Blood alcohol serum levels

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol serum levels

alcohol

Avatar m tn Because measurement of this enzyme is easy and inexpensive, it has generally been used for early detection of chronic alcohol misuse. However, serum GGT activity loses its specificity for alcohol in more advanced liver disease because its activity is elevated in hepatic inflammation and more advanced liver disease regardless of the cause.
Avatar n tn A high dietary intake of iron, alcohol intake, multiple blood transfusions and hemolytic anemia can lead to high iron levels. Serum iron levels fluctuate during the day so it is preferred that the test should be done fasting. Other tests like trnasferrin saturation and TIBC may be needed. Liver biopsy to measure iron content of liver tissue confirms the diagnosis. Seek the opinion of hepatologist.Do keep us posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn My doctor gave me vitamin d supplements and then I started taking 2,000 IU per day. Recently, I had another blood test and my serum phosphate had dropped to 1.6 mg/dl with normal being 2.5 mg/dl - 5 mg/dl for the lab that did the test. Is this something I should be concerned about and pursue with the doctor or is this normal? My vitamin d-25 levels have all been in the 20-30 mg/dl range since I started feeling ill. Also, I've had a hard time finding supplements that contain phosphorus.
Avatar f tn Thanks for this, i had a recent blood test which was after having 11 days of abstinence and levels were alt 56 ast 48 serum gt 86. Would i expect to see further improvements in a further 11 days? Making abstinence period of 3 weeks?
Avatar n tn can prozac and trazadone cause false positive or elevate serum blood alchol levels
Avatar f tn Hello, For delayed periods, first possibility is of pregnancy. To confirm the status of pregnancy, I would suggest you to get your serum HCG levels estimated since this is more specific than urine for pregnancy tests. The HCG (it is a hormone) levels rise only in pregnancy and its presence will confirm the status of your pregnancy. If pregnancy is ruled out, then other causes of delayed periods need to be looked into.
Avatar n tn Normal levels of serum CPK vary from 0 to approximately 188 micrograms per liter. Different laboratories may report slightly different upper limits as within the normal range because of differences in test procedures and population differences. Thanks for the question, and if you have any followup questions you are welcome to respond. Take care.
2046116 tn?1330102721 Yes my blood work is fine. Haemoglobin is good, blood count is good, white blood cells good and blood pressure is normal. No cancer. I am not anaemic. There is no problem showing, but there is obviously one. I can tell you when one is going to start. I get immense pressure in my head, eyes and gums, then out of no where bleed. After bleeding, due to so much blood loss, I get a headache and really dizzy. They have no explanation. can you think of anything?
Avatar m tn s not clear whether your elevated levels are due to your medication, or to your fatty/alcohol liver disease. I mention fatty because this is the typical affect that chronic alcohol consumption has on the liver. So your De Ritis ratio, Ast/Alt, is 0.95. And this is basically normal, especially given that both your enzyme levels are elevated.
Avatar m tn Also, the final step in the metabolism of thyroid hormones, when they are transported into the nucleus of cells, is dependent on both D and iron levels. In other words, you can feel hypo, even with perfectly adequate serum thyroid hormone levels, since you ARE hypo at the cellular level, but the cause is not a dysfunctional thyroid.
Avatar m tn At one end of the spectrum, infected persons may have no signs or symptoms of disease progression and could have normal levels of serum enzymes, the usual blood test results that indicates a further progressed stage. At the other end of the spectrum are patients with severe hepatitis C who have symptoms, high levels of the virus (HCV RNA) in serum, and elevated serum enzymes, and who ultimately develop cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease.
Avatar m tn Some consensus seems to be developing for alcohol causing a moderate suppression of peripheral serum thyroxine (T4) levels with more significant suppression of triiodothyronine (T3) levels in chronic alcohol users [Table 2].[17,25] In addition, alcohol-dependent individuals may present with a “euthyroid sick syndrome,” evidenced by low levels of T3, high levels of reverse T3 (rT3), and normal levels of T4.[26,27,28] https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
2038871 tn?1329798210 Factors independently associated with raised serum AFP in patients with cirrhosis were female gender, black race, decreased platelet count, increased serum AST/ALT ratio, serum ferritin, and Mallory bodies in liver biopsies. Serum AFP levels decreased significantly during therapy with pegylated interferon α-2a and ribavirin. HCC was identified in six subjects, only three of whom had AFP>20 ng/mL.
Avatar f tn Serum albumin is produced by the liver, occurs dissolved in blood plasma and is the most abundant blood protein in mammals. Albumin is essential for maintaining the oncotic pressure needed for proper distribution of body fluids between blood vessels and body tissues. The reference range for albumin concentrations in serum is approximately 3.5 - 5.0 g/dl So, also for albumin you are within normal range.
304573 tn?1345577338 Anyone start having problems with their blood glucose levels...seems I am becoming hyperglycemic.....
Avatar m tn Recent bloods show low serum iron levels, normal ferritin levels, normal red blood count and high in inflammation. What could be causing this? GP thinks it's connected to ETAP and intestine not absorbing iron, getting enough blood. Being referred to specialist. Not sure what all this means.
4309115 tn?1357606283 However the usefulness of measurement of serum GGT is limited by its lack of specificity. Raised GGT levels have been reported in a variety of clinical conditions including (1): pancreatic disease myocardial infarction chronic obstructive pulmonary disease renal failure diabetes obesity alcoholism Drugs such as phenytoin and barbiturates may cause high GGT levels (2).
Avatar m tn I had a routine blood test for my thyroid levels last week but dr. also did FBC and Iron levels as MCV was ever so slightly below normal last test. My thyroid is fine (maintain 125mcg dose) but I came out with these results... Serum iron level: 6.9 umol/L (normal = 11 - 36) Serum TIBC: 76.
