Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test side effects

6403762 tn?1381716118 I have my glucose test in mid January and my doc said I had to fast. Most of the time you need to..I wouldn't eat just to get accurate results. If your doc said you can eat, then I'm sure it'll be ok to have crackers or something.
Avatar f tn ) I have been ordered to take a first trimester blood glucose test to check for diabetes early. I cannot tell you how awful it is to be here, empty stomach fasting, and have to drink that syrupy stuff when I'm still in the throws of 1st trimester nausea. Trying not to throw up. But already dizzy. If you did a 1st trimester blood glucose screening, how did yours go?
Avatar m tn It appears that you may have been slightly hypoglycemic for the past 3 weeks, the period of time tested by the fructosamine test. However, your a1c level is slightly higher than the ideal, although still not "bad." Most endocrinologists nowadays like to see a1c levels close to 6 or even in the upper 5's, but generally are happy if the a1c number is under 7. Your number at exactly 7 is on the upper range of the usual goal.
Avatar f tn I am so disappointed and really don't want to do the three hour test. I have had five babies and never failed a glucose test.
Avatar f tn Concerned about even doing my glucose test because of how sick and shakey I get from even the slightest bit of sugar. My husband is scared and so am I that something could go wrong. Has anyone had anybad reactions to the test? I was fine the fist two times just never reacted like this to any form of sugar, I was always fine just a little nauseated from it. My heart races and I feel dizzy and faint now when I have sweets.
Avatar f tn Personally I wouldn't refuse the test I would just make sure that nurse didn't try to take my blood again I would just let them know that you are nervouse about the blood draw if they could get someone who is really good at taking blood to do yours because if you were to have diabetes that can have serious side effects for you and your child if its not managed properly during your pregnancy a lot worse than a bad blood draw
Avatar f tn So I had my glucose test last Monday and I got a call today saying that I failed and I will have to do the 3 hour test. So I'm kinda freaking out. Does this mean my baby could have diabetes? I take the 3 hour test on Friday, should I completely lay off sugar until then? I'm not that shocked because diabetes runs in my family but it's so scary cause of course I was hoping it would come back negative. I just want some more info mommies.
Avatar f tn I know my family has a heavy history of diabetes on both maternal and fraternal sides of the family, and my immediate family, mom and grandmother both have problems maintaining blood pressure levels to a normal, with my grandmother being on medications for low blood pressure. I had the fasting 12 hour blood test done and I cam back slightly high on the fasting glucose at 100, which our threshold in Nevada at least is 99. I was also low on HDL at 42, minimum is 46.
Avatar m tn I do know that cortisol can make changes to sugar levels, it can also cause the skin to thin also. I would have a cortisol , glucose, and testosterone blood test done . I have never heard about creams which are steroids which you apply directly to the testicles, I do know that to much cortisol, in the body, can cause lots of problems, and sexual dysfunction can be one off them.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia is the body's inability to properly regulate blood sugar levels, causing the level of sugar in the blood to be too low or to fall too rapidly. Blood sugar, in the form of glucose, is the basic fuel for all brain operation and physical activity, including muscular. If the available fuel is too inadequate, any marginal physical or mental system may start to shut down.
Avatar m tn What **side effects** can this medication cause? Co-trimoxazole may cause side effects.
1616588 tn?1298642717 Please voice your concern to your physician, do not EVER sit in silence and hope the side effects will go away. This could be serious!!! Again, SEE YOUR PHYSICIAN,and do let me know.
Avatar n tn and neuropathy is sometimes the first clue floks have. Interferon can push blood sugars into diebetic range, so must be monitored. Blood glucose should be drawn at each CBC. Also note, we live in a computer age..problems in the wrists and thumbs are common to all repetitive motion jobs, and keyboards are no exception. As a writer, I made the mistake of getting a deluxe office chair, to aide my in long hours abridging classic literatures...
194838 tn?1303432144 Hi, Im still pretty new to Diabetes though I have posted before about my medications. My doctor has told me that my fasting blood test was 10, is this very high ? I do not test my own blood but am sent to the hospital for fairly regular tests but notice that when people post with their blood glucose levels they are in the 100s.
