Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol testing equipment

alcohol

Avatar n tn I am a relatively new nurse, so I think I am probably just over reacting, but I need some reassurance. Last week, I accidentally touched some medical equipment in the ER that I assumed had been disinfected, when I looked closer it still had blood on it that was wet. I immediately washed my hands. Afterwards, I examined my hands very thorougly. The only nonintact area that I saw was on my index finger, and it appeared to have been an abrasion from days ago that was healing.
Avatar f tn She does NOT sterilize her equipment. When she is done with each person, she soaks them in alcohol. Is there anything to worry about? Or should I figure that if there is not fresh blood on the object, and it is in alcohol, that I cannot be infected with HIV or Hepatitis C? I need to know what the chances are. Thanks!
Avatar n tn s why sex or the overt exchange of blood -- as with contaminated injection equipment, or from mother to baby in the uterus -- are the main ways HIV is transmitted. Supercial contact of the sort you are worried about has never been known to result in HIV transmission. Nobody in the world has ever been known to catch HIV from exposure to blood in the environment. In addition, HIV remains pretty rare in China -- a very tiny proportion of your country's population carries the virus.
Avatar m tn 1) Can hiv survive outside its hosts? any blood , fluid , semen or possible hiv fluid in the wire swab can transmit hiv to me when its insert into my urethral? 2) Any blood , fluid , semen or possible hiv fluid in the small blade use to scratch my gland penis for some cell can transmit hiv to me ? 3) Lancet for rapid test finger prick can cause hiv if it is not sterilized?
Avatar m tn , opened an alcohol swab, etc) with the old gloves. We took my bandage off from the blood drawn around 12am. She swiped my arm with an alcohol swab and there was blood on my arm. I am worried that it wasn;t my blood and might be blood from usage of old gloves and prior patients. I am worried about possible risk to HIV. Please provide as much info as possible. If any of this isnt clear, or you need further info please let me know. Thank you.
Avatar m tn s glove indeed contacted the blood, and even if that blood were infected, the alcohol wipe would have instantaneously inactivated any virus present; a little blood on the band-aid would not be able to transmit infection through a needle wound; and it is difficult to imagine that the nurse touched the needle through which your blood was drawn.
Avatar m tn one last concern, i got my hiv(hiv1 and hiv2)test report and the entire testing process took 4hrs. So do u think its 3rd gen rapid test or elisa test?
Avatar f tn i have read somewhere that alcohol makes HIV blood inactive....is that true sir???? and for the last time sir can u tell me if im infected with HIV from this incident..??? really sorry to waste your time sir......
Avatar m tn I have sustained a hollow bore nedle stick injury while aspirating from a patient. I of course did the usual of cleaning my finger with alcohol, expressing blood etc.. The patient is a nepali house worker. She appeared healthy and at the end appeared to have a benign breast tumour( the result of the aspirate). Blood was drawn from both of us for HIV 1 and 2 (By Elisa), Hep C and Hep B and we were both negative. So I left the incident behind me.
Avatar m tn Responding to the title of your question, before reading anything else: it is probable that nobody ever caught HIV from nicks and cuts received in a barber shop. I'm sure you have no worries about hepatitis C or any other sexually or blood borne infection. Now having read the details, I really have nothing more to say. Electric clippers probably do damage the skin.
Avatar m tn Could you not unplug it and clean it with rubbing alcohol and allow it to dry before using it again? Just use the alcohol on a cotton ball and rub it over the exposed parts. Don't soak the machine. Alcohol kills most germs, but it must be allowed to completely air dry to kill germs. I'm not sure what you are trying to teach your friend, but keep your personal items to yourself and let him buy his own.
Avatar m tn t sterilize his equipment, if you are worried get a blood test for hepatitis to ease your anxiety about the matter (hep panel covers hep a, b, and c)

Avatar m tn Thanks for your information. Actually I tested my blood sugar 3 hours after ate. I am not diagnosed as diabetes till today, but I am awared that my blood sugar level may increase in this my age because of my bad eating habits like sweet, meat, rice , alcohol drinking etc. That's why I am testing my blood sugar level regularly. I want to know whether testing after 3hrs ate is perfect or not.
3806367 tn?1348194646 I had a physical on Friday (Sept 14), they said I was do for a tetanus shot. The doctor also wanted me to do blood work to see if my vaccinations are up to date. So I get my tetanus shot and then go get blood drawn. I get a call a week later from the doctor saying my liver is swollen or something and he said it looks like there might be Hepatitus C anti bodies in my blood. So, I need to schedule more tests.
Avatar m tn im a tattoo artist an juss had a situation with pricking myself on the tip of my thumb with a needle ( which was actually 5 fine needles grouped together for a larger line ) i stopped tattooing after removed my gloves an applied pressure to see if it broke skin indeed i had a small small amount of blood so i applied more pressure an pushed out a bit more blood then cleaned the area with alcohol. after changed out all my utensils an replaced everything new.
Avatar m tn Then i left the the sample collection room after some seconds, Is it possible that the nurse did NOT draw my blood at all? Or, is it possible that the lab issued a testing result printed paper having my full name in it, without having a blood sample from me?
Avatar m tn He was using alcohol after he shaved my leg before tattooing and I think that he put some alcohol on machine and tube before he started. He was using brand new bandages to put on my leg latter. I was talking to him before we started and he said that he wash his equipment in water and soap before using every time but he never mentioned autoclave machine.
1916673 tn?1420233270 No, and then my vet put my dog on medication for high blood pressure, saying it would help slow further kidney damage..
Avatar f tn The nurse who was drawing blood was a bit of a nimrod. Before drawing blood he opened the alcohol wipe and put the packet on the table and the alcohol wipe, while being partially still in the packet, made contact with the table. He then used the wipe to wipe my arm, then wiped the arm wit a cotton ball. He then drew the blood.
Avatar m tn You will have to ask on the Hepatitis B forum for that part of your question, but for HCV I can tell you that it is transmitted by blood to blood contact, not normal sexual activity. It is NOTconsidered an STD, and for any transmission on a personal level it does require getting the blood of an infected individual into an open wound of your own.
