Avatar f tn The oral glucose tolerance test is conducted by measuring blood glucose levels five times over a period of 3 hours. In a person without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink, but then then fall quickly back to normal (because insulin is produced in response to the glucose, and the insulin has a normal effect of lowing blood glucose.
Avatar n tn In normal children blood sugar will stay close to fasting levels all the time. Ie. his blood sugar is probably in the range of 70 to 90, regardless of what he eats. Actually in non-diabetic adults blood sugar will also stay close to fasting levels all the time.
Avatar n tn There are several tests that they can do that are simple that can tell if you are have high blood sugars or if you are diabetic. The ranges of acceptable blood sugars usually depend on your age and sometimes build.
Avatar n tn I do not frankly remember whether I ever had this kind of vision episode due to high glucose levels, but if my blood sugar drops extremely low, weird vision things can happen, like the 'yellow' vision -- everything can look like a negative or even colors can look somewhat psychedelic or bright but grayed out (sort of like what she is explaining) when blood sugar levels are too low. There are other symptoms of low glucose, and I experience the same symptoms if glucose levels are too high.
Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.

Avatar n tn Thi is my day to answer questions on the Forum, and it appears that you got the perfect person to answer you... I am a type 1 female who has had 2 children. During the second pregnancy, my doctors, who were a team at a teaching hospital, sort of made a test case out of me. They deliberately set my glucose goals so low that I actually passed out cold about once a week from hypoglycemia. I feared for my life, but my doctors assured me that the baby's glucose levels remain constant.
Avatar f tn Hi, normal fasting levels for children are typically in the 65 - mid 80s range. A fasting of 104 in a child could be considered high. Her post eating numbers are not terribly high, but actually they are probably on the high side for a child. I would recommend you do stay in touch with the Dr. It is very likely that some children with diabetes develop it slowly over time.
Avatar m tn With lemon juice, t2 diabetics can digest food easier without risking elevated glucose levels or putting their glucose levels at risk. So go ahead and enjoy those lemons.
Avatar f tn When this occurs, a person cannot maintain his or her blood glucose levels and will develop hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) within a few hours after eating. The low levels of glucose in the blood of these individuals often result in chronic hunger, fatigue, and irritability. These symptoms are especially noticeable in infants. Since people with GSD I are able to store glucose as glycogen but unable to release it normally, stores of glycogen build up in the liver over time and cause it to swell.
470168 tn?1237471245 The diet involves removing all sugar, alcohol, simple carbs from my diet and eating something sensible every 2-3 hours to regulate blood sugar levels. When I keep to this diet I feel well and the symptoms of Fibromyalgia diminish and my blood sugar levels out normal. If I stray off this diet my blood sugar goes up and then my GP starts sending me for blood tests, and repeat blood tests and then glucose tolerance tests.
Avatar n tn A diet that includes fruits, vegetables, fiber-containing foods, and low-fat milk is advised. Consumption of foods with a low glucose levels appears to reduce postprandial glucose rise and improve glycemic control. Reduced calorie and nonnutritive sweeteners are useful. However at this range it is also better to start with medications for diabetes to bring down the blood sugar levels. Please consult an endocrinologist for the same.

231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
863754 tn?1239144755 My aunt is in the hospital, as I type this, fighting to stay alive. After speaking with the doctors about her condition, I've discovered that they have absolutely no idea why she's dying. I'm posting here in the hopes of saving her life. For some reason, her blood glucose levels won't stabilize. They'll give her a shot of glucose to get her levels up, but in the matter of a few hours, it's back down to around 50 or 60 and they have to give her another shot.
Avatar n tn As for long-term brain development, I do know that doctors tend to keep blood sugar levels in small children slightly higher than in older children because the brain IS developing and low glucose levels have been shown in tests to cause some memory loss in adults, and therefore may be dangerous to little ones. The stuttering when low or high is because during those times his brain is starved for its primary fuel, which is glucose.
