Avatar f tn i know nose bleeds are a normal thing because pregnancy affects those mucus membranes, but the only time i have heard of coughing up blood was from excessive coughing irritating the lining of the throat and /or lungs. please call your doctor.
Avatar m tn The other possibility is that you are coughing up blood. This can be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary embolism, or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Your respiratory consultant may be right that the blood is from the rupture of a small blood vessel, associated with coughing, but I believe that it would be inappropriate to make that assumption. The blood might be from anywhere in your respiratory system from the sinuses, to the throat itself, to your larynx and surrounding structures, to the trachea and even the gastrointestinal tract (the pharynx or upper esophagus) and not be evident on a Chest CT.
Avatar n tn If not cleared from the lungs quickly, blood could conceivably be orangish rather than bright red. The presence of a little blood in sputum, especially with harsh coughing, is not a cause for alarm. An abnormal chest x-ray and/or persistence of blood in the sputum after infection has resolved would be a strong indication for further diagnostic procedures, including bronchoscopy.
Avatar f tn But for the past two days I hacked up mucus and it was slightly pinkish from blood and my mouth tasted like blood. Is this serious ? Has this ever happened to anyone ?and how did you prevent this ?
Avatar n tn i can taste infection when i swallow and i keep coughing up mucus that has blood in it, what does blood in my mucus mean?
Avatar n tn whenever i suck out mucus i find some blood in it and a couple of times when i blow my nose i see some blood too... i have been suffering from runny nose and i have been also coughing for like about 2 weeks and i have only used otrivin for the runny nose... what could be wrong with me?
Avatar n tn Hi, blood in saliva or sputum is called hemoptysis. These symptoms strongly suggest that you may be having acute sore throat infection (most common cause). In such cases tiny tinge of blood in sputum is common. Some other possibilities are polyps, broncheictesis, lung cancer, gastrointestinal bleeding etc. Firstly you need to start a course of broad spectrum antibiotic as an empirical therapy if infection is suspected.
Avatar n tn I am a 48 year old female, 5' 7" 145 lbs. I have had a chronic cough since 1991. My son was born in March of 1991 (after I was told that It would be unlikely that I could have children) and 5 months after he was born I experienced my first episode. At that time I was in California. We moved to Arizona and my cough continued. I began going to doctors about the Chronic Cough in Arizona. I cannot name all of the anti-biotics and steroids and anti-histamines and inhalers etc.
Avatar n tn Last week I started coughing up green thick mucus, and a couple of times there was a small amount of red blood present in clear mucus. I have a terrible cough, that is sometimes accompanied with dizziness. I am not sure if I have a fever(no thermometer)and sometimes feel a little sick to my stomach. I have slight chest pain, described best as a tightness. At night, the tightness gets pretty uncomfortable. Any ideas as to what the problem is and if it was brought on by the abuse?
Avatar n tn irritation of the throat from violent coughing, blood clot in the lung, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, cancer, cystic fibrosis, inflammation of the blood vessels in the lung, nosebleeds, pneumonia, tuberculosis or inhaling blood into the lungs. Are there any other signs or symptoms present? Chest x-ray, complete blood count and complete medical and physical examination is needed to help with the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn if the blood is in your throat, it can be that at night as you're lying flat on your back the mucous is pooling in your throat. Maybe the blood is coming from your throat? You know, before I had my sinus surgery, I had a lot of mucous coming out of my nose and going down the back of my throat. The infected mucous irritated my throat so bad, that my adenoids were quite swollen. The ENT thought at first that was where the problem lies, and booked me in for surgery to get theme removed.
Avatar n tn Hi, You need to review with your doctor and get a chest xray and preferably a blood test done. This could be blood from your nose, throat, teeth, or lungs and the exact cause and site needs to be identified. This could be secondary to minor trauma, infection, or in rare case cancer. Was it fresh blood? Was it mixed with mucus or sputum? Was there any associated cough? Do you have any dental problems? How much was it? Are you on any medications currently?
Avatar n tn have had three episodes of coughing up blood in the past 3 weeks or so, two after exercise and once because of an athma attack. I had a chest x-ray after the first two incidents from exercising that showed hyperinflation (despite the fact my peak flow was 530, my best is 550 and my chest was clear). I was told to take a week off of training, and then see if it happened again. I had a bad attack Monday night and coughed up some bloody mucus after two nebulizer treatments.
Avatar n tn It could be any of a number of things including a lung infection. Its time to call your doctor or advice nurse; you will probably need to have a chest x-ray and blood tests ASAP. Avatar f tn Coughing up a touch of blood in your flehm is actually fairy common. Your throat can become slightly raw and spots can crack and bleed slightly. Most people when they have a bronchial / larynges infection will cough up yellowish flehm. coughing up large amounts of blood on the other hand is very bad. You will generally throw up blood though as it doesn't sit well in peoples stomach. medications that contain a cough suppressant may help over the short term to help reduce the irritation.
Avatar n tn The blood is bright red and may contain some mucus in it. The blood sample is about a quarter size and may happen 3 to 6 times in a row. I have had a lung spirometer test, sputum sample, a bronscopy, lung biopsy, multiple CAT scans, multiple chest x-rays, a PET scan and many many blood tests. All of these tests have come back insignifant. My current diagnosis is lung cavity disease. I was initially diagnosed with asthma and COPD.

Avatar n tn I have had this problem ever since I can remember, so I currently have scars in these places from all of the scratching. I am unsure if this is a normal side effect from coughing, or if it is something I really need to look into. I currently have no health insurance and would really appreciate an opinion on the issue. this question was asked before but no answer was given. it is happening to me now what 2 do?

Avatar m tn Following a minor viral infection 10 weeks ago, with a slight cough, I began to suffer from excess mucus in the throat, causing constant throat clearing and, due to a feeling of something caught in my airways, coughing to the point where trying to shift the mucus became exhausting.Sometimes, I can remove a small amount of gluey mucus (clear to off-white in colour) which gives some temporary relief.
390388 tn?1279639813 I have issues with BP and HR, Hypothyroidism, edema, cholesterol (cyst in breast, uterus, ovaries, and throat), IBS, TMJ, Type ll Diabetic (pre), massive muscle pains in the winter months, lymph nodes under arms swell off and on, along with throat and pea sized bump by esophagus, heaviness in legs and arms, lightheadedness, shaky at times, and hair has been thinning out. Avatar m tn In hemorrhoids the blood falls after the stool. In fissures it lines the stools. In all other problems the blood is mixed with stools. The blood in phlegm could be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis (a disease leading to dilatation of airways), pulmonary embolism (or clot in lung), or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar n tn for the past 5 days i have the cold but its been 3 days now i have been seeing blood streaks in the mucus when i blow y nose. but now the blood presence in the mucus is increasing. i am o antibiotics already. can you help me???
Avatar m tn This is usually a symptom and not a disease. This could be due to post nasal drip which is mucus accumulation in the back of the nose and throat, excessive or thick secretions, or impairment in the normal clearance of mucus from the nose and throat. Try to avoid the nasal irritants such as cigarette smoke, perfume, aerosol sprays, smoke, smog and car exhaust. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from excess mucus which lodges in my throat for about 3+ years now. It causes me fatigue, and it interferes with daily life, e.g. coughing up mucus all day into sink, tissues, etc. It has not let up, except for about 2 days. I have gone to approximately six doctors and no one has determined the cause nor does anyone have any ideas. I have had a car load of tests run, e.g.
