Avatar f tn We started to log what she drinks during the day, an average of 70 oz and she only weights 28lbs. This morning I took a fasting reading, she had not eaten in 9hrs and her blood sugar was 109. I'm seen different levels online and I don't know how concerned I should be. There is diabetes on My side of the family and her fathers is unknown. I plan to test her morning fasting levels through the weekend and then speak with dr on Monday if they are in the same range.
125112 tn?1217277462 Fasting is never a great idea. No fasting is healthy if it is longer than one day. There are different levels of fasting. A total fasting state is when you don't eat or drink anything. That is okay for a day or two in cooler climates, but in hotter climates it is too long. You can dehydrate very fast and die. Partial fasting is only slightly better. Some people drink only water and don't eat. This is okay for about 4 days or so.
638537 tn?1222965283 Is it alright to drink a lot of water while fasting for a blood glucose test in the morning? I ask because if I'm dehydrated, perhaps my blood volume will be low, thereby increasing my blood glucose concentration, and test result. As well, since diurectics decrease blood volume, don't they increase the concentration of glucose, thereby increasing the parts per volume test result?
Avatar n tn The authors say IF can lead to lowered blood glucose levels, reduced blood pressure, increased sensitivity to the action of insulin, increased fat metabolism, digestive system detoxification and increased fat metabolism. Intermittent fasts can vary in length from a few hours, for example missing a meal, to abstaining from food for 24 to 48 hours. The length of your fast depends on your will-power, previous fasting experience and daily physical activity levels.
Avatar f tn Im confused fasting means not eating or drinking except for water. so not eating for 14 hours is fasting. any test can be inaccurate for a variety of reasons.
Avatar m tn I don't mean you have to completely cut them out, but do severely limit their intake and when you do eat them, make sure you pair them with plenty of veggies, that will help slow their digestion and prevent them from spiking the blood sugar. Every time you eat something that spikes the blood sugar, your pancreas pumps out insulin and eventually your cells become resistant to it. google "low glycemic diet" and you'll find tons of information.
Avatar m tn Hi, I just recently had a fasting blood test. That morning, about 3 hours before the test, I engaged in a 25 minute jog ( 5.5mph, as I do nearly every morning). Unfortunately, no one had informed me that I should abstain from exercise prior to bloodwork like this. So I'm wondering, how would exercise affect my results? Of particular (though not exclusive) interest are the following: -> Triglycerides (Total was 39. Normally it's around 50 for me, so this is an obvious improvement.
9438937 tn?1403780128 I did a basic water fast, but... adding a small amount of fruit juice takes that funny taste of city water out. My blood pressure dropped ten points on the upper number, and I could not remember the lower number, but it's now at 85, and usually it's 95 or higher. So the experiment worked.
Avatar n tn Your fasting blood sugar numbers of 103 and 104 are in the pre-diabetes category, but only barely (over 100). Your "OGTT" was in the normal range as well, but you need to have a lab OGTT done with a high sugar drink which is absorbed much quicker. The best advice I can give you is that being proactive regarding your health is good, of course, but I think you are driving yourself nuts.
Avatar n tn About a year and a half a year ago, I was diagnosed with impaired glucose fasting, fasting glucose level was 119. At that time I was complaining of constant thirst, frequent urination, and sometimes night sweats, and slow healing. 6 month follow-up (one year ago) the fasting glucose level was 113. A1C was 6.0 I have been modifiying diet, exercising frequently and have lost approx 10-12 lbs.
140029 tn?1393301742 I've been sick for 3 years, had every test done (imaging and blood) and only found white blood cells in the stool that would not culture out. I've finally found out just recently i'm now intolerant to wheat/soy/lactose...nobody else in my family has food intolerances of any kind. I had my TSH levels checked and they were normal but I suspect I was never tested for T3/T4...and some users on the boards have suggested I get retested since this was back in 2006.
Avatar m tn What I want to ask is that I am Muslim and on entecavir treatment for 7 months, is fasting damage my liver and/or treatment? Should I fast or not? Thanks and happy Ramadan.
