Blood glucose levels over 200

Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose levels over 200

blood-glucose

Avatar m tn Diabetes is diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are over 125. If fasting blood glucose levels are allowed to be over 250 or even 200, diabetes is very poorly controlled.
Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar m tn As the level of pain has increased over time, I am experiencing higher (200+mg/dl) blood sugar levels, measured with my glucometer. I initially thought it might be "comfort eating", but I have reduced my carbohydrate intake to approximately 100 grams/day and the high readings continue. I have tested my glucometer, and it is properly calibrated. My latest A1c was 704, so it is not time to panic, but I am concerned.
Avatar n tn Chromium appears to play a role in normal insulin function and glucose utilization, and some investigators have suggested that it increases insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance and decreases blood glucose levels in certain diabetics, possibly those with low chromium levels. However, others have not corroborated these findings, and a few have even reported a negative effect on glucose tolerance and blood levels.
Avatar n tn Hello! I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. The normal blood glucose ranges for anyone, child or not are between 80 and 120. Some doctors will say 70-110, but it's all in the same range. Now, that's the target, but depending on what is eaten for example, a healthy person's blood glucose can rise temporarily up close to 200. As long as the values return to normal after a couple hours, all is well.
390388 tn?1279636213 Being diabetic and having lots of heart trouble and high blood pressure issues myself, I can tell you that a fasting glucose reading of 200 would get my attention in a New York minute. Your arteries are becoming inflamed at that reading and you will start to experience high blood pressure as well as be at risk for blood clots in your heart arteries.
Avatar n tn In a normal Non Diabetic person, what is the highest (peak ) Glucose levels that are usually attained. If the Peak is below 200 is this considered normal? or is it much lower?
Avatar n tn With my last pregnancy (only made it to 9 weeks), they I failed my one hour with over 200, took the 3 hour and passed that...I think being it was fasting. (They have me test early b/c my Mom had Gest. Diabetes)......The blood test is generally more accurate than a regular glucometer.....I'm an RN and sometimes we play around and check our own on the hospital units and get different readings every time...one right after another,......
Avatar n tn She has all along been having some degree of control over the blood glucose levels. Since 2005, she has been taking Duotrol 1/2-0-1/2,& Pioglit15 1-0-0 . But the doctor, seeing her wieght (68kgs) asked her to discontinue Pioglit. Now, since last Sunday(21st of September), we have noticed that the Blood glucose levels have gone past 200.(250,231,222 are the last 3 readings for her Fasting levels,281,274 and 250 the reading for Postprandial) .
Avatar n tn Your little one was probably crying so hard when his glucose levels were low because he felt bad... when glucose levels drop below about 70, we feel pretty awful. The high reading over 200 certainly is way above where the normal level should be, so I agree that he should be checked by a pediatrician. Even if tests come back normal, I would recommend that he be tested often after this, for many type 1 diabetics start out with hypoglycemic episodes before full-fledged diabetes strikes.
Avatar n tn The range of 70-126 is considered normal before eating a meal, or as a fasting glucose level. So although the one test at slightly above 200 does seem suspect, one test alone is probably not something your doctor would base a diagnosis on. Most doctors will do a fasting glucose reading, perhaps a glucose tolerance test, or perhaps a hemoglobin a1c test, which would show the average glucose level in your body during a 3-month period.
Avatar n tn been on metformin 500 mg 2x a day...over last 2 wks suagrs have been in upper 200...so my Dr. increased my metformin to 850 mg 2x a day... i just took i pill today but my numbers sre still over 200 ..Is there an adjustment of how many days till new mg. starts to work...
Avatar m tn He has seen people with A1c levels of 6.5+ with normal glucose tolerance test, but not the other way around. My fructosamine levels are within normal range too. Needless to say, I am very depressed right now. Would love to hear any feedback.
Avatar f tn On average, normal glucose levels typically peak at 160 180 mg/dl (8.89 10 mmol/l) from 30 minutes to 1 hour after administration of the oral glucose dose, and should then return to fasting levels of 140 mg/dl (7.78 mmol/l) or less within a 2- to 3-hour period." thank you for your help!
Avatar n tn I would recommend that you stick with the diet, but that you become very attuned to when you need a small snack to bring up glucose levels until your body stops over-producing insulin. A VERY SMALL amount of juice (absolutely no more than 1/2 cup) will bring your glucose levels back up within a few minutes, and then some protein such as nuts will keep you stable.
Avatar n tn Technically being in the 120's is normal but it varies on what doctor you talk to. My son't blood sugars are all over the place for the last year going over 200 sometimes but I've been told unless he's consistently over the 160's it's not a problem. Good luck. I hope they can get it figured out.
1498292 tn?1289162172 Go to this site and you will get all the answers you need about Diabetes. Any blood sugar over 200+ daily is not good.. Normal is 80-120 and a Diabetic should always be around 140 2 hrs after a meal. The site is www.diabetes.org I hope this helps and feel free to write anytime. It will take a while for her sugars to come to normal if she was just newly diagnosed..Stay away from sugar, white bread, white pasta, high carbs etc..
Avatar f tn Yes a post meal over 200 is diabetic. if your fasting was over 200 you should be on insulin. The OGTT test 40 at 1 hour is low and no for most people 40 will not make you comatose Ive been at 35 and functioning. But 40 sound like you have Reactive Hypoglycemia. your pancreas over shoots making insulin and your BG goes too low. As I said if your meter is accurate and your fingers clean 200 is not a good number nor is 40 so id say you got something going on.
Avatar f tn etc After 2 weeks on a strict diet, nothing. My glucose is still like 190-200, when testing. Also, I have cut way down on calories as well. I am taking 500mg of metform, and glipizide (new). One typical day: Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg, 1 pc of bacon, 12 oz unsweet Iced tea. Lunch: Beef broth with veggies (carrots, celery, onions), 1 bottle of water. Dinner: 1/2 chicken breast, 1 cup of fried cauliflower rice with veggies (peas, carrots, onion), 12 oz unsweet iced tea.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Avatar f tn Ask for an A1c test which measure blood glucose over the past 2-3 months. Continue testing premeal (prandial) and 2-3 hours after meals (postprandial). This provides a good insight on foods that affect his glucose levels. Limit carb intake and white foods; potatoes, rice, white bread or anything made with white flour. These turn into sugar after eating.
Avatar n tn Any steroid will increase your blood sugars. Cortisone, a steroid is known to increase glucose levels even in those that are not diabetics. Are you on a sliding scale insulin? If so than you know how to adjust the dosage to accommodate for high glucose readings. If your levels are still high you need to contact a physician immediately. Any BS over 200 that does not respond to the protocol established by your physician requires immediate medical attention.
468796 tn?1220029445 If insulin in the blood remains high, eventually the cells will wear out and will not accept the insulin at all. At that point, your blood glucose levels start to rise and you on your way to Type 2 diabetes. My doctor put me on Metformin (1000 mg per day) and I changed my diet and started excercising more and lost 15 lbs. Within two months my insulin was down to 17. Also, having high insulin in your body encourages your body to store fat.
Avatar n tn s blood sugar goes up when the diabetic usually has high levels. For example, when my mother was diagnosed as a diabetic, her blood sugar was over 1000 and she was alert and could walk. You see, my mother must have been a diabetic for a very long time and didn't know it. So her blood sugar slowly climbed up and her body was used to always having a very high blood sugar. Diabetics can get used to having high blood sugar.
