Avatar f tn I saw there are quite a few tests to check the glucose at home for cats. What is the difference between Glucotest and Pawcheck? Is urine test reliable?
1356964 tn?1302091035 Try to make this brief as possible.. Took my cat to vet a few weeks back due to her drinking excessive amounts of water and noticed her urine smelled stronger of ammonia.. UA showed no bacteria, and no, a culture was not sent in.Vet then suggested a thyroid profile and called the next day to say it was "normal", as was her blood glucose level of 101. Vet then suggested a 10 day round of Amoxi-drops as she thought perhaps my cat may be trying to fight off a bladder infection.
Avatar m tn I could really do with some help. over the past years my son has suffered with high tempetures (104) and headaches on and off. he also gets stomach aches. I have constantly been told oh its just a virus and it will pass but it always comes back. about a year and a half agao he spent a week in hospital and when he was better just discharged with no investigation.
Avatar n tn I would also recommend some standard blood tests that are used to evaluate neuropathies such as B12 level, B6 level, RPR, ANA, monoclonal protein (blood and urine), TSH, copper, ceruloplasmin, glucose tolerance test (2 hour), HGB A1C, paraneoplastic panel, and lyme antibodies. I would also suggest an EMG with nerve conduction studies to look for any elctrical signs of neuropathy.
192055 tn?1263559137 which is basically a procedure when your own blood drawn a d injected near the affected area (neck, in this case). As blood clots, any minor holes or penetrations in Dura tissue clog up for good. Have this chat with your Dr., they all know it.
Avatar m tn I have (had) Pansinusitus since June 2015, and I had several courses of antibiotics and Cortizol sprays and inhalers, which contributed to my eye sickness, which I only diagnosed a year later (CSCR) I struggled a lot with breathing, hissing in my lungs and a severe blocked nose, and a LOT of mucus. I used boxes and boxes of tissue. During August 2016 I took action, and visited a lot of specialists.
Avatar f tn MRI did find 3 buldging disks which explains my lower back pain but not my mid back pain. In the past 5 months I have also started getting eratic elevated Blood Pressures as high as 173/118 for no reason at all (not stressed or even doing anything) plus episodes of ha with dizziness. They come and go. Internal med. thought I may have a Pheochromocytoma but MRI and CT was neg.
Avatar n tn prior to heart attack, no high blood pressure, cholestrol wasn't that high to put on meds. had just had a good stress test than bam. so to answer your question all within last yr. blood work shows no infection.
1358341 tn?1282213443 Leukocytes (only interesting for dogs)*********** False positive test results often occur in cats, and this test is clinically unreliable. So only measuring PH, Blood and perhaps Nitrites and Protein in urine are interesting. Above, more quotes: Summary of Dipstick Analysis pH - Expected Results (cats or dogs they don't tell, but check another website for more exactitude): 5.0 to 6.
Avatar f tn So we probably put too much food in the bowl in the morning and that's why there's still some in the afternoon. When the vet did the blood work they found he's slightly anemic, and that his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. They said everything else seemed normal. He's also been on an antibiotic for the last week. He finished his last pill this morning. I think it was more of a precautionary measure. We do have a cat box, and I have caught him in there digging for poop.
Avatar f tn 23 pack year smoker with bronchial asthma, nondrinker, high fluid consumption, caffeine 3-400 MG/day down from 12-1600/ day 5yrs ago, avid outdoors person active in hunting trapping gardening shooting etc, live near 6mill acre national forest (across road) with other woods bordering property in high lyme risk area, 4 dogs 4 cats full ticks found on animals in past 1 dog had lyme last year but treated, symptoms greatly worsened this summer but many present for 5 up to 30 years, diet high fiber
506791 tn?1439846583 So glad to hear Hilde's glucose number was well into the normal range. Your beautiful Hilde looks so sweet in the picture. Cats are the best.
Avatar n tn My cats started 6 months ago with diarrhea, slight weight loss and high white blood cell count. A thyroid test ruled out hyperthyroidism. Then an ultrasound revealed inflammed lymphnodes in the stomach, She was then given only two Depo steroid shots within 4 weeks and the lymphnodes went away but not the diarrhea, the weight loss continued, the high white blood cell count too. The thought it might be IBS. The vet switched her to busimide and within her glucose levels shot up.
Avatar n tn dont know if this has any relavance but i have been having these symptoms, still waiting for nerve test but have had a blood test showing borderline underactive thyroid
Avatar n tn I go in for a blood test tomorrow and I have a BP check next week. I think the doctor may prescribe BP medicine temporarily. In the mean time I have an appt with an Opthamologist to test the pressure in my eyes and I have a follow up with the Neurologist in a month. They wanted to rule out other issues with the blood test so Im sure the Neurologist knows what to look for. Sometimes Im not so sure about the PCP though. I would have thought he would have had my blood checked months ago.
Avatar f tn Then I'll give you some suggestions to help control and manage your glucose [blood sugar] levels. And to answer your subject question, yes there are medicinal induced diseases, diabetes type 2 being one. I for one can attest to that. Drugs: Wysolone is a cousin to Prednisolone and helps to reduce your liver inflamation [swelling]. It's also used to treat animal [dogs and cats] problems. The bad thing is it's classified as steroid.
