Avatar m tn I did something really dumb today and now I'm scared. I was unclogging a toilet when some of the water splashed my hands. I have open wounds on my hands. When I looked down into the toilet I saw some used blood glucose test strips. I didn't see any blood. I immediately washed my hands with plenty of soap. About 1-3 minutes later I washed my hands again 3 times. About 10 minutes after that I washed my hands twice more and disinfected them with alcohol.
Avatar n tn is this necessary? do i need the glucose test if my blood sugar test came back just fine??? thanks for the help !
Avatar f tn He said I could have breakfast like two eggs and so i did maybe that made my test high.....Now I have to make an appt. for the 3hour glucose test.....I hope I don't have gestational diabetes that scares me....I have never had that with my other pregnancies....I'm scared! What happenes when you do have diabetes? Does it go away after birth? What should I do before taking this other test? Can someone advise? Thanks!
Avatar f tn Here is clarification on glucose testing; a fasting glucose (GTT) or an oral glucose test (OGTT) measures glucose in your blood at the time of the test. It does not take into count what you levels were three months ago, a week ago, or the day before the test. The Hemoglobin A1c (HgbA1c or HbA1c) test measures your average glucose level over the past three months. The results are presented in % (percentile) where below 6% is considered normal.
Avatar n tn about this finding in your urine, tell them to test your blood. If you were consuming alcohol, there would be evidence in your blood. I wouldn't let a doctor give me any grief over the urine findings AND being pregnant without telling him/her to test my blood. With them being medical professional', you would think they would already know about yeast infections and urine proteins levels and baterium.. Thanks Deb. Heather Thank goodness that 'mexdeb' cleared this up.
Avatar f tn Did the drink they give you for your one hour glucose test made anyone else feel really weird. The drink went down good I like the taste everything then I started getting really bad heart burn, my legs started feeling very heavy / tingly and my face went numb (like when you have drankntoo much alcohal) then after the test I felt really dizzy. And when I got home I threw up just wondering if anyone else had a negative reaction to the drink??
Avatar f tn If food says it is sugar free but has sugar alcohol. what does that mean as affecting glucose levels?
Avatar m tn I have recently received my blood test results from the doctor...She told me to cut down on fats in my diet... The outside of range, results are; Lymphocytes 48 Glucose 110 Cholesterol 228 Triglyceride 214 Hdl cholesterol 33 non hdl 195 Ldl Calc 152 VLDL Chol 43 Chol HDL Ratio 6.
Avatar n tn I'm a newly recovering alcoholic (sober 92 days) and my blood sugar control is becoming unmanageable. I realize that I am craving sugar to replace alcohol, and I do give in some, but my sugars are outrageous. Even without eating sweets, I am finding days where I am in the 500s for no apparant reason. And it takes a lot of insulin to regulate.
1813627 tn?1337722375 Had about 10 viles of blood taken which I gather is normal the first time. They also had be do an hour blood glucose test done which I thought was done later in pregnancy. So today I had to go for a 3 hr test sinces yesterday my number was 141 and they wanted me to be under 135. Anyone that can shed some light on this would be wonderful.
Avatar n tn On Friday I am having a blood test to determine whether I have a thyroid disorder, I am just wondering what the situation is on drinking alcohol the night before a blood test. I would presume it would not be recommended as it would thin and contaminate the blood, correct?
Avatar f tn One more thing should he be on some type of medication? Also he does smoke a pack aday and likes his beer and black berry brandy or jagermeister for shots. He drinks 2 days heavywhat I mean is 8beers aday and pint of booze with his beers.
Avatar n tn Thank you for your response. My fasting glucose test was only a blood test. I did not drink anything. It was a simple blood test and off I went. My GP told me that is the test to diagnose hypoglycemia, but his response sounded wrong to me as my symptoms are in relation to food. I am more interested in knowing how my body reacts to food since that is when I am symptomatic. From what I have read, reactive hypoglycemia is not diagnosed by a fasting glucose blood test alone but rather a GTT/OGTT.
Avatar n tn Hi alcohol can cause low blood sugar levels for some due to its effect on the liver. But even more it can cause those person with diabetes to pay less attention to their health and blood sugars. This does not mean you can never drink alcohol, But it should be taken in moderation only. When you do have a first drink (remember moderation) do it in the company of a trusted friend so you can safely see the effect it has on you.
Avatar n tn Sugar alcohol does not raise my BG . However every sugar fee cadny Ive seen still has carbohydrates, and they most certainly raise my BG.
Avatar f tn And also said Ill have the glucose test my next apt. What would they have taken one more vial of blood for?
1124204 tn?1292225977 thank you for your replies what help my blood glucose greatly was cinnamon supplements!!! if you guys havent tried it you should i never took any of the medicine prescribed to me i took cinnamon capsules twice a day and dieted and watched what i ate and cut alcohol completly im not a doctor or saying it cured me but just giving some feedback thanks again!
Avatar n tn This is because alcohol consumption causes the body to lose its ability to release emergency sugars stored in the liver to protect you some from hypoglycemia when glucose levels begin to drop. Alcohol use also will diminish your awareness of the symptoms of hypoglycemia so you may not know your glucose levels are dropping.
Avatar f tn Everyone is required to do it now. They just draw blood from your arm, like normal blood work. Mine came back negative, so my little boobear is ok:D and in a couple of weeks you'll get blood drawn again for glucose test...takes about an hr...lame. and then a few weeks after that, they do blood work again...but i forgot why this last time lol cow brains... haha or maybe this lastime was just me because im anemic and my platlets are very very low. Hmmm ..
