1813627 tn?1337725975 a blood glucose test is normal when you first see the doctor around 8 to 10 weeks if your doctor thinks you have a risk factors for gestational diabetes such as being overweight. I am overweight and the doctor does 1 for me at 8 weeks and then again later on at the normal time. also your number could have been high if you didn't fast the night before.

Avatar f tn Ok so I failed my one hr glucose test. I attempted my three hr one but after the first hour it all came right back up and my face was really broke out for two days. So now they want me to take it again. What if it comes back up. I'm almost 32 wks and I just feel like they should give up already or find another solution.
415867 tn?1323369103 I think they are affiliated in that when your glucose levels are high you are susceptible to insulin resistance which is why many women who have PCOS are at risk of getting diabetes. It is the insulin resistance that I think has an affect on the other hormone levels.
Avatar f tn My docs always suggested nothing after midnight (water is fine tho as it doesn't contain anything)..Blood work when you go in, take the drink, blood work again and drink again and blood work again. It is no fun but hang in there and positive vibes sent your way!
Avatar f tn I would do a blood glucose test ... The glucose test they administer to pregnant women is dangerous ... I took my test via blood and they got a clear result I'll send a link here exposing the horrible glucola drink ... http://foodbabe.
4182046 tn?1355823639 When I get my blood drawn I never look, I just look up or the other direction. It helps alot to do that because when I got my blood drawn for the glucose test I didn't even feel it, the needle was so thin.
Avatar f tn Its a blood test that they do to check to see if you have gestational diabetes. Everyone has to take it. They give you a sugary drink and you have to drink it within 5 minutes, then after an hour they draw your blood. The drink can make you sick though, it made me very sick!
Avatar f tn When i did mine they didn't make me fast. i had eaten mcdonalds pancakes and oj right before i went.
Avatar f tn / my sil said they made her do the 3 hour test the first time.
Avatar f tn I wasn't told beforehand. They just decided to have me do it lol. But I didn't eat anything sugary at all that morning so I was okay.
Avatar f tn However thin people do get gestational diabetes as well, so don't assume you'll pass just because you're a healthy weight. It is called the one hour glucose tolerance test because your blood is drawn one hour after drinking the glucose drink. If you fail and have to do the three hour the draw your blood first, make you drink the drink, and then draw blood at specific time intervals throughout the next three hours.
Avatar n tn I am 23 wks preggers and last week I saw my consultant, who has said in mid sept I have to have a glucose test. I have low blood pressure all the way through pregnancy, high BMI because I am overweight and the consultant put me on clexane injections daily. Can anyone tell me why I have to have this glucose test and what it's for please? I have had a poor diet because of bad sickness. I was losing weight up to 3-4 months preggers and I still have sickness now just not as bad.
Avatar f tn Yupp, I just had mine done, yesterday
Avatar f tn Turns out I have gestational diabetes (readings were slightly elevated) where I now have to monitor (prick and test) my blood glucose everyday until baby arrives. ***** because it makes me stress about eating anything carbohydrate. My baby somehow was on track but I since being on this new diet baby measured 3 days smaller than supposed to.
Avatar f tn You will be fine I had the orange. It tastes like an orange soda at first and then u start to feel nauseas. It tastes like sugary **** at the end but you have to force it down otherwise they won't do the test. The blood test wasn't that bad. And I'm normally a huge baby & faint when getting blood drawn. Haha. Anyways I went out to eat right after!!!!! I was so hungry.
10219953 tn?1426175439 I have my test next week. Passed with my first test with my first pregnancy so hoping it's the same this time, it's been 9 years tho so my fingers are crossed. Hope everything turns out fine for you!
Avatar f tn You can eat before hand. You just got to choose what ou eat very wisely. Nothing sugary as i was told.
7094011 tn?1405459486 I have my glucose test tomorrow and I am super nervous! I LOVE my sweets, and espically being pregnant that's all I crave is sweets! However the receptionist at my OB office gave me my drink and gave me instructions to eat a normal breakfast, drink the drink 30 minutes before my appointment. When I've talked to so e other people they have said eating before you go could potentially make you fail the test.
Avatar f tn So I have the glucose test in 3 weeks everyone is saying how horrible it is. Is it that bad?
Avatar n tn What is this glucose test I keep hearing about? I'm 25wk and I've not done it.
Avatar f tn I just watch how much I take in now just not going crazy like I use too. It's not bad or the end of the world. Just watch when you take your blood what does make your numbers go up.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on how the one hour glucose test is done and when is it that I might have to do the three hour test? I know that I have to fast before the test but I was told that I could drink water. Is that true? I'm scheduled to do the test next week and I feel a little uneasy about it...TMI but I keep getting yeast infections, which I should add that it's driving me totally nuts and is controling my life!!
Avatar f tn He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!
184622 tn?1258559967 Well, my Dr called Friday and informed me that I failed my glucose test last week and now have to take a 3 hour test. I'm concerned because my mother, 58, was just diagnosed with diabetes. She did not have it while she was pregnant. But, I also understand there are alot of people who fail the inital test and end up fine. Can anyone share similar stories and your outcome. I'm trying to brace myself and put my mind at ease. Thanks!!!!
Avatar f tn i did take that test when i was 28 weeks, i did not pass the first time one our one, they will give u 50 mil drink that is too sweet, they have 2-3 different flavor that u can pick. after my first test they send me for 3 hours test that they gave me 150 mil same drink ,if u are going to take the test and want to pass it , try to fast for few hours before the test. i did not for that reason i did not pass it for first round.
Avatar f tn @Calimomma: how did your test go?? @Meganrose and Meg: The testing paperwork indicated that nausea and/or vomiting might occur, so it's happened to other women before. Don't sweat it! Clinical staff should be accustomed to working around all kinds of bodily fluids anyhow. :) @LadyJ.. how did the 3-hr test go for you?
Avatar f tn You should be fine.. My mom failed her 1 hour glucose test everytime she had it.. And she never had gestational diabetes.. My aunt had gest. diabetes and her and baby were absolutly fine and healthy.. she just had to take insulin shots like a diabetic person while she was pregnant.. Dont be worried he will be fine!