Avatar m tn I've always read that straight water fasting would be dangerous to a compromised liver but a fresh fruit and vegetable fast seems to be considered a safer way.
Avatar n tn I would say that it would not be the best thing, especially if you are not allowed juice or water. Not to mention that at where you are now in your pregnancy is usually when morning sickness starts if you have not started having it now. To have an empty stomach all day will only worsen the empty stomach. Your baby needs nutrients. I am sure that your family and religious leaders will understand, hopefully.
Avatar m tn Is caliory restrictions good for diabetics? And is fasting going to drop the blood glucose levels too low that diabetics can't sustain concentration and strength thought out the mornings? Intermittent fasting tends to last 12 to 16 hours usually done from 7pm 11am.
Avatar n tn I am expierenicing high fasting Blood Sugar readings in the am how can I correct these or make them come down
Avatar f tn and normally consists of just a grilled fish dinner from Long John's, which is supposed to be about 350 calories. I drink water only. (I eat a LOT of fish and stay away from red meat. I couldn't say when the last time was that I had a hamburger.) At home I usually walk a mile to town to collect the mail and then back a mile. In the summer there is an acre of yard to mow by hand, so I get plenty of walking/pushing/pulling there.
Avatar n tn I would advise you to get a fasting blood sugar and Hb A1 C test done. If dibetes is ruled out then other possibilities which need to be ruled out are prostatitis(inflammation of the prostate gland),interstitial cystitis, overactive bladder syndrome, stroke and other neurological diseases, urinary incontinence, bladder cancer(rare) and bladder dysfunction . Please consult a urologist in that case. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Last night I had a veryyyy heavy meal then today all morning didn't eat anything jst water n few sugar free gums .. my btother was checking his blood I did mine .. it was 99 .. I was like its high for someone who at nothing for breakfast and nothing over night..
1858397 tn?1319809190 Which is to say, this isn't something you can do on your own -- since you have no expertise, you'll need to find someone who does, but generally, it isn't recommended to cleanse the liver if you're on meds. Fasting, on the other hand, isn't liver cleansing, it's fasting. While it might help cleanse your liver, I assume you're going to continue taking the meds -- those aren't ones you can just quit, you'll go into withdrawal and perhaps induce seizures. Fasting is hard enough all by itself.
1767041 tn?1313769051 I found a great little book on the topic of water fasting. It is only 50 pages and is the best overview I have come across and it is only a one hour read. It covers everything from history all the way to how to end a fast. The book is a download from a library in Australia and the link takes you to their sign up page which is simply a matter of your email addy. A page comes up asking for a donation which you can click on “no” if you wish and still get the book.
8101930 tn?1420005056 I have to do my 2 hr fasting test tomorrow. Did anyone do the 2 hr test or did everyone just do the 3 hr test after failing the 1 hr? Is the 2 hr a Canada thing? I only failed my 1 hr by .1 but I'm still very nervous. . Plus sitting there for 2 hrs, getting blood drawn 3 times (my veins sometimes don't cooperate) and not eating anything for that long in the morning is going to s uck!!!! Anyone That did the 2 hr or 3 hr. . How was it? Did it s uck as much as I think it's going too?
Avatar f tn and normally consists of a grilled fish dinner from Long John's. I drink water only and walk 2 miles a day. A small salad, soup or sandwich for supper and in bed by 7:30. I don't eat sweets, drink alcohol or smoke. For the amount of exercise I get I feel that I'm eating way less than what I should to lose. I have had a dozen normal thyroid tests. Glucose, blood tests, cholesterol, ultrasound of my heart/neck, EKG, EEG, Holter, urinalysis, and tilt table are normal.
Avatar n tn One 'authority' on fasting for health purposes claims that the body first begins to use muscle cells in an effort to save its fat cells but then after a short period, switches to burning fat? Is it also true that we never could get rid of the number of fat cells but are only able to shrink them with exercise and diet.
Avatar f tn 4 you mean you had an OGTT test where they gave you a sugary drink and after two hours your blood sugar was 140, that would only be in the pre-diabetes range. However the A1C or a fasting blood sugar are considered the diagnostics for diabetes.
