Blood alcohol ratio

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol ratio

alcohol

Avatar f tn ) At the time blood work was all good and ast 12 alt 18 (1.5) ratio. Dr. diagnosed fatty liver and discontinue alcohol. I have and received new blood work. alt 8 & ast 12 so ratio is still 1.5. All other labs great (albumin, bili, etc). We are not sched to do an ultrasound for another few weeks but i'm freaking out that this is cirrhosis. No Symptoms / signs. Anyone have any input?
Avatar m tn ve read online state if ALT is greater than AST it is indicative of being viral as in hep c. With that said, the same ratio typical with alcoholic liver disease is usually 2-1 ratio. My question is, do you still see those numbers that close together in alcohol related disease or does it appear to be more viral? Or cant you tell by the lab values alone? Also, what is the difference in values normally seen in hep c patients? Oh, and also, MCV is 109.8 with a UL of 99.0 Thank you for your time.
Avatar f tn Sleep deprivation, Stress and Caffiene can increase your cortisol level. The rest of your blood work looks good for the most part. The BUN and Creatinine are your kidney function tests. The ratio is BUN/Creatinine I'm not sure why those are not off compared to the ratio but if you aren't feeling well what are your symptoms? Any pain in the back where your kidneys are? Urinating ok? As was mentioned have your TSH (thyroid) tested. Do you feel ill or have any other symptoms.
Avatar n tn From what I understand, the ALT is within normal range and the AST is slightly elevated, but the ratio is most concerning. I read that a ration of ALT/AST >1 is an indication of cirrhosis, but the examples I see online are where the patient's ALT and AST value are near or above 100 iu/L Is the correlation with cirrhosis and a ratio above 1 true even at these low levels? If I quit all alcohol intake can these numbers improve?
Avatar n tn I've recently developed increased sensitivity to alcohol, can't drink as much and get worse hangovers. I've always been a very heavy weekend drinker but sober up during the week. Results from recent blood work: Albumin 4.6 g/dL ALT 28 U/L AST 19 U/L Bilirubin 0.9 mg/dl Globulin 2.0 g/dL (low - ref range 2.2 to 4.0) EGFR 108 FPLT 276 k/mm3 Albumin Globulin Ratio 2.3 WBC 3.0 k/mm3 (low - ref range 4.0 to 11.0) Neutrophils 1.29 k/uL (low - ref range 1.6 to 0.
Avatar m tn An AST/ALT ratio greater than 2 in a patient without viral hepatitis indicates alcohol induced liver disease. The higher the ratio the greater probability that the cause is alcohol induced liver disease. Once SVR, the AST/ALT ratio in the non-cirrhotic patient is most likely to be greater than 1 (ie AST is higher than ALT) but less than 2. But as long as one is UND, this really does not matter. I was just curious if this theory held true in RJGCedar's case.
Avatar n tn I went into the emergency room with heart attack symptoms. It turned out to be a false alarm for a heart attack, but the doctor was concerned because my liver function tests were high. The ast test was 146 and the alt was 68. I am following up with my physician... any ideas? I have never been one to drink alcohol and I don't smoke. They are following up with a stress echo to rule out the heart and have just sent out more blood to test for hepatitis.
Avatar f tn As of now, I haven't been tested for Hep C because I don't have risk factors (I know that doesn't matter). I learned that growing up my mother used drugs and my grandfather is an African American vet who I lived with both growing up. I'm sure we probably used the same toenail clippers and such. I recently received my bloodworm back from my CMP and these are my numbers. They seem low, but I am very concerned as the alt is higher than the ast. My alt is 15 and my ast is 13.
Avatar f tn Total bili 0.5mg,Albumin 3.6gm, AST 22 UNITS,ALT 32 UNITS , A/G RATIO 0.8 L,Platlets 459,WBC 13.90,RBC 4.87,Ferritin 31ng, B-12 479 PG/ML,FOLATE 21.10 I am concerned about the suggestive findings for cirrhosis and the a/g ratio What do you think ? should i be worried.I have pain in the right upper quad, history of, on and off alcohol and sub abuse. Any imput is welcome. Im terrified!!!!
Avatar m tn Should I be concern about my Lab test results. I go see the doctor tomorrow is there anything I should ask the doctor.I'm just nervous. I have Diabetes and high blood pressure I'M 26 black male. Out of range Reference range HDL Cholesterol 33L 40mg Chol/HDLC Ratio 5.
Avatar n tn The less you have, the more LDL gets left in your blood and the higher your risk. Your ratio is very high and is a good indicator of possible problems later in your life. My HDL can be as low as 37 but my LDL is 74 so my ratio is good, I can get by with less HDL because my LDL is so low. The best way to increase HDL is exercise and Niacin, but you should talk to your doctor before starting either one.
Avatar m tn When the liver cells are damaged the enzymes spill into the blood and so the levels are raised in blood testing. So, if the basic insult is dealt with, the enzyme levels should normalize. Also, obesity, diabetes and high triglyceride levels can cause fatty liver changes. So, prevention or cure is by avoiding alcohol and treating diabetes, obesity and high triglyceride levels. You can also use herbal medications like LIv 52, it helps in regeneration of the liver.
Avatar m tn 1 AST:ALT ratio. Does this mean that alcohol is probably not the cause? Could alcohol have kick started something else and it transformed into a whole new disorder? What do these levels indicate to you (Doctor)? cirrhosis? What should be done next?
Avatar m tn I am a 27 year old male that drinks alcohol more than average, but not at alcoholic levels (probably around 15-18 drinks per week). I have had 5 blood tests in the past 9 to 10 months for various reasons (insurance applications and follow-up with primary doctor), and in each test my ALT liver enzyme has been slightly elevated near the low-to-middle 60s (72, 54, 62, 64, 68, respectfully).
Avatar f tn Nuts, fish and other foods containing omega-3 fatty acids are helpful in changing your LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio. Adopt lifestyle changes. Exercise daily and avoid smoking and alcohol ingestion. These all will help. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar m tn In December 2010 my GP doc did blood work after my first ER visit and my a/g ratio was a 2.4 out of reference range of 1.2-2.2, so it was high. My alkaline phosphatase was 122 out of reference range of 39-117 IU/L, so it was also high. Albumin and bilirubin were normal. Went back to that GP again January 7, 2020 after another alarming ER visit. Metanephrines were 66 out of 0-62 range. Another January 2020 blood test showed an a/g ratio of 2.3 out of 1.2-2.2.
Avatar m tn I had n episode of fewer chills vomiting n diarea and after the sonography revealed coarse echotecture with mild hepatomegely noted with mild edemetous echopattern 8 months ago.n now the other us shows intrahepatic biliary calculi or old healed granula. Avatar f tn 1 ratio was already standard next-day hangover prevention procedure for me when I started noticing these symptoms, and yeah -- it hasn't been enough at all. It takes more like a whole day's worth of water for me to not be in pain from one alcoholic drink.
