Did some looking around on the Internet and could not find an answer so my question is are there any risks getting HIV from using blood glucose supplies considering there is blood involved. If a person with HIV accidentally gets his/her blood on the meter or the test strips (supplies) is it possible to catch HIV this way when putting your blood in contact with the test strips (supplies)? Hope this makes sense but I just would like assurance. Thank you!

It is a monitor that has sensors which go under the skin and test blood sugars every 5 minutes. It gives alarm warmings when the person goes high and especially when the person is going low.
For a week I was checking blood sugar with the monitor when I first woke up and before I ate, and two hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I was also given a diet of things I can and cannot have. I'm allowed 3 snacks and B, L, & D. I can't eat more than 30 carbs per meal. And I have to keep a log of the food I eat and fax over my logs with my food eaten and the blood glucose levels. Sometimes the GD can be controlled with diet.
my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
I too, as a mom of a diabetic teen, am very anxious to have a non-invasive blood glucose monitor be approved for use (besides the Gluco-watch. I checked some internet sites and none that I could find had any new information. If you are interested in being in a study, contact your endocrinologist to see if you would be a candidate to be in one. Perhaps they could point you in the direction of finding an open study somewhere. Also, Joslin Diabetes Center may be a good place to check.

half year post liver transplant, my question now is about his bood sugar, we are trying to monitor it , we have the kit and test sugar before and after meal, but there was time that in just a minute sugar rises and and sometimes went very low. is this normal for or the kit have a problem?
When I wake up my blood sugars are in the mid 50s. After breakfast they hover around 76 or 82. They rarely ever go above 86 ever. Once a day they may hit 115 if I eat bread ..stay there briefly to go back down to the 70s. I am not on a specialty diet nor do I do keto. I usually eat a lot of fruit and seafood.
Once average my glucose monitor tells me my daily averages are around 75.
What do you think I have? Am I in a pre-diabetic state and my panaceas is just pumping out insulin?
I am a 55-year-old woman disabled with a chronic pain disorder. I have an extensive family history of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Is blood glucose reading of 139 ok two hours after eating? I've just begun self-testing and I've had three readings of 88 (afternoon, no food), 89 (morning before eating or drinking), and 139 (two hours after eating). I set up an excel document and print it off , you can fit two months worth of info on one sheet, it's so easy to show the doctor trends, I include how many calories I've eaten per meal. It's really helped me. I've lost 30 llbs in two months and have stayed off of medication.
The lancet holder and blood glucose monitor were being used on many patients. Neither device was disinfected before or after being used on me.
What is the risk of Hep-B in this situation? The CDC says that holders/monitors should be disinfected between uses because blood can transfer from the holder/monitor during the test.
That is why this pregnancy I am resorting to checking my blood glucose with a meter for how ever many weeks instead of subjecting myself to that test. Another one of my friends dud this and her on was fine with it. My daughter is also a type 1 diabetic so we already have the supplies. Good luck on the results. Drink lots of water and rest today.
how long ago you had eaten or had some calorie-containing beverages, your general feeling of health/well-being, stress levels, fatigue, any other symptoms etc. Since you have blood test supplies available, this data collection may not be overly taxing.
Then, give you doctor a call to discuss the results. If you're not pleased with the interaction with your doc (or any doc), ask for a second opinion. Even in folks without diabetes, there can be noticeable fluctuations in blood sugar.
They will give u diet restrictions & have u monitor and chart ur blood sugar levels every day.
