Blood glucose levels during stress

Common Questions and Answers about Blood glucose levels during stress

blood-glucose

Avatar m tn The body recognizes intense exercise as a stress and releases stress hormones that tells your body to increase available blood glucose to fuel your muscles. If your glucose levels exceed normal levels discuss with your doctor medication or medication adjustment.
173119 tn?1296999736 I am pre-diabetic, and I was wondering if it was normal for blood sugars to be a bit higher when suffering from an illness, like a cold. I have a cold right now, and my blood glucose levels have been testing slightly higher since I have been sick. Will they go back down after the cold is gone? My fasting glucose this morning was 133 and it is usually around 110 to 112. And my 2 hr post-prandial glucose after lunch today was 133.
231441 tn?1333892766 Regardless of the results of your glucose test, you should continue to keep an eye on your blood sugars during your pregnancy because you are at higher risk of developing gestational diabetes given your history. You will stil need to gain adequate weight to nourish your baby, but you should aim for about 25-30 pounds during the pregnancy and not too much over that, so that you can limit your chances of having abnormal glucoses during the pregnancy. Hope this helps. Good luck and take care!
Avatar n tn My blood test was fine also, although I did not test for specific hormones and possible nutritional deficiencies. My fasting glucose levels were fine and my glucose levels after a test meal were fine also. What is a stress test? Could it be that all those things are due to being stressed out?
Avatar n tn This glycogen conversion into glucose is important in maintaining the blood glucose level. Therefore, during fasting, maintenance of the blood glucose level depends more on glycogen conversion than on sugars we eat. In severe liver disease, this mechanism can be disrupted, leading to hypoglycemia. Kidney failure also can lead to hypoglycemia, especially when the person is deprived of food. Avatar m tn I always take 2 or 3 pulkas or chapathis during night every day and i dont eat rice during night.. But whenever i check the blood glucose levels with the glucometer, i find that the fasting values are not within the range of normal values viz 110 for fasting. but the post lunch levels always within the normal range of viz 140.The random levels always varies from 125 to 150. Kindly advise me whether i am diabetic and do i have to take medicine for diabetes?
Avatar n tn This test starts out with a simple blood test to determine your resting glucose levels. Then, you drink a sweet syrupy drink and blood is drawn at different times after this to see what happens to your glucose levels. If you have an episode of reactive hypoglycemia during this test, it will show up. I am a very tightly controlled diabetic, and because I keep my baseline glucose levels low, I often have slight drops in glucose or mild hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn So because I threw up during the 3hr glucose test, I have to check my blood sugar levels at home for a week. So just curious what is the normal range? I have to check it when I wake up and 1-2 hrs after every meal.
Avatar m tn This increase in glucose provides extra energy to combat the stress of an illness, but in people with diabetes it can cause blood glucose to rise too high, whether or not you are eating.
1461994 tn?1285897132 Hi there, Why would you think you’re at risk for diabetes? The reference range for fasting blood glucose is <99, I believe. Occasional increases are to be expected; prediabetes isn’t suspected until several fasting BG tests are between 100 and 125. Fatigue is very common with HV therapy; don’t be surprised if you sleep much more than you’re accustomed to. You do want to keep an eye on hemoglobin, as well as white blood cells (absolute neutrophils, actually) and platelets.
Avatar f tn Yes, as I understand it, glycated hemoglobin is the attachment of glucose to hemoglobin, a globular protein molecule. It is a measure of blood sugar levels over about three months time and is elevated when blood sugar has been elevated. I'm looking for information on what levels of blood sugar typically result in glycation. I have not seen my blood sugar go over 127, and I'm wondering what level I should be keeping it under in order to lower my Hgba1c.
Avatar f tn As with fasting or random blood glucose tests, a markedly abnormal oral glucose tolerance test is diagnostic of diabetes. However, blood glucose measurements during the oral glucose tolerance test can vary somewhat. For this reason, if the test shows that you have mildly elevated blood glucose levels, the doctor may run the test again to make sure the diagnosis is correct.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of reasons for memory loss but that includes stress, not enough sleep, too low or high blood glucose levels and to a lesser extent low magnesium. Also the diabetes drug metformin is known to cause low vitamin B12 levels. Low levels of B12 also cause memory loss, fatigue and many other health problems.
Avatar f tn Blood glucose needs to be controlled or diabetic fetopathy can result.
Avatar n tn A fasting glucose test will give a fairly accurate reading of the amount of excess glucose floating around your blood streams. A measurement of 5.0 mmol/l is considered normal, not diabetic.
452066 tn?1400626877 First of all, I am not a diabetic, but would like to learn more about it and blood sugar levels due to a severe arrhythmia problem I have(also have an implanted defibrillator) and I am tired of talking til I am blue in the face to doctors and I feel there may be a link to either my glucose levels or hormones. I have been seen by 2 endocrinologists and both said I am fine...BUT they have told me that my insulin production is very high but they won't do anything about it.
Avatar n tn If the symptoms happen with regularity, you may want to purchase a home glucose monitor and test your glucose when you feel bad. If your glucose levels are below 70, you probably want to drink a small amount (half cup) of orange juice and perhaps eat some nuts or cheese to bring the glucose levels back to normal quickly. Certainly this should be done before you drive a car if your glucose levels are normal.
Avatar n tn What is the ideal blood sugar range during 34 week. My post meal is around 140.
304573 tn?1345577338 Anyone start having problems with their blood glucose levels...seems I am becoming hyperglycemic.....
Avatar n tn Most doctors will do a fasting glucose reading, perhaps a glucose tolerance test, or perhaps a hemoglobin a1c test, which would show the average glucose level in your body during a 3-month period. That really is the best test to find out whether your body is usually maintaining healthy glucose levels or not.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you have blood tests done to determine fasting blood sugar levels. An oral glucose tolerance test may also help establish if one is prediabetic .At this point, I do not want you to worry. As other causes such as stress ,exercises and a recent meal intake may cause increase levels of glucose in the urine. This may be true in isolated cases. An initial work up may be necessary just to check blood glucose levels.
Avatar n tn Thi is my day to answer questions on the Forum, and it appears that you got the perfect person to answer you... I am a type 1 female who has had 2 children. During the second pregnancy, my doctors, who were a team at a teaching hospital, sort of made a test case out of me. They deliberately set my glucose goals so low that I actually passed out cold about once a week from hypoglycemia. I feared for my life, but my doctors assured me that the baby's glucose levels remain constant.
Avatar f tn m afraid not, not with glucose [blood sugar] levels that you posted. Whatever is causing the stress and tension must be addressed. Doing so will help his levels. In any case, he must also make lifestyle changes; adhere to proper diabetic nutrition, maintain proper body weight, and perform daily physical exercise. These, along with medication, help with lowering glucose levels. Google diabetes side effects, print them out and hand it to him. They are not myths and do not go away if ignored.
