Avatar n tn Hi alcohol can cause low blood sugar levels for some due to its effect on the liver. But even more it can cause those person with diabetes to pay less attention to their health and blood sugars. This does not mean you can never drink alcohol, But it should be taken in moderation only. When you do have a first drink (remember moderation) do it in the company of a trusted friend so you can safely see the effect it has on you.
Avatar f tn actually drinking alcohol helps lower your sugar levels because even though alcohol has carbs the sugar does not get into your system because of the alcohol.. so i say, if your gonna have a shake, make sure to drink a bit before and a lil after... or like when my numbers were in 400's one weekend cause of a cookout, i drank a little and they went to 110 :) so just drink when you wanna help your numbers..
Avatar m tn Thanks for your information. Actually I tested my blood sugar 3 hours after ate. I am not diagnosed as diabetes till today, but I am awared that my blood sugar level may increase in this my age because of my bad eating habits like sweet, meat, rice , alcohol drinking etc. That's why I am testing my blood sugar level regularly. I want to know whether testing after 3hrs ate is perfect or not.
Avatar f tn Yes, alcohol affects blood sugar level - Each and Every time it's consumed. that being said, High blood sugar and high blood alcohol content would be 2 separate elements measured in Your blood. 80% of the alcohol from EVERY drink goes directly to the blood stream and, THAT is why You have high blood alcohol content. Four drinks would put everyones' blood alcohol above the legal limit Alcohol is harmful to the body - as is diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hi there I have had 13 years of dealing with IDDM and have found that initially alcohol lowers blood sugar but later as the ethanol is converted into glucose , BSL rises usually whilst asleep after drinking. Spirits are better than beer as beer has too many carbs. However dry wine I feel is the best. Here in Australia we are advised that 4 standard drinks should be the limit but most people say that if 4 is OK then 6 or 8 must be even better!!Good luck .
Avatar n tn Plain old alcohol will lower your blood sugar. Mixers, beer and wine have other components which will raise your blood sugar. My grandparents have been heavy drinkers for 50+ years despite diabetes, but they both tested rigorously to know their reaction to everything involved (food eaten, insulin, oral meds) INTIMATELY. Now I will point out that Grampa has managed to bottom out many a time, due to his martini not being accompanied by food.
Avatar m tn I have hi blood sugar since 2002, my sugar leavel always found 240mg +, I take insuline 3 time in a day, but after that sugar level not down below 240. if i stop to take insuline and found sugar 500 +, what can i do?
Avatar f tn He is going to have test his Sugar after drinking.....or someone test it for him and see how his sugar is reacting, Then base his drinking off of that.
Avatar f tn ve suffered with this problem for years, getting worse each time but always 24 hours after I started drinking. I gave up alcohol for 16 months and then realized that it is the sugar that causes the pain - whenever I had smoothies, which were packed with extra added sugar, I got the pain.
Avatar n tn It is common to have a immediate or the next-day headache after drinking. The immediate headache is usually common for those who have history of primary headaches such as migraine or tension headaches. However, it is not usually the alcohol which is the source of the headache. Certain nonalcoholic ingredients are more likely to induce the headache attack than alcohol itself. Hard liquor is more alcoholic than wine or beer.
Avatar n tn She does not react very well to alcohol either. Even after drinking very small amounts, she gets extremely tired and gets a red face (like a very light allergic reaction). Therefore, she does not drink alcohol at all, but I thought there might possible be a connection to her sugar-problem.
Avatar m tn Have they tested your blood sugar? I was dizzy alot when i was drinking as i got veritgo all the time but that is different than what you are explaining.
Avatar n tn This is why drinking on an empty stomach can lead to very low blood sugar. Alcohol can cause low blood sugar for up to 12 hours after drinking. Alcohol is also full of empty calories and adds no nutrition to your meal so if weight is a problem, cutting back on alcohol would be a good place to start. Some diabetes problems/ complications can become even worse like blood pressure and triglycerides when alcohol is involved.
Avatar n tn Best way is to take it (in known amount) and check your blood sugar 30 minute and then 1 hour after taking it. If your blood sugar does not go up significantly / is still in target range, then you can tolerate it. If your blood sugar goes too high, then you should avoid sugar alcohol as well.
Avatar f tn ve been doing research online, and came across an article that stated there is something about low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) that triggers something in your brain that causes you to crave alcohol. I've always worried about developing diabetes from excessive drinking. Then I remembered that my sister is hypoglycemic. She's not an alcoholic like I am, but I do know that diabetes/hypoglycemia and alcoholism are all hereditary.
Avatar f tn Can you tell me if I can have an occasional drink if I am taking this medication, or does drinking any alcohol cause a problem? Once in a while I like to have a vodka & tonic.
Avatar f tn sometimes after a long night of drinking when i go to sleep then wake up in the middle of the night i get out of bed and it feels like my heart is racing but then after a while it stops when i wake up in the morning its fine is this a problem because i am only 20
Avatar f tn hey :D i get exactly the same, its nothing to worry about, jst try to stay away from the booze its not going to help the panic, its just goin to make it worse :) x x
1253922 tn?1283235149 This does not sounds like ANY blood sugar problem, but a reaction to the alcohol you are drinking. Why not just quit drinking the alcohol? That would be the best recommendation I could give you. Secondly, when you have these blisters, I would have a physician assess them.
Avatar f tn You need to remember that lopressor is notorious for changing the sugar levels in your body and if you add alcohol to the mix which also has alot of sugar in it i am not surprised at all that your heart decided to do the dance on you. Those two things together if you are taking a fairly high dose could definately cause this. As far as MVP goes...i have had it for years and years and its no biggie most of the time and typically we feel nothing.
Avatar n tn Dear melgonzales64, i am a diabetic like you and not a doctor or medical professional. Alcohal has many different effects on diabetics which is why the American Diabetes Association recomends diabetics only drink two drinks a day. If you take insulin for the alcohol it will just lower your blood sugar since alcohol doesn't need insulin for it to be digested.
Avatar f tn how much do u weigh?how alcohol affects one before/after heavy drinking has a lot to do with weight, plus number of drinks consumed in a certain time frame.
Avatar m tn It could be either his blood pressure medication, low blood sugar, or both. I take blood pressure medication myself and it says right on the bottle not to consume it with alcohol. Granted, I've never had any problems, but I also usually only have two drinks when I drink and I rarely drink. However, you mentioned that he hadn't eaten lunch yesterday and was drinking in the evening. Alcohol lowers your blood sugar, so it could be that his blood sugar is dropping.
Avatar n tn Alcohol causes headache as a result of its effects on blood sugar. If you already have hypoglycemia, an alcohol-related drop in blood sugar may bring on head pain. Some alcoholic beverages contain tyramine, histamines, and impurities introduced during the fermentation process, which can also cause a painful headache. Drinking alcohol also causes you to urinate a lot, which can dehydrate your brain cells and cause headaches. It will go away on its own. Refer http://www.headachenech.
Avatar m tn This may sound like an odd question, but for our frat we are looking to have our initiation include us drinking a large cup filled with 90 proof alcohol and added a single drop of blood from 8 people. Is this safe? Will the alcohol kill diseases, pathogens, and bacteria in the blood? If this is not the right place to ask it please refer me to another place.
