Avatar f tn I am trying to control my glucose levels with highly restricted diet and some exercise. So far I succeeded but sometimes readings come very erratic, another problem is my fasting glucose levels which always come on border ie <5.2. Usually when I get abnormal reading at 1hr I again do at 2hr. I am really puzzled how to overcome this problem, is this also common with other women?
Avatar f tn I am sure the doctor will get back to you, but you really have to make sure and show this to your child's doctor. I have learned that the blood sugars he is having are not normal and he needs to be seen tomorrow. He needs the follow up testing asap and needs an A1C test. This shows the average blood sugar over the last few months. It showed my daughter to have a glucose intolerance. Good Luck. Becky This is on the american diabetes association website.
Avatar n tn That being said, it is not uncommon for a pregnant women to fail the 1h test but pass the 3 h test - usually, this is because fasting rules may not have been followed for the 1h as Kelly said.
1209036 tn?1299178657 The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola), which contains 50 g of glucose. The body absorbs this glucose rapidly, causing blood glucose levels to rise within 30 to 60 minutes. A blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm about 60 minutes after drinking the solution. The blood test measures how the glucose solution was metabolized (processed by the body).
231441 tn?1333892766 HHi Sally, It looks like you are doing good job of trying to optimize your health prior to trying to become pregnant, and that is definitely to be commended. A fasting of 100 mg/dL is just on the borderline of slight abnormality(impaired fasting glucose), as are your post-meal levels in the 150's(impaired glucose tolerance). I do suggest repeating the glucose tolerance test prior to trying to become pregnant, and also continuing to try to lose some weight.
415867 tn?1323365503 I think they are affiliated in that when your glucose levels are high you are susceptible to insulin resistance which is why many women who have PCOS are at risk of getting diabetes. It is the insulin resistance that I think has an affect on the other hormone levels.
Avatar n tn Hello, Your initial question was very broad so I could not know our exact intention. An HDL below 40 in a man is thought to be a negative cardiac risk factor and counts against you when determining risk for future cardiac events. I cannot tell you how exactly how much an HDL of 38 contributes to your risk however. The A1C of 6.2% is out of the normal range and may mean that you have diabetes. You need to be formally tested by your doctor.
Avatar f tn I get like this the minute i get pregnant, for me its my blood sugar dropping and then if i eat the wrong things (cookies or sugar sodas, i feel sick from the high glucose. I have been tested for diabetes and i don't have it. But i bought a glucometer to test my sugar and i definitely see a huge fluctuation in sugar levels when i feel like this. My doctor said that maybe when i pregnant i am more sensitive.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia means low blood sugar (glucose). The blood glucose levels in healthy individuals fluctuate depending greatly on the duration of fasting. The normal range is 70 to 120 mg/dl after an overnight (12 hours) fast. In healthy men, the blood glucose can drop to 55 mg/dl after 24 hours of fasting and to 48 mg/dl after 72 hours of fasting. In healthy women, glucose levels can be as low as 35 mg/dl after only 24 hours of fasting.
5609181 tn?1375332372 I failed my 1hr glucose test. My levels were 190. I had to get the 3hr test done on Tuesday and i ended up passing it. They will just schedule you for the 3hr test. If you fail that then they will put you on a special diet and monitor your glucose levels.
Avatar n tn Sugar levels for pregnant women :: fasting 95 to 70 2 hours after a meal is 120 or below.
Avatar n tn She may need to keep a closer eye on her blood sugars during pregnancy as the hormonal swings may influence blood glucose levels. A pregnancy alone is not dangerous for most diabetic females.
8485484 tn?1408936473 t a fatal condition if monitored properly. In a woman suffering from high blood glucose levels, the baby produces more insulin to control the increased sugar levels. • This could significantly lead to low sugar levels in the baby, since the body would become accustomed to producing excessive insulin. • A test showing glucose levels during pregnancy can be a sure shot way of monitoring the sugar levels. A low blood sugar level chart will help in diagnosing the condition immediately.
Avatar f tn Those tend to be elevated in women with PCOS. Insulin resistance is also a hallmark of PCOS so glucose and insulin levels are sometimes checked.
Avatar n tn I drank the bottle they gave me (100g Glucose orange pop) and went for 1 blood draw. They told me 5 days later I got 170 and therefore failed. I looked up online and found the bottle should have been a 50g bottle of glucose (not 100g which is only used in the 3 hr GTT). Anyone ever have anything like this? By the online tables, a 1 hr level on 100 g has a cut-off at 180 or 190 (and so 170 would be fine). I've saved the bottle to show them but am doubting their competence at this point.
Avatar f tn The first study evaluated magnesium levels in men and women ages 60 – 90 with the metabolic syndrome. Those with metabolic syndrome had lower magnesium levels than those not having the problem. In particular, magnesium affected blood sugar levels and insulin resistance. Another recent study showed that taking 600 mg of magnesium per day significantly improved blood sugar metabolism as well as triglycerides and cholesterol.
Avatar n tn thanks for that but does not answer question about whether the level will increase or decrease from random(non fasting).
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Avatar f tn This afternoon is glucose & blood work. Ty for sharing your story.
Avatar n tn In some women, blood glucose levels are lower before and during their periods. Each woman needs to discover her own pattern. I think she needs to figure out how her body works. She is young and is just learning how her body reacts to this. I hope this was helpful.
Avatar f tn Her testosterone levels are high, her glucose levels are high.. her blood level has dropped to a 9... What should I do... The first doctor said she was ok.. moths after I took her back to the second doctor which sent her to do more test which came up with the results of the results I mentioned earlier... But she was not clear on how to treat her.. please what should I do....
Avatar n tn Being a diabetic person should not have any effect on your ability to get pregnant, but it is very important to have those glucose levels under extremely good control while pregnant. Most doctors seem to nowadays want their patients to have extremely good a1c test numbers even before getting pregnant. And to keep those numbers great during the entire pregnancy.
304573 tn?1345577338 Anyone start having problems with their blood glucose levels...seems I am becoming hyperglycemic.....
349463 tn?1333571576 I assume this means I have to do the 3 hour test at my next appointment on the 9th. The thing is... I read about glucose levels and gestational diabetes online tonight. I looked at the "diet" they put you on. I already eat healthy well balanced meals 3 times a day with 2 or 3 light snacks. I do splurge and have ice cream or gummie bears once a day, but not in excess. I'm just confused as to how I could have failed the test.
Avatar n tn Are weight loss and drops in blood glucose levels side effects of tamoxifen? I had a lumpectomy for DCIS one year ago and have been on tamoxifen for 10 1/2 months. I started taking the tamoxifen in the evenings; however, I found that I wasn't sleeping well, so I began taking it in the mornings. I find that if I do not take it with my breakfast or immediately after, my blood gluclose levels drop sharply.
Avatar n tn I have recently stared fertility testing and my fasting glucose level was 96. My doctor said it needs to be below 90. All the information I have read said that anything below 110 is normal . I am now on a diabetic diet for gestational diabetes. Why is it important to be 90 or below before getting pregnant? Could this cause infertility? Since I've been on the diet my fasting glucose ranges from 91 to 97.
