246464 tn?1249452147 Also suggest you carry glucose tablets or hard candies [not sugar free] with you in case a crash occurs. Eat one to elevate your blood sugar rapidly. Dropping below 60 is dangerous, down to 34 is life threatening.
Avatar f tn Actually with low blood sugar the best thing is an increase in protien. I keep a block of cheese on hand and if mine starts to drop then I slice off a piece and lay down with some water a few mins and it clears up. I have dealt with low blood sugar in all 3 pregnancies now but was not diabetic...oh and my dr suggested powerade or Gatorade to help keep then stable.
Avatar f tn Various things can lead to low blood sugars. If you go without eating for a period of time, your blood sugar can drop, or if you exercise strenuously (especially if you do both in combination). If you are on insulin than taking too much insulin for the carbs you are eating can definitely cause low blood sugars and these can be the more dangerous kind because you can drop very rapidly. If you are getting frequent lows, talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn Most people do not consider blood sugar to be low and in need of treatment unless it is under 70 or even under 60. However, if your blood sugar has been high for awhile than numbers that are not technically hypos can feel like they are. If you have diarrhea since last Thursday and not able to eat (regardless of your need to lose weight) you should check with your doctor as you can become dehydrated.
Avatar n tn 2days and i swaer im going to drop to the floor im not due back to my doctors till i am 12 wks.
Avatar f tn Hypoglycemia/ low blood sugar would be considered blood sugar levels less than about 70. Your result of 103 is normal, not hypoglycemia. It is likely that your symptoms may be from other causes. Sometimes headaches can be a sign of not drinking enough - so a glass of water and a few minutes to relax / be quiet - may help a lot. Hope this helps.
1947337 tn?1331423890 ll be thinking of you tomorrow, and most definately mention the low blood sugar to your dr. I would suggest you keep some orange juice also in the frig, but at low 50's is very low. If your feeling funny I had to give my dad a 1/2 spoon of sugar to get it back up quick. I also have learned if you over exercise this could cause your sugar to drop. Let us know about your appt. Wish you the best.
Avatar n tn How can your blood sugar be 255 at bedtime and fall to 40 at 5:30 am?
Avatar n tn As soon as I take in some sugar (I have some glucose tablets but if they are not handy I drink a sugared soda or juice) I feel better in a few minutes though I sometimes have some fatigue and a headache after. I know the conventional wisdom is that your blood sugar has to get down to 60 or below to be really hypoglycemic but that is not the case with me at all. 80 or below and I am off to the races.
Avatar n tn My blood sugar swings from low to high , its been as low as 52 in the morning to 210 2 hours after a meal any body got any advice , it can really make u feel strange .
1058898 tn?1275675151 Your doctor is uninformed and irresponsible to be allowing your blood sugar to go so high without advising you to do anything. As Zoelula said, it is your health. It is up to you. Get yourself educated and get it under control. Else there will be consequences. This is the plain and ugly, but necessary truth!
1192309 tn?1264801232 How fast should blood sugar levels come down with strict adherence to low-sugar, low-carb foods? My situation: I am greatly encouraged; my level has gone from 402 a little over two weeks ago to 105 this afternoon. Numbers are mid 120's and 115 or so prior to suppertime.
Avatar n tn My daughter was dx'd with Juvenile Diabetes 6 years ago, and Celiac 3 years ago. My question is to those of you that live with both diagnosis, do you find that when your Celiac disease is "flaring up", do you see a drastic drop in your blood sugars? I have posed this question to both her Endocrinologist and GI specialist, without much confirmation of how the Celiac Disease affects blood sugar control.
Avatar n tn on cleaning out the alcohol and not release glycogen to raise a low blood sugar, it is extremely dangerous to drink alcohol without food ...particularly if the starting blood sugar is LOW. Checking a lot is important. If the person in question is underage or drinking "to get drunk," my urging would be to counsel on deeper levels because that behavior has disastrous consequences.
Avatar n tn To add to Super_sally888, eating foods that contain white sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup or refined carbohydrates can cause your sugar levels to spike and then suddenly drop as if you have hypoglycemia. This sudden drop in blood sugar levels is due to your pancreas releasing too much insulin to counteract the sudden high blood sugar levels that occurred from eating the aforementioned food types.
Avatar f tn For some people, Metformin can cause glucose [blood sugar] levels to drop too low [hypoglycemia]. This often times happens when Metformin is combined with other diabetes medications, and is more common in elderly folks or folks with internal organ issues. Low glucose also can happen when fasting before surgery or a blood test/s and after lengthy exercise. You should notify your doctor of your low glucose experiences ASAP. Ask your doctor how to adjust your Metformin dose if needed.
7543158 tn?1391978069 Eating even just a handful of almonds now (my go to snack when my sugar gets low) will spike my sugar to almost 200 and I work all day to get it back down to an acceptable level. When it finally goes down it ends up crashing into the 40s and 50s, sometimes causing me to pass out as it's so sudden when it does. I've never had this problem before and it's freaking me out a little bit because I have no one to help me while my husband is at work.
Avatar n tn After I gave him something really sweet to drink about 45 minutes later he was ready to eat. So do we have a problem with low sugar or high sugar? Is this something to worry about? He cant't talk so he can't tell us how he feels. My husband won't have insurance until the end of April. So were kinda stuck at the moment with being able to get anyone to help us. We were also told that since his seizures last that long we should really be worrying about brain deteriation.
Avatar m tn Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner. Your blood sugar should ideally not be higher than 40 units above your predinner number (ie. 140). Don't eat anything further (unless you go low early) and then test again at 3 and 5 hours. If you are low by 5 hours you will need to take a lower dose of insulin the next evening - reduce by say 2 units.
Avatar f tn If you experience dizziness or you still get tired it means your blood sugar is low. If you have to urinate multiple times at night it means you have excess sugar in your system.
Avatar n tn He can then catch it if he is starting to drop low, before he gets so low that he is in trouble. Then he and his wife can go back to sleep without worry. If the glucometer is right by the bed, this is no real great interruption to a good night's sleep and may make them feel less stressed. He could do this for a few weeks until he is sure he is going to be OK.
Avatar m tn ve worried yourself, the only real way to tell if this is a problem is to see a doctor and get your blood sugar checked in a proper way enough to prove to you there is a problem or there isn't. If you're feeling okay, don't look for trouble.
11587059 tn?1427628263 I doubt it, but you need to discuss this with your doctor. I have diabetes and when my blood sugar is low I just want to shovel food in my mouth, no matter what it is. Plus it's not healthy for your baby to only eat sweets...
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
Avatar n tn I notice that when I wake up in the morning its about 90 but when I eat toast I get very hungry and shaky around noon. When I take my blood it 50 to 60. Is the bread causing my blood sugar to drop?
Avatar n tn Are you on a restricted diet? I'm on a high protein/high fat diet (Atkins revised diet). It's working for me to drop glucose and pounds. I hate working out so I go to low impact classes which are actually fun.
