Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar elevation

blood-sugar

Avatar f tn My blood sugar has recently been elevated. I have no family history of Diabetes. Could this elevation be due to side effects of some of these medications I'm taking?
Avatar m tn All was well last year but today the fasting lab results showed elevated Hemoglobin Levels of 10. I now have diabetes consult scheduled and am monitoring my blood sugar levels (non-fasting blood sugar was 106 at the doctor’s office and 96 before supper). I just spent 6 months living at 8,000 feet above sea level and fasted for 14 hours having drunk little water during this fast. Can these results be skewed because of 6 months at 8,000’ elevation and lack of water?? Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn Wow, I wasn't aware of Tricor causing elevation of blood sugar. Seems I need to research Tricor a bit more.
Avatar m tn Just wondering if blood sugar elevation gets higher than normal because of TXing. I am 150. Also have you guys heard the new SVR rating is now considered less than 43 instead of less than 10?
Avatar n tn No family history of diabetes, significant history of heart disease. Cholesterol levels were well maintained until June 2008, no indication of blood sugar elevation either, until now. BP is good, slightly higher in last year but was well below norms until now.

Avatar m tn The only way to actually resolve / cure it is to get your blood sugars very tightly controlled with most if not all reading in the range of 80-140. IF you can control your blood sugar this well, it is possible that you may be able to recover the neuropathy. Note that the healing process takes a long time (about 6 - 8 months) and the pain may temporarily be worse (healing nerves hurt) before it finally improves.
Avatar f tn I've just begun checking my blood sugar levels the last few days because I have other health issues going on and thought I'd better check that too...for the first time in my life, my blood sugar was 167....in the evening before dinner. Since then, the lowest it's been is 97. Fasting this am was 127 and this afternoon about 45min after eating some cheese it was 202!!! I have NEVER had an elevation, by BS has always been normal or slightly low. This has me scared.
923105 tn?1341827649 I was not told about the tendency to raise blood sugar as its side effect. I monitor my blood sugar daily upon waking up and in two weeks it has gone down to 123 fasting. I weighed 176 lbs. (5'6") on the buff at the beginning and lost a couple of pounds since then. I will be three quarter of a century old next month. I'm cutting down on my food intake particularly on carbs. I was told that it will take several weeks for Actos to take full effect.
Avatar f tn Other than elevation and rest what can I do to help the swelling in my feet. It's gets so bad. I drink a ton of water too.
908392 tn?1316522899 · Consume complex carbohydrates which improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar elevation. Brown rice, barley, oats, spelt, and kamut are complex carbohydrates that are good choices. · The diet should consist largely of whole grains especially oats, fruits & vegetables. · Watercress & horseradish (in small quantities), have a healing effect on the pancreas. · Ground flaxseed should be consumed daily (at least ¼ C daily).
Avatar m tn t know exactly what happened but I do know my blood pressure went very low and after the next blood work my platelets were almost gone. I got home (3 days in hospital CCU) at 4 PM and at 12.45AM the next morning I had a heart attack, terrible pain, profusely sweating my wife call 911. They did another catheterization to see what had happened. The two stents had closed completely. My platelets are back to normal now.
Avatar m tn You may be surprised to know that, for men, 2 drinks a day every day confers significant cardiac benefit as well as lowering blood sugar and possibly reducing the likelihood of rheumatoid arthritis. With women it is 1 drink per day that is beneficial. Anything more than 2 in men and 1 in women and the benefit disappears and in its place a liability emerges and increases as alcohol intake increases.
Avatar f tn Have you tested for low blood sugar. I passed out on a fishing pier at Nags Head when I was 17 (1973). I had a five hour GTT and was found to have low blood sugar. This is the opposite of Diabetes. I have ridden horses all my life and during shows, I lived on Gatorade by the gallons, pasta, etc.

Avatar f tn But this morning I got really lightheaded and a headache all of a sudden(which I know is normal in pregnancy) but I checked my blood pressure again to see if that was it, and it was perfect. So I checked my blood sugar and it was 79, I had just had a fruit smoothie. The medical assistant at work told me it was low, and then another told me it was slightly low. My question is does anyone know what it should be? I go to the Dr tomorrow so I will ask him, but I'm just curious.

Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.

7631083 tn?1394352887 For the past week or so there has been a couple of times where I feel very weak and my hands start to shake. I know it means my blood sugar is low so I will try to hurry up and eat something. Its sometimes when I first wake up and there are times when its in the middle to late at night. I'm 36 weeks and 4 days. I should probably tell my doctor when I go in on Friday or should I be more worried about it and do something now?
