering from anxiety attacks and light headedness. Done a fasting blood sugar test and it seems I have high blood sugar levels. Than this be the result of my anxiety attacks This discussion is related to Mysteriously high fasting blood glucose.
Avatar n tn My daughter ( 7 yrs old) had her blood sugar tested at a dr appointment yesterday. It was taken about 4 hours after eating. It came back at 133. The dr wants to do a fasting check on her. Are her levels high?
Avatar n tn In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn Then make sure you get an A1C test, not just a fasting blood sugar test. The A1C tests all your glucose for the last couple months, not just one moment.
1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
3923358 tn?1358552214 About 1/2 after i ate I started to feel sort of out of it and so I tested it and my blood sugar was 69, is that low. Also yesterday my fasting glucose was 131. Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn s Thyroiditis. All were normal, except elevated cortisol. Fasting sugar was 80 and fasting insulin was always 6-9. He diagnosed adrenal fatigue and reactive hypoglycemia due to poor diet. My problems improved with diet overhaul and life went on. A few years later, I suddenly began losing weight rapidly without cause. I got down to 110 pounds, and I am a very tall woman. My BMI was under 18.
Avatar f tn Two and a half months ago I went to my dr for a routine check up and she did a CBC and also checked my blood sugar. My fasting sugar was 103 the first time and 110 the second visit. My hbA1c was 5.8 She said I have "pre-diabetes" and sent me to a nutrionist. The nutritonist gave me a glucose meter so I could check my bs after meals and fasting. After two months of excercise and diet change I have lost 15lbs.
Avatar f tn For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.
Avatar n tn My son has complained (not often) of his legs feeling weak when his blood sugar is low. My sister has had episodes of low blood sugar where she could not get up and said she felt like her legs did not work. After consuming some sugar, it still can take sometime to feel better. (My sister gave up alcohol, but is a cigarette smoker who is trying to quit.) The weak feeling you are experiencing could definitely be due to hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn t have diabetes or pre-diabetes, but I do have blood glucose issues (fasting and non-fasting). I often get hypoglycemic when I don't eat enough sugar/sweets/candy. I know it sounds completely ridiculous, but it really happens! I've tried eating lots of carbs instead of sugar, but it didn't seem to help.
Avatar n tn Metformin is used to treat high blood sugar, and it can cause low blood sugar especially if not enough food was eaten. Yes unless I missed something I would say something is goofed. What was his blood sugar normally?
Avatar f tn In the (1) condition, the simple carbs will deliver a bolus of glucose right into your blood, creating a spike in blood sugar, and then your body will react by secreting insulin to bring it low.
Avatar m tn Hba1c of 6 will get you a diagnosis of prediabetes. However it is good that it does not seem to change over time. Stay vigilent about your health, be aware that carbs can contribute to higher blood sugar so a lower carb diet may be helpful in managing blood sugars.
Avatar n tn B/c it has been happening more and more often, I said something to my doctor. I had just had a yearly exam and my blood sugar (non-fasting) was 80 and no sugar in my urine. She said that was good and there was no need for further testing. My question is: does a fasting or glucose tolerance test need to be done to diagnose diabetes (or hypoglycemia), or is this non-fasting number sufficient to suggest there is nothing wrong? thanks.
Avatar f tn What allmymarbles is referring to is a "Glucose Tolerance Test" which determines how much your blood sugar is rising and dropping. Even the Keotone strips you buy OTC are very accurate in determining if you blood sugar is high or low. My husband has has Type II diabetes for 16 years and his blood sugar levels are checked with blood tests.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar m tn t feel that everything was right with my blood sugar so I bought a glucose monitor to do random blood sugar tests. In the morning my BS is never lower than approximately 85. About an hour after (7:30am) eating my bs ranges up to 139 and after two hours it is back into the high 80's to low 90's.
Avatar m tn Sounds like hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). It is the reverse of diabetes (hyperglycemia). Doctors unfortunately pay little attention to low blood sugar, their interest lying in diabetes. At least that is the problem I had. In the same manner they pay little attention to low blood pressure. The shakes are a warning. Make an appointment with your doctor. He should send you for a fasting blood sugar test. It lasts several hours (I think five), and is definitive.
Avatar n tn The symptoms you are feeling are all signs of low blood sugar. Have you been tested? If not you should get a fasting blood sugar or a hemoglobin A1C. Some people just need to eat more often and less big of a meal such as a protein snack and may not have true hypoglycemia. You should get it checked to be sure.
Avatar f tn t think it will show anything, all the symptoms could be explained through anxiety, and the last time I had blood taken my blood sugar was slightly low (at 62 with 70 being the lowest it should be) so I don't think it could be diabetes. Any information on any of this would be incredibly appreciated, and a little something to maybe ease my mind about the tests because I'm nervous about them. P.S.
