Common Questions and Answers about Blood drop red cross

blood

Avatar m tn I recently performed a crossmatch on a patient with blood type A negative, but accidentally I cross match it with A positive blood. According to my understanding, this should have resulted in a positive crossmatch indicating incompatibility between the donor blood and the patient. However, the result was negative. Can anyone help me understand why this may have happened, and whether there may have been any errors in my testing process?
197575 tn?1215532624 I was told by the American Red Cross that you can give 5 years after you have the treatment for cancer and it hasn't returned. So, I had my RAI in September of last year and as long as I don't have a recurrence in between now and then, I should be able to give again in 2012. It really bums me out because I was a regular donor.
Avatar m tn Hi I am giving blood today with the Red Cross. I thought I had an hiv risk until teak told me otherwise. Im a regular blood donor (about four times a year) but I was just wondering if there was something in my blood how long do they take to contact the donor? Thank you.

Avatar f tn Anyone had a major red blood cell drop and had to reduce the ribavirin to 4 pill instead of 6?
Avatar n tn I was told by the Red Cross that they had never been asked that questio and were not sure how to answer it. I feel much better after your answer. I waited 22 wweeks to be sure. so one more time do you think the test wqs conclusive.
Avatar n tn Here is the kicker. I really did not take my exposure too seriously, in fact i donated blood to the Red Cross yesterday, my first time giving blood. During the procedure, i was asked all sorts of questions and i answered them all, totally not thinking of the fact that i just had a risky exposure. Now i am afraid i did something very stupid that could put others at risk. I called my partner, he was very angry at the suggestion that he might not have been honest about his HIV status.
Avatar m tn Hi I had a short unprotected vaginal intercourse with a girl I later found out doesn't seem to have a good history (been around). This was on 31 May 2011. I am a regular blood donor, and on the 4 July 2011 gave a regular blood donation to the red cross. I am feeling ill (sore neck, burning armpits, tired etc...) for several weeks now. I am fearing this is HIV. However, nobody phoned my from the red cross to say my blood was contaminated. Or don't they check all blood?
Avatar m tn does anyone know what stds are screened on a blood donation with the red cross?
Avatar f tn I go to the doc on the 8th and im praying that I have dialated some, my doc appointment got cancel last tuesday so tuesday coming up will be the first time my doc checking me since I hit 9 months, my stomach look like it has drop a little if not it feels like it have cause these braxton hicks is not comfortable
Avatar f tn She said she would definitely dispose of any blades she may have bled on when I confronted her about occasional razor sharing. I have been shavin for years now, and The Red Cross claims that my blood is healthy and okay for future donations. I am definitely going to start buying my own razors to eliminate any further risk of contracting the disease. I know my mother would never do anything to put her children at risk for contracting the disease, but razors can get mixed up.
Avatar n tn I spoke to the counselor and sent her my test results, then had go to an appointment to have the Red Cross test my blood. Red Cross found that my blood was fine. I have been waiting 4 months, so far, to get the Ok to donate blood again. I agree that this is insane. Especially since I always get emails that the Red Cross is in dire need of blood. If I end up in another group where one person tests positive, I will not be able to donate again.
Avatar f tn Hi, I can't answer for the Red Cross, but I would doubt that they screen for EBV, because approximately 90% of adults have the virus (although it's dormant in most people). I'm also not sure about the blood transfusion; again though, the most likely scenario is that the person receiving the blood has already contracted the virus, so it wouldn't really matter. Of course, I'm not a doctor, and I don't know for sure; if anyone has more definite answers, please let us know!
Avatar m tn is often used when hemoglobin (hgb) levels drop to a set point and/or when the rate of drop or drop from pre-treatment baseline is significant. The type of symptoms your're experiencing will also figure into the doctor's decision. What was your pre-treatment hemoglobin? What is your hemoglobin now and what week treatment are you in? If your doctor isn't offering helper drugs when appropriate by all means search for a new doctor.
Avatar n tn A couple of years ago I gave blood at a red cross for my school and they sent me a letter in the mail saying that I tested positive for HIV because my white blood cells were high or something but at the bottom of the page it said they tested with a more accurate test and it said negative. I was just curious if I should be worried? I'm really not that worried but I would like an experts opinion.
Avatar m tn If Chronic Lyme is officially a myth then what does Red Cross consider as Chronic Lyme disease? I ask it cause Red Cross won't accept person suffering Chronic Lyme as a blood donor. How can Red Cross PROVE that someone suffers it when this disease is not scientifically proven?
Avatar f tn I tested positive on igm. And neg on igg. Ibe had strange symtoms but no sores or lesions or rash. A few bumps which I had swabbed still waiting on results. Anyways I have an allergy to alpha gal which is found in red meats. (Google lone star tick you'll know what im talking about). I've tested positive for antibodies to this and have had severe reactions after eating red meat before I knew I had it.
Avatar n tn Anyway, my post this evening is somewhat of another rant, I give blood frequently with the Red Cross/VA blood services and I wanted to do something differant, the whole blood donor guidelines are supposidly true for the other services. (in particular, apheresis donation)Apheresis is when they circulate/collect red blood cells through an IV line into a machine.
Avatar m tn I donated blood almost 10 years ago while in highschool and I received a letter from the Red Cross informing me that they could not use my blood due to a test related to Hepatitis B at the time I brought it up with my parents and they told me not to worry about it and that it was a mistake.
Avatar n tn Doc, I was on this site about 8 months ago asking for advice on receving oral sex from sex worker . You had mention no testing need it, but at 11 weeks from the exposure I took OraQuick or Rapid Testing, which was Negative for HIV. Now, red cross won't take my blood and won't tell me, they keep telling me to see doctor. Was I a late converter ? Suggestion ?

Avatar m tn Hello, before I post my situation let me just clarify that I donate blood for the altruistic feeling of knowing that I'm helping someone in a way that I can always do it. Plus the people there are always so nice. Okay, so I had sex with a girl in early March, I had just met her. I used a condom for the whole time, I put on a new one every time I ejaculated. She did give me unprotected oral though. I guess this has just been a nagging thought in my mind.

Avatar f tn When I was 16 I donated blood thru my local red cross blood drive at my school, a few weeks later I recieved a letter in the mail saying I was ineligable to donate blood anymore ever because my blood has an anti-hepatitis c in it. I automatically scheduled an appointment with my PCP and she didn't seem too worried, said it was nothing to be worried about. I recently went to enquire about donating plasma, I am basically wondering if this would prevent me from being able to donate plasma.
