Avatar f tn You should check two hours after eating for a more reliable indication of diabetes or blood sugar problems, before a meal you should be between 70-99 and two hours after you should be 140 or below.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your help! I appreciate your feedback! I was wondering about the reactive hypoglycemia and if that's what it could be. This lower blood sugar after eating didn't start until my blood sugars were under the normal limits all throughout the day. I realize it wasn't that low but it was lower than what I was used to. Also, I was wondering if you might know about normal insulin levels? She checked my insulin level and it was 6, she said 0-25 was normal???
Avatar n tn Yesterday she measured her blood sugar which was 125 mg/dl [6.95 mmol/l) two hours after eating and 95 mg/dl [5.27 mmol/l] another two hours later. If I am not mistaken, these are healthy levels.
Avatar n tn For a diabetic, 145 would be OK after 1 1/2 hours. It would be interesting to know what yours was after 2 hours. it may just take your body a little longer to process the sugar. However, your fasting blood sugars look good to me. I understand that with your family history, you might naturally be a little anxious about getting diabetes. Testing your blood sugar occasionally is a good way to reassure yourself that your blood sugar is normal. However, testing won't prevent Diabetes.
Avatar n tn It use to 2 hours before my blood sugar drops now it is every 30 minutes. Candy nor sugar is keeping it up. I live off $7/mo. Any advice?
Avatar f tn Im a t2 diabetic n that is high even after eating it should be 130 or less 1hour after eating and in fasting it should be 90 or less i would call doctor n tell how high ur sugars are cuase that can harm baby
Avatar m tn Testing times should be fasting and then 2 hours after eating. By doing this you will also learn which foods make your blood sugars high (and you can then avoid them). if your blood sugars stay high even with lifestyle measures then medications (oral such as metformin, or injected insulin if your sugars were very high) would be recommended. Please read up on diabetes and it's management.
Avatar f tn I just took my blood sugar and it was 96 after I had a cup of coffee with milk and sugar. I am about to eat oatmeal with no sugar.
Avatar m tn Please if your numbers after a full nights sleep are much over 120, and you are still thirsty, and still over 140 I believe after 2 hours( after eating)............get to a walkin in clinic today. You might want to call your insurance co. and get their guidance before you do that TODAY. Don't be scared. The dry mouth was one of the symptoms of possible diabetes. That number is another! My first symptoms when I asked to be tested started similarly.
Avatar n tn Sugar lifts up your blood sugar level temporarily and then it crashes, to less than it was before you ate the sweet thing. If you are eating a lot of sweets, you'll definitely experience this. Try for some snacks that have protein and more complex carbs in them, they last longer.
Avatar m tn Check if it can raise your blood sugar levels. Some high blood pressure medicine can raise the sugar levels. Know your body. It is the inly one you will have.
Avatar n tn on a Saturday. I had eaten breakfast only about an hour before, maybe up to two hours. My blood glucose was 61. I guess I have two questions. The first is whether I should get tested for anything like adrenal deficiencies or something else? The second pertains to diet. The advice I've gotten from those close to me is to eat protein, try to limit carbs, definitely keep sugar intake as low as possible.
Avatar m tn Any sustained blood sugars over 140 are when complications begin. So if the blood sugar spikes up that high and comes right back down it isn't as bad as if it stays there for awhile, but it would be better not to get that high altogether. But it really doesn't make sense that your blood sugar would be that high right after eating. It usually takes awhile to reach its highest point which is why we are told to test at 2 hours (though some people hit their peak a bit sooner).
Avatar m tn You might try eating smaller amounts at more frequent intervals through the day. Large frequent meals put a big stress on many body systems. It's interesting you say this lasts for two hours after meals. That's a time frame some blood sugar tests target for a return to pre-meal levels.
1058898 tn?1275675151 I would get confident with your meter as I described above and then test as often as you can afford (test strips are expensive!) two hours after meals. Perhaps the changes the dietician suggested will help. If not and you keep seeing highs as well as lows, then it is time to see a different doctor or an endocrinologist who is more skilled with blood sugar issues than regular doctor. (and who knows that anything above 140 is a problem, not above 190!
452066 tn?1400626877 I really have no idea if there can be a connection but if you want to check glucose levels you should do fasting and two hours after a meal. Normal fasting should be under a 100 (diabetic is over 126). Normal postprandial would be under 120. Just an off the cuff question about your arrythmia after meals. Do you also have symptoms of acid reflux?
Avatar f tn It really depends if u need insulin or pills, if you cant control your blood sugar then you take pills if your blood sugar is not high. But if normally your fasting numbers are high then thats why they put you on insulin. I have a coworker that went straight to insulin and shes a diabetic now but her numbers were crazy high like in the 500 when she did the glucose test. The doc just prob know that pills wont help you.
Avatar m tn These should then form the basis of your diet Ideally your blood sugar at 2 hours after eating should be close to fasting numbers and normal fasting should be in the 80s (4.3 - 4.6). (multiply your numbers by 18 to convert).
Avatar f tn For anyone that finds this in their searches, it turns out that I actually have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Autonomic testing showed a drop in blood pressure after eating which cause these symptoms!
Avatar n tn You could be having reactive hypoglycemia and reactive low blood pressure after eating. This can be diagnosed by testing blood sugar and BP after the meal. You need to eat frequent small meals, avoid alcohol or take it with food, and avoid high sugar diet. Consult an Endocrine specialist to manage this. Take care!
Avatar m tn But, I would get headaches when I was eating fat free things with these food additives in it or sugar substitutes just a few hours later. To be honest, I would not think two days later, that the migraine is associated with the cookie. If you do suspect it though, then it's easy enough to look at your diet and avoid such things that have ingredients like the cookie. Eliminating the things I am sensitive to has all but stopped any migraines with one once a year now at most.
Avatar n tn I totally agree with the advice that has been given to you. Most articles that discuss normal ranges of blood sugar for people who are not diabetic list the range of "normal" as being between about 70-140. I believe that some doctors consider a blood sugar higher than about 150 after a meal as diabetic. So your son's sugar levels in the 200's do warrant some tests. We wish you the best.
Avatar m tn Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner. Your blood sugar should ideally not be higher than 40 units above your predinner number (ie. 140). Don't eat anything further (unless you go low early) and then test again at 3 and 5 hours. If you are low by 5 hours you will need to take a lower dose of insulin the next evening - reduce by say 2 units.
Avatar f tn These secrete huge amount of insulin in response to food and the person has hypoglycemia or low blood sugar just after eating. Diagnosis is by doing blood sugar levels fating, after food and through glucose challenge test. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do consult your doctor regarding these possibilities and treatment options discussed. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
