481269 tn?1208280771 It worked great for me loosing weight. But, I do have 2 friends that mixed alcohol and phentermine and it was NOT a pretty site. It can increase some of the side effects of phentermine. It makes you have the ability to drink a lot more than you are used to, and it actually made both of my friends crazy in behavior.

Avatar m tn Others are able to start by controlling their blood pressure through life style changes. Things like maintaining proper weight. Know the target BMI and where your partner is. Begin trying to eat healthy. The DASH diet is a great thing to incorporate. This is similar to the Mediterranean Diet, Basically, less red meat, more fish. Less processed food, more vegetables and fruits. Exercise is important t exercise the heart but should consult with a doctor first. Less sodium. Less alcohol.
283921 tn?1218525506 Talk to your doctor about alternatives for lowering BP. I have have read that sugar, caffiene, alcohol, and stress can increase blood pressure, so try to reduce or elimate as many possible sources as you can. I have read that Omega3 fatty acids may decrease blood pressure. I have read celery, garlic and onions may reduce blood pressure.
Avatar n tn I have Hep C - 1b - Grade 1, Stage 1-waiting for better drugs-could not complete treatment. Anyway, I was doing a search for the alcohol threads to remind myself why social drinking is not acceptable and could not find them. I am not nor have ever been an alcoholic or heavy drinker, but I so miss certain socials and good wine with good food! In San Antonio, Texas there are so many festivals!
Avatar f tn So I see that alcohol seems to definitely make pvcs worse. As I love my glass of wine each night, I'm trying to choose between giving that up completely, or going on the metropolol. What is everyone's experience with that med? Is it pretty helpful? Would I have to abstain from alcohol anyway, while on the med? I'm also wondering about the effectiveness of biofeedback. I've read that it can help with blood pressure and irregular heatbeat. Does anyone know anything about this?
Avatar m tn wouldn't that mean there was more alcohol than blood.
Avatar n tn Hi there! You've reached the Dogs Community and I think you were looking for a different forum. If you're looking for the caloric content of various alcoholic beverages, you might try one of the diet related forums here at Med Help. From my own experience, alcohol isn't a good idea if you're trying to lose weight or you're diabetic. It gets metabolized to sugar in a heartbeat.
Avatar m tn What you need to keep in mind, though (especially we young people overreacting on adrenaline) is that both alcohol and beta blockers reduce blood pressure (hence our heart rate seems to increase with drinking to compensate) and we can get dizzy due to low blood pressure (in addition to the alcohol;). I took my 15 mgs of Pranolol today and I'm going out for a beer today. It's never been a problem before. Ask your doctor though, just to be completely sure.
Avatar n tn i am 26 year old and have a high blood pressure since a week and from past 4 days somtimes in a day i also feel pain in my head on the left hand side. the high bp problem started, when i joined gym, i took tenolol 25mg to control my bp and i was fine afterwards. Avatar m tn whenever I drink alcohol (just 1 drink). Before going to bed my blood sugar is about 110 whether I drink alcohol or not. But my fasting glucose is between 140 and 150 if I drink alcohol and it is from 115 to 125 if I don't consume any alcohol the previous night. In summary the dawn phenomenon is exasperated by alcohol. But every thing I am reading is against this. I'm wondering if any one has any logical explanation for this.
1102792 tn?1285925260 was taking atenolol 100mg, amlodipine, captopril and moduretic daily for the hbp but have recently dropped off atenolol and amlodipine and resorted to a reduced salt diet, little or no alcohol and little or no smoking. I have noticed that pirton seems to help with the rapid sneezing and antacids seems to help with the smelly throat and sour taste in the mouth.
Avatar n tn Keep a morning evening record of your blood pressure for a few days. If your blood pressure remains high after medication, then there are two possibilities. Either the medication is not suiting you. OR there is some underlying cause which needs to be eliminated.
Avatar m tn Also, if you are taking any herbal supplements or over-the-counter weight loss pills, I would stop those until you see the doctor. Some can raise blood pressure in certain people; even St. John's Wort, which is OK for a lot of folks to take, can increase blood pressure sometimes. Also, unless your doctor has said you can't have fresh fruits, etc. I would be sure to eat fruit daily--especially bananas, berries, raisins, etc.
Avatar n tn Have you recently gained weight? That can make blood pressure go up. So can eating a lot of salty foods, fried foods, fatty foods; having a lot of caffeine (like in energy drinks, colas, etc.); drinking a lot of alcohol or taking street drugs. Stress can make blood pressure go up, too. I would check again and see what your blood pressure is. Sometimes if you take your blood pressure right after you lift heavy weights, for example, it can be higher than usual.
Avatar f tn I am not too familiar with blood alcohol, but I would think that maybe you could have been dehydrated and that could have caused the reading. Try drinking more water next time.
Avatar n tn Regular exercise that increases intensity can cause a release of CPK into the blood stream. Weight lifting and running are two types of exercise that can increase blood levels of CPK because there is mild damage caused to muscle tissue involved in the building of new muscle tissue. However, your doctor can perform (well he could have anyway) that indicates WHICH CPK levels are high; whether it is skeletal, brain or cardiac.

Avatar m tn How did they come to this conclusion? Nonetheless, alcohol in either scenario will be bad in any amount at any time. Extra weight puts added pressure on your portal vein and makes everything work harder, so, yes, losing weight and exercising would be helpful, too.
Avatar n tn Hi alcohol can cause low blood sugar levels for some due to its effect on the liver. But even more it can cause those person with diabetes to pay less attention to their health and blood sugars. This does not mean you can never drink alcohol, But it should be taken in moderation only. When you do have a first drink (remember moderation) do it in the company of a trusted friend so you can safely see the effect it has on you.
