Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar fasting average

Avatar m tn a1c is the average, but it is also important to see the fasting numbers. Sometimes early in diabetes only the fasting numbers may be high, and paying attention to these may give a heads up on taking action. Ideally fasting is < 100 (and even better if it's in the 80s). Normal non-diabetic a1c is < 5.0, though you may not get diagnosed as diabetic until you are 5.7 or higher.
Avatar n tn I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105. Would you say this is out of the normal range. I had blood work done about a month ago when I had my annual physical and my sugar level came back at 109. My doctor didn't seem to alarmed.
Avatar n tn Do you have lows that make your blood sugar average out to 6.2? There is a forumula that shows what average blood sugars are for each A1C but I can't find it at the moment. I would try the other things I mention before adding another med.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER not long ago and I was told I had very high blood sugar, I had not eaten anything for more than 8 hours other than toast.
Avatar n tn Here is some more information on blood glucose ranges and blood sugar testing for you from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Be-Blood-Sugar-Savvy/1777 If you enter enough data over enough days, our app gives you an average A1C -- this is your 3 month average amount of glucose in your blood. It's likely a better measure than the daily averages from your meter, as Mindmaster points out. Here's a little more about the A1C: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn dear sir, my fasting blood sugar: 103.3mg/dl and HBAIC: 6.7% Sir this alright?
Avatar f tn HBA1C measures average blood sugar over the past 3 months. It can be a useful screening test and for monitoring diabetes progress / progression. However, it can also be misleading as highs and lows can average out to give something that looks normal, but actually isn't. Fasting and 2 h ours post eating are also useful and can guide diet and treatment on a day to day basis. If you are diabetic both fasting, post prandial and HBA1C are useful to be monitored.
Avatar m tn It provides an average of your blood sugar over the past 3 months. She should do that test now in addition to a fasting test as well.
Avatar m tn Hba1c of 6.7 is an average blood sugar of about 160 (some different calculation method may say 150). This is already diabetic. From your history, this has clearly been developing over the past 4 years. It is a shame your doctor hasn't discussed the implications of this obvious trend over the past few years. Fasting blood sugar should ideally be 70 - 80 range. Non-diabetic HBa1c is < 5.
Avatar f tn Normal fasting blood sugar is under 100; pre-diabetes is 100-125 and diabetes is 126 and over. Normal A1C (a test for average blood sugar over a couple month period) is under 5.7. 5.7-6.5 are pre-diabetes and 6.5 and over is diabetes. I would never accept an answer as vague as "it's normal" or "don't worry", especially if you are concerned about it. Always ask for the number.
1348086 tn?1370783185 What test does your doctor use? If it is a random blood sugar it is virtually useless. Fasting blood sugar is better but still wouldn't catch it if you were spiking after food. The best is to get an A1C which is an average of 3 months worth of blood sugars. You can also get these at a pharmacy and do them at home.
Avatar n tn i have 121 sugar fasting how i controlled and avoid this problem please i am depression from last long time and always in tension
Avatar n tn I exercise a lot, jog for 4 kms (non stop almost) 4 times a week, do weights, stretches, cycling etc, Have a well regulated diet. Fasting sugar always is below 110. PP was earlier 130. Have diabetics in hereditary. I am 5.3 in ht and weigh 64 kgs. What could be the reason ?
Avatar f tn re happy you are working with your doctor and encourage you to do so. Was this a fasting blood sugar? The range that is normal is between 72 and 100 which indicates you are just ever so slightly elevated at 103. This is probably why your doctor will keep an eye on it. https://www.medicinenet.com/normal_blood_sugar_levels_in_adults_with_diabetes/article.htm. There is more information in this article.
Avatar m tn Hi, the A1c and the FBS test different things. A1c tests your average blood sugar over the past 3 months. An a1c of 5 gives you an average blood sugar of about 100. I think A1c is veyr important for monitoring trend over time. Fasting blood glucose is a bit useful in that fasting glucose can change over time and indicate a problem. But in many people the fasting blood glucose might be one of the last numbers to be abnormal.
Avatar n tn My habit is 5.6 and morning blood sugar is 113. Is it blood sugar ? What steps I have to take to control it?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in March of this year. My A1C was 7.8. I was given Metformin to take 2x Daily. They told me they wanted my fasting blood sugar to be 70 - 110, but I can't remember what they told me the range should be 2 hours after eating. I am only suppose to check my blood sugars once a day so I try to do it at a different time every day and I just can't remember what they told me what they should be after eating. Oh, and my A1C was down to 6.
Avatar n tn In general, if your blood sugar level is below 100 mg / dL after fasting for at least 8 to 10 hours, then your blood sugar is normal. Blood sugar levels are usually lowest before each meal.
