Avatar m tn m a 27yr old Male, So in late 2015 I lost my left kidney (Trauma Nephrectomy) due to a bmx accident, I was a pretty big drinker up until the accident and now I drink anywhere between 15-30 standards through out the week, mainly on weekends, I was wondering if this will ever effect me and around what age area and what is likely to happen if something does, my liver is known to be 100%
Avatar n tn Recently I have had intermittent upper right quadrant pain for a few months and recently after some extended alcohol intake the pain was worse, so I had ultrasound and blood work. Ultrasound revealed possible gallbladder polyp or non-shadowing stone measuring 6mm (liver was of normal hepatic echogenicity and all other organs normal). Blood work revealed ALT 59 (Quest says not high as has to be above 60) while AST 32, Bilirubin .9, Albumin 5.1, Alk Phosph 86, Protein 8.
Avatar f tn This is my first child, I'm 24 weeks pregnant and I know pretty nothing about safety standards & crib standards. I want to know pretty much everything before my little man gets here. Can anyone tell me if a 'portable crib' with a drop side is up to standards. And if they can provide me a reasonable website to read information on any safety standards for a new born.
Avatar n tn No; not in Canadian culture anyways. Where you live and the beliefs around drinking alcohol will determine whether or not this is "socially" bad, but science shows that drinking a small amount of alcohol daily (especially from fermented sources) can actually be good for you and in particular, your vascular system. Many societies have or have had alcoholic beverages (especially beer) as their main drink simply because water quality was, or is, poor.
Avatar n tn A lot of time and testing by a GI guy came up with nothing (gallbaldder ejection test, endoscopy, etc., all the standards), metabolic blood work, and a MRI to look at her medula oblongata have come up with nothing. Mild inflamation does show up in the blood, but no one has wanted to pursue that. They think it's from the vomiting. She takes birth control pills, and we recently changed these to see what happens (too soon to tell). She is on no other medication.
Avatar f tn Before I went to have my FBS drawn for my physical, I was extremely nervous to the point my heart was pounding. I always get scared before blood is drawn at the Drs. My result was 107. Could my anxiety have caused the high reading? I'm wondering if I really don't have pre-diabetes and it was a false elevation due to nerves.
362971 tn?1201987034 Does anyone know what Alcohol consumption ( >30 g/day in males, >20 g/day in females) is. I have seen this posted before and was curious how many drinks this 30 g/.day equates to.
Avatar n tn i went to the doc and asked to be tested for all stds. i got a pap and blood work. is hiv testing standardly included in the blood work or do i have to ask for it separately?
Avatar f tn Usually, fasting begins at midnight for a test the next day. Your sugar by the standards of your lab states it was high on your first test. The repeat is normal. I am not sure if that was a fluke. I'd probably get it checked in another 6 months to see where you are at. This article may help you understand how blood sugar can fluctuate and when it is normal. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what the standards of care are, for medical conditions, and how to locate them? I am undiagnosed for 13 years... 1-Constant aching in my sacroiliac area. 2-Severe leg pain, and swelling and pitting edema in both legs, when I stand or walk. 3-Feeling sick and very tired, expecially after exertion. 4-Swelling and redness of my nailfolds when walking, which now has become constantly red. RECENT SYMPTOM: Pitting edema in my wrists and abnormal immunoglobulin tests...
Avatar f tn I am not too familiar with blood alcohol, but I would think that maybe you could have been dehydrated and that could have caused the reading. Try drinking more water next time.
Avatar n tn Hi alcohol can cause low blood sugar levels for some due to its effect on the liver. But even more it can cause those person with diabetes to pay less attention to their health and blood sugars. This does not mean you can never drink alcohol, But it should be taken in moderation only. When you do have a first drink (remember moderation) do it in the company of a trusted friend so you can safely see the effect it has on you.
Avatar n tn * If the PCR swab is more reliable than the blood test, how can blood tests be confirmatory for HSV especially since the majority of people do not get their symptoms swabbed (or are asymptomatic)?? I have read of many people (on this forum & others) that have had a positive culture swab and 6 months, even a year later, have not developed positive blood tests for HSV II (and were NOT on suppressive medication to delay results).
Avatar m tn Thanks but this just doesnt answer my question, my question is can you get HIV from using reuesed needles when drawing blood? There was an incident in China years ago that villagers sell blood using reused needles and nearly the whole village got infected, you can google, now you know why im so worried.
Avatar f tn Yes, alcohol affects blood sugar level - Each and Every time it's consumed. that being said, High blood sugar and high blood alcohol content would be 2 separate elements measured in Your blood. 80% of the alcohol from EVERY drink goes directly to the blood stream and, THAT is why You have high blood alcohol content. Four drinks would put everyones' blood alcohol above the legal limit Alcohol is harmful to the body - as is diabetes.
967168 tn?1477584489 still no info on why this recommendation on my cardiac cath and no alcohol; however I did find this - Limit alcohol intake.
Avatar m tn Hi ! Recently I've been to go-go club and got a lap dance. I kissed the dancer breast and got strange taste in my mouth like blood. The problem is I'd got my tonsils removed 17 days before and don't know if my mouth was fully cured after the surgery. If there was really blood I have something to worry about concerning HIV infection ?
Avatar f tn Eat foods that are high in antioxidents this will assist your liver with removing toxins from alcohol. Exercise will force blood in to the muscles pushing out the toxins as well. Do this a long with the water and you will be feeling and smelling much better. If you ever drink again you will smell like this forever so don't do it! lol j/k I wish you the best!
Avatar m tn This may sound like an odd question, but for our frat we are looking to have our initiation include us drinking a large cup filled with 90 proof alcohol and added a single drop of blood from 8 people. Is this safe? Will the alcohol kill diseases, pathogens, and bacteria in the blood? If this is not the right place to ask it please refer me to another place.

Avatar n tn I just received blood and urine tests back that resulted in abnormal levels of albumin, bilirubin and alt/sgpt. Here are the results based on the “reference range” Albumin – 5.2H (Normal range- 3.5-5.0) Bilirubin – 1.3H (Normal range- 0-1.2) ALT/SGPT – 18 L (Normal range- 20-65) My doctor said that this can be due to an increase in drinking or too much drinking.
Avatar n tn I would tell your brother to abstain from alcohol, pain meds (tylenol), supplements, etc for one month and re-test blood including another Hepatitis panal. If liver enzymes are still elevated make appointment with a liver specialist (Hepatologist).
