Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol metabolism rate

Avatar f tn I'm not sure to whom you are addressing your question. I haven't done a lot of research on the subject, but since hypothyroidism does affect metabolism, I'd guess that alcohol metabolism would be altered, just as food metabolism is altered.

Avatar f tn Metabolism is another way of thinking about the rate at which calories are burned. Heavier people interestingly have higher metabolisms than smaller people do, because they require more calories over the course of a day to maintain their body's functions. I generally don't recommend supplements to increase one's metabolism, but small amounts of caffeine as well as catechins contained in green tea will boost metabolism a bit.
Avatar n tn A 3rd basal metabolism test reveled subnormal metabolism. It took 2 months on natural thyroid, but her blood pressure decreased, her heart rate came down into the 80s, and her hand tremor was less noticeable. I believe this story is on p. 44.
Avatar f tn The medication you refer to are drugs that relate specifically to the chemistry of which remodels blood vessel anatomy and heart rate and doesn't affect alcohol levels in the blood. There may be an interaction that affects metabolism with coreg and has side effects.
3040236 tn?1421532463 Metabolism 101 Metabolism is the process of breaking down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats to yield the energy your body needs to maintain itself. The rate of your metabolism depends on the interaction between the number of calories you consume, the number of calories you burn while eating and exercising, and the calories you burn based on your individual genetic makeup. How can you increase your metabolism?
Avatar f tn After these enzymes have been activated, they remain so even in the absence of alcohol, affecting the metabolism of certain drugs for several weeks after cessation of drinking. Thus, a recently abstinent chronic drinker may need higher doses of medications than those required by nondrinkers to achieve therapeutic levels of certain drugs. Third, enzymes activated by chronic alcohol consumption transform some drugs into toxic chemicals that can damage the liver or other organs.
Avatar n tn I would not advise drinking with any medication that affects your metabolism, but that is a hard question to respond to when no knows your medical history, age, any high BP? it is just to vague to respond with an answer, so to be safe, I would say no, and the medication is still in your system, so just not taking it the day you drink Does not make it safe.
Avatar n tn m 100% certain he was in no way drunk at all. His blood alcohol level did not get back to 0 until 1am...about 24 hours before he went to bed the night before.
Avatar n tn It kinda depends on how ur metabolism is alcohol peaks 30 to 90 minutes after a drink so id definitely wait at least 2hrs after the shot.
Avatar n tn says my last pap 1 year ago showed negative on the first part of the test, and unreadable for the second part, because there was too much blood, he was concerned given all my recent discoveries, and had another one on Friday July10, 2009, where he told me that I had Cervical Erosion, but yet my homone levels appear normal.
Avatar f tn Going back to your response to the lady who asked about alterations in alcohol metabolism after partial or total thyroidectomy, is it true that if you are suffering from hypothyroidism that it is possible that alcohol metabolism could be slowed/ altered? I would appreciate any feed back you can offer.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure is this low normally. I don't take anything. As to getting the pressure up, I am not too sure, but, I really do not think you have to worry unless you are getting uncomfortable symptoms like dizziness, fainting and such. The heart rate is what I call "high normal"I would ask your doc about that. If you are not getting enough rest, I have heard that the heart rate can increase, so can eatting certain foods you might be allergic to.
Avatar f tn list=PL9FxWnfq1Oyo9pHHUPHeQne4iqoZ4zTN_ Figure your heart rate by this formula 220 minus your age gives you your maximum heart rate. You should try to get your heart rate between 65% and 85% of your maximum heart rate. You burn 30 percent more fat from doing cardio after a weights session as opposed to cardio on its own. You can't lose weight by just doing exercise! you need to diet!! Get the OK from your doctor!!!
8442871 tn?1398141631 What medication are you taking? Many antidepressant, often used for anxiety, are notorious for weight gain, and even relaxants can slow metabolism, but it would depend on how often you're taking them. So what drugs and how often? Alcohol is also a relaxant and also slows metabolism, that's the whole point of drinking it.
Avatar n tn No mystery here. Alcohol has that effect on many. My daughter got married yesterday and I celebrated quite a lot. I woke up at 3 AM very tachy. I took my beta blocker early and drank a few glasses of water. It was much better this morning. Today I did notice more PVCs than I've been having, but I also forgot to take my fish oil today. We'll see if it was acting up because of the alcohol or if they've returned.
Avatar m tn One beer or a glass of wine will cause my heart rate to increase considerably. Alcohol acts as a vasodilator, causing blood vessels to dilate and blood flow to increase.
Avatar f tn The reason why our body has trouble breaking down the alcohol is because we have inactive enzyme called aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), which is normally responsible for breaking down acetaldehyde, a byproduct of the metabolism of alcohol. Acetaldehyde is a toxin and, as result of your body not being able to properly break it down, this toxin accumulates and causes the red flushing that we all commonly refer to as Asian Flush.