Avatar f tn I went to doctor number 1, who took my blood work once, and the glucose was at 70mg/dL. She changed my birthcontrol and thought I was fine. I disagreed. I went to doctor number 2, who ordered a glucose tolerance test using the nasty syrup stuff. My sugar at rest was 70mg/dL. One hour after, it was at about 100. Hour 2 was at 70, and hour 3 was at 20mg/dL. At this point, I could not lift a glass to drink and I had uncontrollable tremors. My insulin was in the 300s in hour 3.
359574 tn?1328364024 I have seen a neurologist, and will get a glucose tolerance test next along with some blood work. I have had neuopathy in my feet for at least 8 years and basically ignored it after a doctor told me I probably wore tight shoes as a child, but when my hands started getting numb about 6 months ago, I finally decided to bring it up to my doctor again. Good luck to both of us.
Avatar f tn Periodic blood glucose checks in hospital 4. Periodic blood glucose checks in hospital with fructosamine blood test 5. Urine glucose monitoring at home In my humble opinion, as long as the veterinarian is managing the diabetic pet in a manner that is comfortable to them and the owner is comfortable, there is no right or wrong way.
Avatar n tn A bad day (like today) is about 80% of my day I'm twitching. My doctor did a thyroid blood test which was negative. MRI/CT Scans in the past were negative. I have no other symptoms but this. I'm about 20-25 lbs overweight but nothing serious. My diet isn't that bad, mainly protein (chicken, fish, etc). Not a big coffee or alcohol drinker. I may see the chiropractor soon because I've had some neck pain. I'm not sure if it's related like some folks have suggested above.
Avatar m tn It would also be a good idea to have a blood test taken to check your HBA1C sugar levels or have a glucose test. Iron deficiency can cause anaemia and that can make you feel tired and want to sleep. Having a glucose intolerance or diabetes can also make you feel tired. Make sure that you have a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and veg and drink plenty of fluids, especially water.
1356964 tn?1302091035 I know cat are suppose to be strictly carnivores (meat eaters) and I still don't think corn, corn gluten meal and white rice are the greatest thing to be giving our pets since these do cause spikes in Blood sugar. I do however think (in my opinion) that Barley, oats and maybe brown rice would be ok. So, if something works, don't change it. It looks like your babies are doing well and I thank you once again for your input...
Avatar f tn I am concerned not only because my cat is ill, but more so because despite 4 vet visits in the past 6 months no diagnosis has been made. My cat eats only dry food and has suffered with constipation since she was around 10 years old. In the past putting benefiber in her water worked decent, but in the past year the constipation has increased. She now takes cispirade and benefiber on a daily basis. However, in the past 4 months she has rapidly lost weight (8 lbs to now weighing 4.
Avatar m tn I was told to give him 1 unit of the Lantus and come back in a week for the day for the Glucose Curve test. Insulin was increased to 1 1/2 units and told to come back in a month for GC. This keeps going by 1/2 unit increases. My questions are: 1) I am an RN can I accurately measure his blood glucose with a human glucometer (I was told by our vet, "Oh no, we have certain instruments that we use on pets.
Avatar f tn When there is insufficient insulin in the blood the body shifts to an alternative means to remove glucose which in turn makes the blood acidic. This in turn may cause rapid breathing, known as "Kusmal respirations". Square one is to rule out glucose abnormalities and this involves a fasting glucose test as well as an hba1c.
152660 tn?1291759171 He is always hungry, drinks tons and pees tons. When I took him in a couple weeks ago they did his senior bloodwork and the glucose came in a little high. They thought it might be the trip and abcess yuckiness but wanted to recheck him. I was curious as to what it would measure on a home meter- my father is diabetic- so I tried it. I watched some videos on youtube and cat diabetes websites to see what to do. With an ear poke- he didn't seem to mind it- the level was 123.
Avatar n tn 7) and my T4 Free was normal @1.32 (range from 0.71-1.40). I've had the 24hr urine test for free cats, metanephrines, glucose, complete cbc and all are fine. The endo I see says I have a nodule upon feeling my neck. (I had an ultrasound of my thyroid last month and I was supposedly nodule free.) Endocrinologist says to start Tapazole 5mg once a day along with my Toprol and come back in 8 weeks and that I probably have subclinicaI hyperthyroidism.
Avatar n tn this time ,it was a blood test, then mixed in the lab,and administered at the L and d dept.I thought that was pretty strange.I guess it's to determine how sensitised I've become to the rh + antibody?
4105307 tn?1369535032 My vet is quite interested to see the results since she has never used this one for cats. Mind you not many vets come across potential Cushing's in cats in their practise. I take care of everything myself, which is fine since I am basically retired at this point. I can do with little sleep if need be so whatever Tuxie needs, Tuxie gets.
541150 tn?1306037443 She was also overweight at the time. Did your Vet test Abby's blood with a meter. It would also show up in her bloodwork. It sounds like the tests Abby had did not indicate feline diabetes? I know you have so much going on with a newborn. I wish I lived closer to help you. Lots of hugs.
