Blood glucose test accuracy

Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose test accuracy

blood-glucose

Avatar m tn I'm having some blood work done that will include a glucose test. The requisition form includes instructions to fast for 12 hours prior to the test, but does not mention anything about tobacco use, and I do unfortunately smoke. Perhaps to be safe I should abstain from smoking as well as food prior to the test, as nicotine could affect my blood glucose levels. But on the other hand, doesn't *nicotine withdrawal* also affect blood glucose levels?
Avatar f tn s interesting that you question the accuracy of your glucose meter for I was reading the September 2008 issues of Consumer Reports that rated both blood-pressure monitors and blood-glucose meters. Only one blood-glucose meter scored excellent overall and also scored the highest for consistency- the Johnson & Johnson Lifescan OneTouch Ultra Mini. The Ultra Mini was followed by Ascensia Contour, ReliOn Ultima (WalMart), and Accu-check Compact Plus.
Avatar n tn First, any prandial test (fasting and after meal) captures glucose only at test time, not yesterday, two days ago, or a three weeks ago. It really doesn't tell a doctor what is going with your glucose levels at all times of the day. Home glucose meters are good to see how well one is managing their glucose levels. Having scaled results (high to low, or normal to near high or above) calls for an A1c test to see the entire picture. An A1c test measures your glucose going back three months.
Avatar f tn If it's for the 3 hr test the draw blood 4 times once when u get their and then once every hr after u drink ur drink....
Avatar m tn Hi, i made up an OGTT test (75 gr) and my glucose level after 2 hours is 43 mg/dl which can be a hypoglycemia. I am not quite sure about the accuracy of this test becuse after 1 hour i was active and i think that this can lower my glucose level. My questions are : What can be the normal glucose level after 3-4 hours lunch or dinner time.(mine is lower after 4 hours) If i make daily activity is it normal to have lower values? If i make exercise , can this lower my glucose level.
Avatar m tn d guess, but one thing I did a few months ago was test my fasting glucose maybe an hour before going to have blood drawn for professional lab testing for complete profile. I was getting mid 80s at home, but my glucose came back 106 from the lab.

Avatar f tn These are the times to test 1] preprandial fasting [nothing to eat or drink [except water] for 8-10 hours] - this will provide an insight on how much glucose your liver dumps in anticipation of your awakening energy needed. 2] preprandial [before meal] - this will provide a baseline measurement against how the foods you consumed affected your glucose levels 3] postprandial [2-3 hours after meal] - this is when glucose from foods you consumed plateau in your bloodstream.
Avatar f tn How accurate are glucose meters?. The other day, I did two measurements of sugar blood in a row, (same finger) seconds appart and the glucose meter showed a difference in the numbers.
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
Avatar f tn I got the panorama test as well, accuracy is supposed to be 99.
Avatar m tn You need to eat more. You should test your glucose two hours after you eat. Your fasting blood sugar should 80 to 110. Your blood sugar dropped 6 points is only because it didn't have time to react. Since you didn't wait two hours.
Avatar f tn You didn't need to test as you had no risk. Protected sex is not a risk for HIV and rubbing a penis on the vagina is also not a risk. Air inactivates the virus and a condom during protected sex provides a barrier. Your doctor is telling you that it's psychological. Believe your doctor and see a psychologist.
1813627 tn?1337722375 Had about 10 viles of blood taken which I gather is normal the first time. They also had be do an hour blood glucose test done which I thought was done later in pregnancy. So today I had to go for a 3 hr test sinces yesterday my number was 141 and they wanted me to be under 135. Anyone that can shed some light on this would be wonderful.
Avatar f tn And also said Ill have the glucose test my next apt. What would they have taken one more vial of blood for?
885280 tn?1289562555 I have been feeling ill for a few months now.I started keepig track of my glucose numbers my higest has been 103. I have noticed when my number goes below 85 I am lightheaded, sweating, tired, cant hold my head up,clammy. When my numbers go into the 70's I feel like I may pass out. If i can eat something I feel better for about two hours then I do this all over again. Latley it hard to even get out of the bed without getting sick.
Avatar f tn Everyone is required to do it now. They just draw blood from your arm, like normal blood work. Mine came back negative, so my little boobear is ok:D and in a couple of weeks you'll get blood drawn again for glucose test...takes about an hr...lame. and then a few weeks after that, they do blood work again...but i forgot why this last time lol cow brains... haha or maybe this lastime was just me because im anemic and my platlets are very very low. Hmmm ..
Avatar f tn I told my 80-year Mother about it and she showed me several of her blood test results from years ago that showed her fasting glucose levels were as high as 123, however, her last blood test (and several before that) showed 97. So...why did she have such high levels in the past and now her readings are normal? She does not have diabetes. What would cause high fasting glucose other than diabetes or pre-diabetes? I'm very confused and would appreciate any insight into this. Thank you.
Avatar f tn The fasting glucose test measures glucose only at test time, not 2 hours prior, the day before or the week before. Did you sit and rest after getting to the doctor's office or did they call you immediately in and perform the test? The latter can, at times, give false positive readings. False positive being higher than normal/inaccurate. New red blood cells live an average of 3 months.
