Avatar f tn The A1c provides an insight on your past 2-3 month glucose levels. Red blood cells live on average 2-3 months. Excess glucose rides on new red blood cells, the A1c captures this and provides an estimated three month daily average. " If a result such as 5.8% translates into an "average daily" value of 120 mg/dL, how can 5.8% be considered normal?" An A1c of 5.8% equates to an eAG [estimated daily Average Glucose] of 120 mg/dl, key word is estimated.
Avatar m tn The test could be affected by MANY different things, one of which might be what you ate the day before the test. As long as the value is within the range you are OK. Finally, there is no need for concern that the light will damage the babies eyes. It is dark in there, and unless the light is extremely bright, it won't shine through into the uterus, and baby probably will not even notice it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn If your insulin was a lot higher than normal but your blood glucose was in the normal range, it means that your pancreas is having to produce large amounts of insulin to keep your blood sugar down. So, yes, your are insulin resistant, even though you are technically not a diabetic. Insulin resistance suggests that you are developing Type 2 diabetes, even though your blood sugar levels are within the normal range. The experts are not sure what causes insuli reistance.
Avatar m tn If you have co-morbid conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or both, it is important that blood glucose and blood pressure are controlled. It is best that you discuss the results with your attending physician for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Yeah you have to watch these lab techs. If they measure it wrong it could throw the whole test off. I would encourage you to take this test with an attitude of doubt. Please educate yourself on the hypothesis and theory as well as the control subjects and test subjects. They are still basing this test off of a study from the 1960's with a modern day test agent. My first I was one point away from failing the 1 hour.

Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar f tn I just got my glucose test results back by checking them online. Well since the doctor hasn't called me yet (cause its after hours) I was hoping someone on here would be able to help me. It says my result is 67. And the value is "normal glucose tolerance level". Anyone know if this means I passed?? Im too anxious to wait till tomorrow to know.
Avatar n tn In the event that you had a fasting blood glucose test, a dimension somewhere in the range of 70 and 100 mg/dL (3.9 and 5.6 mmol/L) is viewed as ordinary. In the event that you had an arbitrary blood glucose test, an ordinary outcome relies upon when you last ate. More often than not, the blood glucose level will be underneath 125 mg/dL (6.
Avatar n tn Upon performing the 2hr OGTT (using 75g drink) or the 3hr OGTT (using 100g drink), on several occasions, I have experienced serum glucose values measured at 1hr lower than those of the 2hr glucose values (Fasting glucose within reference range and all samples collected, processed, and separated within appropriate timing). For individuals with "mild" diabetes and suspected gestational diabetes, how likely it is for glucose measurements to show this trend?
Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
