Avatar n tn Hi, the week of glucose readings is more accurate, and it is real life data. I think that is a good alternative to the glucose drink. Wishing you well.
Avatar m tn Recall that optimal glucose control occurs when fasting blood glucose is kept between 70 and 85 mg/dL. This means that fasting glucose levels that doctors accept today as "normal" are in reality dangerously elevated. Second, mainstream doctors do not tell their patients about the risks of after-meal (postprandial) blood sugar spikes.
Avatar m tn but not high enough to make the diagnosis of diabetes. The tests used to make this diagnosis are blood glucose test and a glucose tolerance test. Has your doctor done either of these? There are no real symptoms of pre diabetes. The symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, thirst, blurred vision, numbness/tingling in the distal extremities, fatigue, slowed healing of cuts, and frequent infections. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition frequently found with diabetes.
Avatar f tn Regular exercise helps weight loss and also aids the body in reducing blood glucose levels. This helps the body use insulin more efficiently. "As a prediabetic, and possibly insulin resistant, should I be testing my glucose levels regularly?" Yes. Test times and necessary lifestyle changes one needs to make are mentioned often in other threads on this forum. If you care not to read them post back. "Should I go see an endocrinologist?
Avatar m tn Hi, the American Diabetes Association recommends a post-meal glucose level less than 180 mg/dl and pre-meal plasma glucose of 90–130 mg/dl. Please note that the postmeal glucose level is taken two hours after the meal. You should also consistently check these levels as a single abnormal value doesn't mean diabetes. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn s vital organs develop -- brain/nervous system, heart/lungs, and so on. It is during this phase that uncontrolled blood sugar levels can have a particularly harmful affect. Research has shown that keeping the A1c at around 7% or less during this phase (including the time of conception) greatly reduces the risk of major developmental defects and spontaneous abortion.
Avatar f tn Hey ive jsut got back from the hospital, as i went to the dr's this morning and my blood pressure was 150/92 i also had + 1 protein in my urine, i am 28 weeks pregnant and all weekend i was quite breathless with palpatations, also visual disturbances hence why i went to the dr's. I am also showing glucose +1 and keytones +2 (not sure what this is) they have sent me home to be monitored in the next few days, my blood pressure has gone down now and my bloods were fine.
Avatar n tn t tell a doctor what is going with your glucose levels at all times of the day. Home glucose meters are good to see how well one is managing their glucose levels. Having scaled results (high to low, or normal to near high or above) calls for an A1c test to see the entire picture. An A1c test measures your glucose going back three months. Why three months? On the average, new red blood cells live three months before dieing off and getting turned into Bilirubin.
Avatar n tn My glucose was 98 a few months ago - had been in hospital and was 98 - EXCEPT when they gave me either heparin or drip antibiotic drip - then it charged up to 177 - and they gave me a shot and I was back down to "normal" - but my Aic is now 6 - and glucose 105 - gosh darn - get one thing fixed and then it is something else
1714215 tn?1334713869 Doctors sucked today. I had to do my glucose test and give blood. I will get the results tomorrow. . Then my blood pressure was high again today so they made me give more blood. Then I had to get a flu shot. Now i have to do a 24hr urine collection to make sure I don't have pre-eclampsia. I start it in the morning and i am not looking forward to it. I have had a great pregnancy with alot of bumps through out it. I am so glad my little one will be her in about 13 weeks.
Avatar f tn and the prednisone actually raising or lowering the blood glucose because then it is high or low and those numbers will effect you. Does that make sense? What I do know is that if those are accurate readings, you may no longer be pre-diabetes but may have diabetes. What is your A1C? What do you do to treat your pre-diabetes; what is important is to lose weight if you need to, lower carb intake and get regular exercise. 215 is definitely in the zone where complications begin to form.
173119 tn?1296999736 I am pre-diabetic, and I was wondering if it was normal for blood sugars to be a bit higher when suffering from an illness, like a cold. I have a cold right now, and my blood glucose levels have been testing slightly higher since I have been sick. Will they go back down after the cold is gone? My fasting glucose this morning was 133 and it is usually around 110 to 112. And my 2 hr post-prandial glucose after lunch today was 133.
Avatar n tn You are in the correct prediabetes forum, Bhanu68. Improper testing techniques comes to mind - not cleaning test area, uncalibrated test equipment, etc. To be certain of your blood sugar levels get an A1c [HbA1c, HgbA1c] test. An A1c test will inform you of your blood sugars levels for the past 2-3 months, the lifespan of new red blood cells. Excess blood sugars attach to new RBC's never getting absorbed for use as energy. The A1c captures this.
Avatar m tn Your dad is correct, disruptive sleep patterns caused by sleep apnea have been linked to elevating glucose levels and diabetes, high blood pressure, lack of energy, moodiness, and cardio unrest. Getting a good nights rest is one key in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Avatar m tn Diabetes is diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are over 125. If fasting blood glucose levels are allowed to be over 250 or even 200, diabetes is very poorly controlled.
514349 tn?1272801633 you should give the values on these tests. example for blood glucose you need to have certain values or range that can help doctor assess if your pre diabetic or diabetic or needs additional test.
Avatar m tn When did you have your blood glucose tested? Was it before you ate or after? Actually, personally, I consider 125 very good on either side of eating. Just me.
Avatar f tn If your fasting glucose is higher than 125 you are actually diabetic. If you get a blood glucose tolerance test your glucose level should be below 200 one - two hours after the test...
649848 tn?1534633700 The last time it was measured blood glucose was 125, with insulin at 8.1. Blood glucose was considered to be in pre-diabetic range, while insulin level was considered to be normal. Now that I've had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia...
370181 tn?1595629445 My doctor has just told me that I am pre-diabetic. My fasting glucose was 124. Needless to say I'm pretty scared and would like your advice on what I need to do to either reduce or even reverse this diagnosis. Can anyone recommend a good book that lists the foods I need to avoid and ones that are very good. Is there a supplement I can take to help?
1253246 tn?1332073310 There’s another test called ‘HOMA-IR’ as well; this is the ratio between blood serum glucose and insulin, and actually defines insulin resistance. The test Denise mentioned is called a ‘glucose tolerance’ test. Good luck; do what’s necessary to avoid developing diabetes if it looks like an issue; you really don’t want to deal with that if you can avoid it.
