Thanks to both of you. As far as I know, the meter is OK and the test strips are well within expiration. The doctor is very, very hesitant to write a prescription for test strips, so I buy them. It's absurb because with my insurance I could test four times a day free. As it is now, I really hoard the test strips. Yes, I try to watch the carbs and sugars, though I fell off the wagon during the Christmas days and that's probably why I'm showing the higher numbers.

I AM NOT diabetic. I had a really bad episode for the second time back in August, not as bad as my first, but it was bad. And I developed a new symptom; tingling in my hands along with possible color change. So now my symptoms and signs are severe hunger, nausea, shaking, weakness, headache, pale face, sweating, something almost like hot flashes; I get really hot and then cold, hyperventilating, fatigue, tingling and possible color change in my hands, and dizziness.

My husband has has Type II diabetes for 16 years and his blood sugar levels are checked with blood tests. This is what the Blood Glucose Meters do, they measure your blood sugar level by you nicking your finger and getting a drop of blood into the meter, which then shows them a number. I'm sure you've seen these on TV, but you don't need one unless you are diagnosed with diabetes.

If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...

I took him in with classic diabetes syptoms and when they did the glucose test his results were low. At one hour he was 50, two hours 70 and three hours back down to 50. So she told me he was hypoglycemia even though prior to that we had never recorded any lows like that. I will check that website. Thanks.

By reusing a glucose test strip they would not get an accurate read on your blood glucose because blood from the previous test would still be on the strip. That fact is common knowledge regardless of what country you are in so despite your suspicions I still do not think you have any cause for concern. If you consult with the hospital who perfomed the test I'm sure they will explain in detail why they cannot resuse test strips.

I was diagnosed this past October as insulin resistant. I had a two hour glucose test and my blood sugar tested normal, but my insulin level was through the roof. My morning readings were 125 to 135. I was put on 500mg of Metformin and started low-carb dieting & exercising. My Metformin increased to 1000mg one month later and then in December my insulin was tested again it was finally normal.

Before stating whether you are in danger of diabetes, or you are normal it would be nice to know the make/model and age of your meter. Age of the test strips, if you are within the expiration date of the test strips, and whether the meter requires calibration prior to use. Knowing the aforementioned helps to determine if your test results qualify or not.

He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared!