Avatar n tn Just got my 28 week blood done, everything was fine except the random glucose, which had always been between 80 and 100 jumped this time to 139. The more I read the more concerned I have become about this. Can interferon tx cause diabetes? I cleared at four weeks and would be willing to take my chances by quitting now, if I thought there was a potential for getting diabetes.
Avatar n tn Has anyone experienced any bad side effects from the hcg shots? I am administering them myself and just want to know what to look out for.
4654011 tn?1357646722 I did the two hour test. They take you in and take a blood test to see of your blood is ok then you drink the glucose drink( I agree choose lemon line if you can) and the. You have to drink the whole drink in 5 minutes. You sit for an hour after the drink is gone and then they test you again. If you puke you have to retake the test so I recomend closing your eyes and trying to nap durring your hour wait the drink made me very sick to my stomach for about 3 hours.
1461994 tn?1285900732 Now I get tired just walking a couple of blocks to the store, I had to take a medical leave from work. Still, I'm more than willing to put up with the fatigue and all the other side effects but Diabetes is a deal breaker for me. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thx in advance!
956931 tn?1271639769 Good Afternoon, I just spoke with the Coordinator of my study about the glucose issue. My last blood glucose was 97 before the "week one" blood draw last week which indicated a blood glucose of 114. My Hgb A1C was 6.1 and needed to be under 7.0; which it is. So I am not excluded due to my blood sugar as it is not at this time a problem and falls well within the range of acceptable.

Avatar f tn I was so sick, dizzy and weak from the 1-hour screening that I know I won't be able to do the 3-hour test. Anybody out there have a blood glucose level of 135 and actually have gestational diabetes? I've read that the acceptable number is below 140 but some doctors set the cutoff at 130. My doctor apparently sets the cutoff at 130... I had a VERY hard time with the 1-hour screening (sick, weak, dizzy) and am unwilling to do the 3-hour test. What do you guys think about the 135 level?
Avatar m tn He's also extremely hungry and thirsty. I've read that all of these are possible phenobarbital side effects. How long do these usually last before the dog gets used to the medication? I'm hoping that these are not signs that something else is wrong, though I am aware of the possibilities.
Avatar f tn OK so you were taking Teleprevir. Your GI said he does not think symptoms would set in so suddenly in almost every joint? You treated Apr to Oct 2011. So over the past year arthritic symptoms have set in. I don't get what he means by suddenly. I mean it has been a year. Not that I am encouraging you to think the HCV meds the cause. Still, who knows, they could have been a trigger or a catalyst. The bottom line is you will find out more on your appointment on the 12th.
Avatar m tn If you are truely concerned that your fasting level is high and that you think that other times of the day you are not producing an adequate amount of insulin after meals, then request your doctor to order a 2 hour oral/fasting glucose test. They'll take blood fasting, then have you drink a glucose solution and test again at 1 hour and again at 2 hours to see how your body responds. If they come back ok then you should be fine. Also have them check your fasting insulin.
674555 tn?1272603976 I can no longer tolerate alcohol at all. I had the same exact thing. My docotor did a glucose tolerance test (which is different than just a plain old fasting glucose) it's a 3 hour test, and found out that I am hypoglycemia. Drinking for years on end can cause your body to overreact to sugar and spike your insulin and then drop your blood sugar. It always happens to me between 1 and 3 am. I've cut out all of the sugary stuff and alcohol, but now am having leg cramps!
Avatar f tn The drink my clinic used is non carbonated orange pop like drink. I didn't have any side effects from it. In fact I had to do a second one later in my pregnancy and opted for the orange drink again.
Avatar n tn Is this normal side effects? My hepatologist went over the side effects and I have read about the treatment as well, but she stated that all but a handful of her patients were able to work. This leads me to believe that I hit the extreme end of the side effects as I was having trouble just going to the next room (bathroom) it would have been impossible for me to work. Thanks for any and all input.
