Avatar m tn I am a 44 year old male, in good shape physically and thin. Prior to 2007 I had almost never drunk alcohol. However in the past two years I have unfortunately gotten into the habit of drinking 2-4 drinks per day about four days out of the week. I would like to know if I have damaged my liver through this to a level at which it will show up on a liver function test (GGT or similar). I have stopped drinking recently and plan on staying away from it permanently.
Avatar n tn I know IV drug users have sometimes taken longer to sero convert, could this also be the case for long time alcohol abusers? 4. Can I be confident in my test reults out to 9 months. I really want to put this issue to rest. Thanks for all your help this forum has been very helpful.
Avatar f tn The reason for this is that many of the things we take in we pass along to the baby. This is why there is such a hard line on drinking while pregnant. The alcohol level in the mom's blood will be the same as the alcohol level in the baby's blood. Your body can work and break down the alcohol and get it out of your system. The baby's liver is still developing and is not ready to break down alcohol. Therefore, the alcohol will be around longer and can harm the baby's development.
Avatar f tn So I'm wondering how long alcohol takes to get out of your system? So I can pump enough breast milk for "x" amount of days before my milk is good again.
Avatar f tn well what is going on is I went to my Dr and was like Hey my foot is getting worse pain-wise Why ? so he sent me to the podiatrist who in turn had me do a blood test for gout. peps with 1 kidney usually have high uric acid levels and I have had gout flares in the past. anyway he orders the blood test and I do my liver screen at the same time and urinalysis.. He also set me up for a sonogram our echo ? of the blood flow to my foot and a ct scan of it. Then out of the blue I get a call my Dr.
Avatar n tn The thing that gets me is how long have I had it. I am almost 50 years old and have had blood test fo one reason or another off and on for years and it just now poped up. I have several tatoos some as old as 30 years old, last one probaly 5 years.Thinking thats where it came from. Wish there was a way to know for sure.
Avatar f tn Im scared to death and I need to know how long will these witdrawal symptoms last? Is anyone else doubled over in pain and have blood in stool?? I am new to this site and not real good at navigating it yet. Forgive me if you have already answered these questions. 967168 tn?1477588089 they didn't tell me this and I had no clue until I got my results that I wasn't supposed to have alcohol. This brings me to the alcohol topic and how many posts I've read about others having problems when drinking - Alcohol dehydrates your body as well as enlarging this heart -please be cautious about alcohol.
Avatar f tn Also, it dehydrates you and that can affect electrolytes and your heart. It can also damage the liver. You shouldn't be mixing Xanax with alcohol or your blood pressure meds.Plus, the amount of alcohol that you drank at once could cause alcohol poisoning resulting in death.
Avatar n tn There are ways to do things safer, but don't drink to increase supply, and don't breastfeed WHILE drinking (which is most certainly not what you did). Find out from your doctor about how long the alcohol is in your system w/ your BMI, age, and then you will truly know how long it takes for the alcohol to metabolize so that you can continue to nurse safely.
149918 tn?1208132344 Unfortunately, her quality of life was very poor. I don't know how long it kept her from having severe symptoms, but she was in a holding pattern with muscle atrophy, feeding tube and no voice for a long time. She may still be alive for all I know! Funny how this alcohol post turned into something completely different! Are you a geno 1? I wish I could remember everyone's stats. Can barely do the math to know how much longer I treat.
Avatar n tn It's been a long time since I was in school and studied this, but I believe it has to do with how the liver metabolizes alcohol which is very different in alcoholics. And probably explains why I had this incredible tolerance from the very first time I ever drank.
Avatar f tn I don't think that any of these suggestions will make continuing to drink tons of beer a healthy occupation, but there are HUGE differences in the health of alcoholics or drinkers (whichever you prefer), depending on how well they take care of themselves. Keep in mind that women metabolize alcohol differently than men, meaning the stuff is way more toxic for us than for men.
Avatar f tn Recommended I have another blood test, which I did that day. He called Wed to deliver the news, positve for hepc. After I got a vague, watered-down answer to "I have what? What does that mean". He said I should have a "more extensive" blood test and would probably need to see a very good expert, Dr. Xia Kai recently from Mayo and practicing locally. I had a voice mail from Dr. Kai's office on Friday that I needed to make an appointment.
Avatar m tn thanks dee! yup I asked my gastroenterologist liver specialist (hepatologist). doctor many time , do i have cirrhosis ? he said no! that is why he dosenot want me to do biopsy. so he is gonna do a CT for me on oct 13th. thanks for ur time and sorry my poor English , thanks again Dee!
3806367 tn?1348198246 Welcome to the forum. "If I have hepatitis C, wouldn't it have shown up in the blood work done from the ER," No, the Hepatitis would not show up in the blood they did in the ER because they most likely did not do a test to see if you had Hepatitis. "Would the tetanus shot have done anything to the blood test? " No, it would not. "I really don't see how I could have it anyways." Not to be flip, but join the crowd.
Avatar n tn It's a blood test to determine whether or not you have Hashimoto's or Graves (autoimmune thyroid disorders).
Avatar n tn I took some ativan so I actually feel pretty relaxed except for these extra beats. Will my rhythm go back to normal on its own and if so how long should I wait it out. I've had all the HEART tests in the past coming back normal but I've never experienced an episode lasting this long without a break. Please advise!
Avatar n tn Today I had a routine physical and am wondering what the odds are that my blood test will show that I drink too much. I generally drink 6-8 beers a day, and have done so for 5 years or so. Last year I had complete blood tests come back fine. I am trying to cut down, but I am just nervous and looking for a shoulder or advice. Am I really on the road to liver damage after the amounts that I have been drinking? Thanks everyone for all your help.
Avatar m tn However, I kept getting symptoms which are classic signs of anxiety. My one question is how long can these affect me? Two months later and I still get dizzy spells almost daily, chest heaviness, a cloudiness to were I can't concentrate on anything and digestion problems. Will these eventually go away? I've been to my Primary Care about 4 times in the last 2 months. If I don't have a sinus infection or something then these must be caused by stress? Are these purely psychosematic?
Avatar f tn Depends on how much u drink. But yes u can buy strips and test ur milk or pump once and discharge it before feeding baby. There are safe ways around having a drink or two speak with ur Dr.

Avatar m tn He's also extremely hungry and thirsty. I've read that all of these are possible phenobarbital side effects. How long do these usually last before the dog gets used to the medication? I'm hoping that these are not signs that something else is wrong, though I am aware of the possibilities.
