Blood glucose test strips being recalled

Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test strips being recalled

Avatar m tn I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
Avatar n tn Hi, first, welcome to this forum. I'm glad you posted. Its time you saw another doctor. For a doctor to discourage glucose testing unless the patient is on insulin is horribly wrong. He/she sounds like a quack. It is important to monitor your blood sugar (glucose) on a regular basis to understand how well you are controlling your diabetes. Your above 300 mg/dl readings are high and getting real close to a dangerous level where diabetes complications start to set in.
Avatar f tn If repeated testing is required, buying the test strips in bulk may be beneficial. Some stores may offer strips at a reduced rate. You could discuss with a pharmacist as to what would be the most suitable option. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn By reusing a glucose test strip they would not get an accurate read on your blood glucose because blood from the previous test would still be on the strip. That fact is common knowledge regardless of what country you are in so despite your suspicions I still do not think you have any cause for concern. If you consult with the hospital who perfomed the test I'm sure they will explain in detail why they cannot resuse test strips.
866901 tn?1505506236 In googling "blood glucose test strips", I found several websites which offered test strips and glucometers at varying prices (ie.http://www.diabetesnet.com/test_strips.php). Since your cat is going to need lifelong care, it will pay for you to shop around.
Avatar f tn If a person with HIV accidentally gets his/her blood on the meter or the test strips (supplies) is it possible to catch HIV this way when putting your blood in contact with the test strips (supplies)? Hope this makes sense but I just would like assurance. Thank you!
325405 tn?1262290178 I was diagnosed this past October as insulin resistant. I had a two hour glucose test and my blood sugar tested normal, but my insulin level was through the roof. My morning readings were 125 to 135. I was put on 500mg of Metformin and started low-carb dieting & exercising. My Metformin increased to 1000mg one month later and then in December my insulin was tested again it was finally normal.
Avatar n tn is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !
5536886 tn?1455827346 How did you choose which blood glucose monitor to use? Are there certain features that make one better then the other?
503651 tn?1223174601 takes 6-8 weeks for USPS to deliver unit. Mine came with 10 each test strips and lancets and a test fluid bottle. Calibrate to strip number prior to using.
Avatar n tn in blood glucose readings, does that mean my 79 random blood glucose test is A LOT higher than that? And if I WAS fasting for that exam (it was a few months ago, believe it might have been a morning appointment), what does that mean in terms of the false decrease? Does anyone have any realistic/substanial evidence/knowledge on this?
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Avatar n tn A good way to see if yours is within normal variance is to bring along your meter when you go for a blood draw (from a vein). Within 5-10 minutes of them drawing blood, do your own blood test and save the results. Compare them with what the doc tells you your number was. Your result should be within 15% of the doc's result. What's important here is to know how you feel & how you function when your BG is at different numbers.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Before stating whether you are in danger of diabetes, or you are normal it would be nice to know the make/model and age of your meter. Age of the test strips, if you are within the expiration date of the test strips, and whether the meter requires calibration prior to use. Knowing the aforementioned helps to determine if your test results qualify or not.
Avatar f tn He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
Avatar n tn No Rx required for test strips. Try wherever you purchased the glucose test meter, or online at Amazon or web sites like americandiabeteswholesale.
Avatar f tn If you have poor release of insulin, then after exercise the blood glucose can rise. While exercising the brain gets a signal to increase blood glucose to meet the extra body demand. If this increased sugar is able to trigger an increased insulin response, the blood sugar gets lowered. Otherwise, it remains high. You should get GTT or glucose tolerance test, fasting blood sugar, post prandial sugar done and glycosyltaed hemoglobin measured to know whether you have diabetes or not.
Avatar m tn Before leaving her doctors office your mother should have gotten a wealth of printed information on how to control and manage her diabetes. A list of recommended home glucose test meters should have been part of that package.
866901 tn?1505506236 Just two days ago I bought a ReliOn Micro glucose meter at Walmart for $12.00. A box of ReliOn Micro test strips (50) only cost $21.94. I don't know if this will help. I haven't learned how to use it yet. It's a very small meter and needs no coding. My Vet didn't mention buying a meter, but I went ahead any way. So far I have taken her in once for a glucose test and will be taking her again the end of the week.
514349 tn?1272801633 I had to have 2 blood chemistry panels done before 2 separate surgeries in June and October last year. According to the results, in June my non-fasting blood glucose was 117 and A1c was 5.8. In October the fasting glucose reading was 103 and A1c was 5.8. I cannot get a physician to diagnose either pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes. When I told my PCP and gastroenterologist all they said in effect was, "Uh-huh.
Avatar n tn Hi- I am 28 weeks pregnant and just failed my 1 hour test yesterday with a 144. Doctors cut off is 140, so I have to take the 3 hour test. I won't be able to take it for 2 weeks as I will be on vacation, but I want to make sure that I am eating accordingly just in case I have it. Has anyone else had this long of a break between tests? And has anyone passed their 3hr?
Avatar f tn She just printed out pages of different types of diets and glucose meter and sent me on my way. We used the meter until we ran out of the test strips and I never had an episode. That was 1-2 years ago, as I said before. I've had episodes since then, but can't test my levels because we can't afford to buy the strips anymore since insurance doesn't cover things that aren't medically required. I feel lost and hopeless.
