Blood alcohol serum conversion

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol serum conversion

alcohol

Avatar m tn Because measurement of this enzyme is easy and inexpensive, it has generally been used for early detection of chronic alcohol misuse. However, serum GGT activity loses its specificity for alcohol in more advanced liver disease because its activity is elevated in hepatic inflammation and more advanced liver disease regardless of the cause.
Avatar n tn I have read that most FT4-to-FT3 conversion occurs inside a cell, NOT in the blood. Thus, it appears that measuring the amount of FT3 in the blood is giving us an incomplete picture of just how much FT3 we have in our bodies. So, why do we rely on the FT3 blood test so much? And is there a way to determine how much FT3 there is inside a cell?
Avatar n tn ve had some blood tests for Vitamin E (serum) and Selenium (serum/plasma) over the past 7 years. The Vitamin E (serum) and Selenium (serum/plasma) levels have always been in the lower one-third of normal range, except for one Selenium (serum/plasma) test in July 2013, which showed a Selenium (serum/plasma) level in mid-normal range. My last Vitamin E (serum) and Selenium (serum/plasma) tests were in June 2017. The results were as follows: Vitamin E (serum) = 7.9 (normal range = 5.3 - 17.
Avatar n tn Because deficiencies in Selenium and Vitamin E could interfere with FT4-to-FT3 conversion, I had blood tests for these substances. The results were as follows: Selenium (serum or plasma) = 150 (normal range = 79 - 326 ug/L) (detection limit = 10 ug/L) Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) (serum) = 7.0 (normal range = 3.0 - 15.8 mg/L) Because these results were within the normal ranges, I thought that I did not have any deficiencies, and I did not take any supplements.
Avatar m tn (Belgium, 2000) The explanation is that TSH is grossly in feedback with serum T4 only, not so much with serum T3, while the patient's wellbeing depends on the free T3 that is disposable inside the cells.
Avatar f tn Orally administered prednisone, in a dose of 20 mg each day for nine days, resulted in a significant decrease in mean serum TSH levels (p less than 0.01) without significant changes in levels of serum T4, T3, and thyroxine binding globulin (TBG). These findings suggest an inhibitory action of relatively low pharmacologic doses of prednisone on TSH release without changes in circulating thyroid hormone concentrations or inhibition of the peripheral conversion of T4 to T3.
Avatar f tn About 5-6 weeks after starting on a T4 med like Synthroid it should reach full effect on serum levels of Total T4 and Free T4. There are anecdotal indications that conversion of T4 to T3 may continue to increase for a while after that. In other words it is believed that it takes some time for the conversion process to ramp up to full effect.
948882 tn?1270553807 Response from Paul Martin, MD, FACP Professor of Medicine and Chief, Division of Hepatology, Center for Liver Disease, University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) seropositivity indicates the presence of hepatitis B viral (HBV) infection (acute or chronic). The disappearance of HBsAg from serum with development of the corresponding antibody, anti-HBs, indicates conventional resolution of infection.
Avatar n tn I drink several times a week, usually 5-6 beers. With other results normal, is alcohol the cause of the high serum iron? I take a lot of vitamin supplements, including a multi-vitamin with iron. If I stop drinking will the iron level go down? If so, how long will it take?
Avatar m tn Have you monitored your test results from before and after a med change. Sometimes the med increase causes the TSH to drop and thus less production of natural thyroid hormone, which is both T4 and T3, Since the Thyronorm is only T4, I guess that you could speculate that the med change is affecting the level of Free T3 unless conversion is adequate to make up for the loss in natural T3 production.
Avatar m tn I am having errectyle disfucntion since two months and took the blood test and results are as below. My physician has told me that i am having sublcinical hypothyroidsm and prescribed 25mg of levothyroxine and told me that ,this medicine can boost my testosterone to normal level. He did test for anti bodies for hypo. Should i undergo the test for antibodies as well? How long does it take to reflect the changes on my testosterone level.
Avatar n tn Haemochromatosis causes weakness, fatigue, and pain in the right hypochondrium near the liver. A high dietary intake of iron, alcohol intake, multiple blood transfusions and hemolytic anemia can lead to high iron levels. Serum iron levels fluctuate during the day so it is preferred that the test should be done fasting. Other tests like trnasferrin saturation and TIBC may be needed. Liver biopsy to measure iron content of liver tissue confirms the diagnosis. Seek the opinion of hepatologist.
Avatar f tn B12 levels that are too low can cause some hypo like symptoms. Ferritin levels that are too low can inhibit conversion of T3 to T3 and cause excess conversion of T4 to RT3. So if you haven't tested for B12 and ferritin, that would be a good idea.
