Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar chart with ha1c

blood-sugar

Avatar f tn At 72, I've never had any doctor address anything regarding an elevated blood sugar level from bloodwork done every 6 months! Had bloodwork done 2 weeks ago, my blood sugar level is 133...how do I deal with this? What has caused this? Doctor is concerned, not frantic about this today, but I am alarmed.
Avatar f tn Just go to your doctor and asked to be tested for FBS (fasting blood sugar) and HA1C - which gives an idea of your blood sugar over the past 3 months. Target FBS would ideally be 80 - 90 (though they don't consider it diabetes until about 120), and HA1C should ideally be 4.7 (again they normally don't consider it diabetes until about 6.1).
1058898 tn?1275675151 If not and you keep seeing highs as well as lows, then it is time to see a different doctor or an endocrinologist who is more skilled with blood sugar issues than regular doctor. (and who knows that anything above 140 is a problem, not above 190!
1452593 tn?1285187324 Two hour PC (Postprandial glucose test) where they make you fast for 8 hours, take a blood sample to get your glucose reading, and then you eat a meal and then they test your blood-sugar again (another blood sample). You have to do insulin or your sugar goes through the roof. Beats me....
749963 tn?1298037994 My mom is a diabetic and wanted to test my sugar. My blood level was 167, prior to testing I had nothing to eat my last meal was coffee around 10 am and we tested around 3:00.
Avatar n tn Are there any chart available for conversion of sugar numbers from mg dl to mmol?
Avatar m tn To reduce your ha1c, you need to avoid foods that raise your blood sugar. in particular this would mean avoiding refined carbohydrates. The best way to see the effects of food on your sugar levels is to test using a home test kit 2 hours after eating. If your levels are really high medications like metformin may also help. However, if your levels are really high you should be working with a doctor to optimise your levels.
Avatar m tn But mostly you need to cut carbs (good for blood sugar management anyway), reduce fat and increase exercise. Also make sure your thyroid is stable as that of course affects weight as well. Congratulations on your A1C!
Avatar f tn A CBC will not tell anything about diabetes. A CBC is a Complete Blood Count. You need a fasting blood sugar, HA1C and a CMP, Complete Metabolic Panel. Many of the symptoms you describe go with diabetes you should be checked as soon as possible. Untreated high blood sugar levels can lead to death.
245504 tn?1224099316 I previously posted a question because I was worried that my blood sugar 1 hour after a McDonald's was 144. Well today my fasting blood glucose level was 78. So was that spike because of the McDonald's? IF I was diabetic wouldn't my fasting level be high too? Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn However, if you can get a blood sugar test kit (and strips) you could test fasting blood sugar (as soon as you wake up and before eating), and 2 hours after meals. If these numbers are high, then you would need to see a doctor. Keep an eye out, there may be free blood sugar testing offered by some pharmacies / in malls from time to time. Why do you think you have diabetes? WHat are your symptoms?
Avatar f tn Do continue to have your blood sugar tested on a regular basis. Also, keep in mind down the road that if your blood sugar start to rise dramatically and you are diagnosed with diabetes to get your antibodies tested to determine if you are Type 1 or Type 2 as having another autoimmune disorder (thyroid) can be an indicator of Type 1.
Avatar f tn I would definitely recommend keeping track of it closely for awhile. Those symptoms sounded very much like DKA which would not be surprising with a blood sugar of 1,000!!! If she feels like that again I would take her to the ER. Continue to monitor it for safety's sake, perhaps get a home meter. If you have any more high numbers I would take her to a pediatric endocrinologist who is more qualified to deal with it than your regular pediatrician.
Avatar m tn Just so you know, i am NOT a diabetic, nor does it run in my family, i do however have a question. about 5 hours ago i had mcdonalds, then about 3 hours ago i had 2 helpings of sun sweet prunes and a pepsi with natural sugar. I just took my levels with my GF's mothers test meter and it read 133 and then 45 minutes later the same. I yield no symptoms, no dizzyness or lightheaded, not really tired. Any idea?
Avatar n tn hey all, i have not been diagnosed with diabetes but i do have neuropathy and have been ruled out for just about any neuro disorder that could cause my symptoms (burning feet/pain, numbness, tingling in hands/feet). i had a blood sugar test (the finger ***** one) and my level was "perfect". i scheduled a glucose tolerance test just because i want to 100% sure i dont have diabetes...is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine???
Avatar m tn but for the past year and a half because of financial reasons, and no health insurance i have been without my meds. I recently had high sugar readings..and my goiter is larger. The clinic who handled my labs had the nurse call and tell me nothing is wrong with my thyroid..or diabetes...i am in a nightmare.
975514 tn?1324997938 The result of the test only shows for the moment when the test is undertaken and tells nothing on how your body handles, or has handled blood sugar [glucose]. You need to take a fasting glucose test [no eating 8-10 hrs prior] AND an A1c [HA1c, HgbA1c]. The former provides a picture on how well your body is currently handing blood glucose, the latter provides a picture on how well your body has managed/controlled blood glucose over the past 2-3 months.
85962 tn?1329981090 Do you monitor your blood sugar. You need to monitor blood sugar and get your HA1c tested - this will tell average blood sugars over the past few months. If you do have diabetes will be much easier to manage if you have normal weight and with the good eating habits you have now. Learn as much as you can. Diabetes is definitely manageable and knowledge is power. Best wishes and ask any more questions you have.
Avatar n tn My question is that with my Ha1c being so low is that normal for a diabetic? He seems to be in shock. I lost 10 lbs recently too. He said he has never seen bloodwork so perfect for a diabetic. Please let me know what you think.
Avatar n tn Or, one slice low carb [12g], 0 sodium, 0 sugar toasted whole wheatberry bread with pure peanut butter topped with sugar free jam. You'll feel satisfied w/o worry of raising blood sugars. Be sure to test your bedtime blood sugars. Going to bed with high levels means one-third of your day is spent with above normal levels.
996946 tn?1503249112 I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with extreme fatigue while taking glimiperide? I have been taking Metformin but my blood sugar is still running a little high so my Dr put me on the glimiperide.
