Avatar f tn Erijon and I agree that you are taking strong meds. How high is your blood pressure? Shortness of breath is certainly a major symptom of a blockage in a heart artery, have you had a stress test recently?
Avatar m tn Everyone is different, but the goal of blood pressure med is to maintain a blood pressure of 120/80 or less. There are many options available, I would ask for some additional options. Meds alone may not work, you need to do your part. Cut out the foods high in salt and exercise, both along with BP meds should do the trick.
Avatar f tn - Patients should carry a copy of their medical records (including their diagnosis, list of medications being taken, medical history, and a copy of their latest EKG). Consider wearing a medical ID bracelet. - Obtain a doctor's note giving the patient permission to fly. - Notify the airline ahead of time to ensure they have staff available to assist with boarding. Request in-flight oxygen if needed. - Carry along plenty of medication, water, and food in case there are flight delays.
Avatar m tn If you stop taking your blood pressure medications while being hypertensive, you are at risk for strokes. Please do not stop taking metoprolol without consulting your physician. Metoprolol is in pregnancy category C, which means its safety use during pregnancy in human is not conclusive. Animals studies have shown adverse effects, but there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans. It is important to assess the risks vs the benefits with metoprolol during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn She has also had triple bypass surgery and has some high blood pressure but is otherwise in very good shape and very active. I already know that high amounts of certain supplements like vitamin K and iron should be avoided when taking blood thinners but what other vitamins or minerals should be avoided? I've read that high amounts of vitamin E can cause problems but since the dose will be devided she'll only be getting around 133 iu.
21064 tn?1309308733 I could really use your help. I am trying to compile a list of common heart medications for one of the Health Pages. So many times someone asks for suggestions, about side effects, etc. It would be great to have a place closeby where we could provide a hyperlink to more information on medications common for heart patients. Will you please help me by letting me know what medication(s) you are currently taking, or what medication(s) you would like to know more about?
1553775 tn?1325182402 Hello, I went to the doctor yesterday and I was prescribed hydrochlorothiazide for my blood pressure. I am really skeptical about taking this medication, or any medication for that matter. I am 21 years old and I cannot figure out why my blood pressure is high in the first place. I do have a lot of anxiety problems and I wonder if that contributes to it. I also take Paxil for my anxiety and I have been told that can cause high blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor if there is the potential of them adjusting one of the medications to compensate for the other if this is necessary and if this can be done. Also look into means of assistance for prescription coverage. There is the Patient Assistance Program where the pharmaceutical company that produces the medication can provide free coverage if a person falls between the gaps in insurance coverage and meets certain eligibility criteria. See if your medications can be covered in that way.
1260320 tn?1270394906 Benicar keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow. Benicar HCT has a diuretic included as well. I have been fortunate, Benicar has worked from the first day I took it and works well still today. My 90 day average BP is 108/67 down from 135/85 when I started. I have had no side effects as well, the best of both worlds!

343006 tn?1314446471 You have to be careful in fooling with compensatory high blood pressure. An example of compensatory high blood pressure is blood pressure to compensate for asthma. A high heartrate (over 100) is generally a sign of a compensatory blood pressure. Years ago I worked briefly for a pharmaceutical company manufacturing calcoium channel blockers. One of their in-house confidential studies confirmed that 18% of test subjects could significantly reduce blood pressure by taking calcium supplements.
Avatar n tn I have bronchial asthma and every blood pressure medicine I have taken causes a constant cough and wheezing. Are there any medications I can take that doesn't cause these side effects? I have tried ToProl, Lisinipril, Tekturna, and now am on Verapamil Extended Release.

Avatar n tn Make sure she sees a physician immediately. There are a variety of potential reasons for this kind of swelling. The medications would not cause her swollen feet. The swelling is not from blood, but lymphatic fluid. The issue is fluid retention, which can be caused through several mechanisms. Get a medical proxy and talk to her physician.
612876 tn?1355514495 ABILITY TO RECORD MULTIPLE READINGS PER DAY IN BLOOD PRESSURE TRACKER Finally, for those of us with positional blood pressure disorders, blood pressure is often taken more than once per day. For example, I may take it once standing, once sitting, and once lying down in the morning before I've had my medication and then all three again in the afternoon once my medication is in effect.
Avatar n tn There is another reason why you want to avoid using the medications long term. A friend of mine warned me just in the nick of time. I was starting to feel sick from the medication itself. She told me that she had been taking the same one that I was taking, in the same class as Nexium, and twice a day like the doctor's prescription was written, but two years later it had destroyed the lining to her stomach and small intestine.
Avatar f tn Normal blood pressure should be no higher than 120/80, especially in those with a history of heart disease or those with multiple CV risk factors such as diabetes. Of the blood pressure medications you listed, Losartan and Norvasc are medications often used to treat blood pressure. Having a lower than normal blood pressure is not dangerous unless there are associated symptoms (light-headedness, fatigue, dizziness, etc.).
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Majority of cases of hypertension are due to primary cause, where the cause is not known. Secondary causes are due to renal diseases and endocrine disorders. You can check with your doctor to rule out the secondary causes. Also, as people age the incidence of atherosclerosis increases. Blood vessels are narrowed most commonly due to atherosclerosis, a disease where the 'fatty' material in the blood gets deposited in the walls of the blood vessels.
Avatar f tn Some medications are much stronger than others, and low blood pressure is much more dangerous, in my opinion, than short term high blood pressure. Low blood pressure will cause you to pass out. I know that from experience, with some bad results. None of us are doctors here, but it usually takes years for high blood pressure to cause problems with your blood vessels. I'd ask your doctor to start with low doses blood pressure medications and work up.
Avatar f tn m not sure when this event happened to you, but over the course of just a couple of days you saw quite a few different doctors, each of whom gave you medications. Looking back at that list I'm quite amazed at the stew of new drugs you're on. I wonder how you're even thinking straight enough to post to us. The list includes: 1) tenoret............for high blood pressure 2) Xavor.............also for high blood pressure 3) Zoloft..............
Avatar n tn I am 71 years old. About 10 weeks ago my blood pressure went suddenly up to183/87 and went to ER. Doctors did CT scan, x-rays, blood work and found every thing normal. They just gave me anti anxiety medication and sent me home. Also me contact a cardiologist. The following week I was quite normal and my bp was never more than 130/80. Following week contacted cardiologist as a precaution. He suggested to take Carvidilol 6.25my/Lisinopril 5mg/Simvastatin 25mg/Aspirin81mg.
Avatar m tn //www.leeheymd.com/charts/adhd_1.html - about half way down the page. And, I guess it is always possible that if you have never used meds to treat your ADD - and your ADD is causing you anxiety - then the use of meds might cause your anxiety to go down and your BP to lower? I do hope that some of this helps. Obviously, it is no easy answer. I would love to know what you wind up doing! Please keep us posted. I am sorry I could not give you a more conclusive answer. Best wishes.
