Blood alcohol impairment

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol impairment

alcohol

Avatar f tn Basically, ammonia levels are of limited use for diagnosing cirrhosis or hepatic impairment. I would also think some other results of your blood work would have been out of range if you are cirrhotic or are suffering significant liver impairment. I haven't seen vertigo cited as a symptom of encephalopathy but it may be. I think you would be experiencing more mental issues that just a little forgetfulness which I think we all have to one degree or another.
Avatar f tn When the EF (ejection fraction indicates the amount of blood pumped with heartbeat), it almost always is the result of a heart wall impairment. A damaged heart wall is unable to contract forcefully and as a result a low EF. Normal EF is 50 to 70%. Damaged heart walls can be the result of a prior heart attack that harmed heart cells. Heart cells can be damaged due to toxins (alcohol, drugs medication), due to blocked vessels, prior illness, etc.
Avatar m tn While most people are familiar with the short-term physical effects of alcohol on the human brain, few people realize some of the long-term effects of alcohol are permanent and incredibly disabling to the brain, and can cause physical and mental impairment for life. The effects of alcohol when a driver gets behind the wheel, places the lives of others as well as his/her own at risk.
Avatar n tn alcohol W/D is a medical emergancy A person in alcohol W/D may experience frighting Hallucinations and DT (delirium Tremens) a syndrome characterized by restlessness, fever, sweating, disorientation, agitation, convulsions, and death, seizures. severe acute alcohol ingustion can cause Hypoglycemia (low blood suger).
Avatar f tn She was also telling me that he was supposedly on medication and that concerned me because he was drinking and if he is on medication for a speech impairment should he even be drinking alcohol at all or might it be okay if he only drinks socially? Could it possibly be that he shouldn't be drinking because he on medication in general not based on the the fact he is taking the medication for a speech impairment.
Avatar n tn My body has adjusted to low blood oxygen I work full time and lead a reasonble life,is it best to leave well alone even though I am very breathless and must admit am getting a bit worse or try steroids as has been suggested.
Avatar n tn That condition is almost always assoicated with a lack of sufficient blood/oxygen to the area in question. Many individuals have a lack of blood flow to the area due to occlusion of coronary arteries. Also, there can be a depletion of oxygenated blood due to low oxygen level in the blood. Or there could have been an episode of a silent heart attack sometime in the past. That was my experience.
Avatar f tn However, it is sure that alcohol can cause quick impairment of brain when taken with Paxil. The hangover caused by consuming these two simultaneously will be worse. Also, this practice causes a craving for alcohol. It also causes anger and anxiety. It is also important to know that this combination will lead you to very painful experiences." http://www.paxiloral.com/paxilandalcohol.html Not only are you acting out in a very negative way, but you're starting a bad habit.
1328576 tn?1275061930 Hypokinesis is an impairment of heart wall movement and often the result of blood perfusion to the location of the impairment. The seriousness relates to the degree of impairment, location, and underlying cause. How was the diagnosis of hypokinesis determined?
Avatar n tn Essentially she feels it is not anything to be overly concerned about and feels that I can just go on to lead a normal life without any impact on duration or quality. My blood pressure is low and always has been. I did not find out which specific cardiomyopathy it is and wondered if you would be able to suggest which you thought it could be? Everything else in my heart looks to be normal. Thank you Jessica My echo did say: Normal LV size with low normal systolic function.
Avatar n tn Either way there is an impairment of heart wall movement (hypokinesis), If the cells are in hibernation, a restoration of good blood flow can revitalize the heart cells. Seven years ago I had had a silent heart attack, enlarged left ventricle, occluded vessels, an EF below 29%, congested heart failure...There was a stent implant of one vessel and medication to date has returned my heart to normal size and the EF is 59%.
Avatar f tn Hypokinesis is an impairment of heart wall movement. That condition will reduce the heart's contractility causing less than normal cardiac output. Normal output is approximately 55 to 75% (ejection fraction) of the left ventricle during the pumping phase. Usually hypokinesis is the result of a prior heart attack and/or heart muscle disease caused by viral infection, excessive alcohol or drugs, medication, genetic, etc.
Avatar m tn Hypokinesis means heart wall impairment. Perfusion is blood flow. Inferobasal is the heart wall location. When there is a decrease of blood flow (ischemia) that can/will effect the heart wall movement (hypokenisis). It appears you have slight heart wall impairment due to heart vessel blockage medically referred to as CAD (coronary artery disease).
Avatar f tn s ability to adequately pump blood into circulation or the impairment is of less significance and can pump enough blood/oxygen to meet the damand. The defect is global rather than a specific area of the LV. Hypokinesis is often caused by a heart attack. However, the contractile function of the heart can sometimes be restored after the initial treatment of a heart attack by treating the blockage(s) with medication, angioplasty or bypass surgery.
Avatar m tn Is there any chance you mean blood glucose also known as blood sugar? If so some questions that come to mind would be: Has your father been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes? What treatments were prescribed? Did his doctor suggest diet and exercise?
649924 tn?1225719708 She also mentioned Chronic ischemic microvascular disease. I have NO idea what that means, unless it means small blood vessels in his brain are shutting down. My questions are overwhelming and I cannot ask my husband's neurologist because He [my husband] is very sensitive about the terms dementia and Alzheimer's. i read that most MCI patients go on to have an Alzheimer's dx within 5 yrs. Is this TRUE?
Avatar m tn Diffuse hypokinesis is not localized heart wall impairment. Hypokenesis is heart wall movement impairment that may reduce the heart's ability to pump adequately...weaker than normal contractility. The cause is usually due to occluded heart vessels that partially or completely block the blood flow and medically termed ischemia. Sometimes the heart cells can be revitalized when there is restoration of blood flow with a stent, medication or bypass of blockage..
Avatar m tn My SGPT and SGOT values were in excess of 100 (I used to be a heavy drinker till that point in time). For the next 6 months i cut down on alcohol (from everyday in the past to just once a week ). My SGPT dropped to 80. In the last 6 months, i have been more stringent with avoaiding alcohol (when i drink i dont drink more than 2 pints / 60 ml of whisky say 1-2 days a week) Recently underwent an ultra sound - The doctor said i have fatty liver and my latest SGPT readings are at 67...
Avatar n tn Hypokinesis is heart wall movement impairment and that effects the strength of left ventricle (pumping chamber) and reduces the ejection fraction (EF normal is 50 t0 70% of the blood pumped with each heartbeat. Global hypokinesis is impairment that isn't localized to a specific area. Dilated LV indicates the heart chamber has enlarged stretching the outer heart wall. This condition will impair heart wall movement and decrease the EF.
Avatar m tn When I see someone asking a question such as this I am wary about answering since it is apparent this is a problem for you. Pleeease be careful and see your family practitioner for recommendations re this. See this site for more info drugs.com I copied and pasted this for you. MONITOR: Enhanced hypoprothrombinemic response to warfarin has been reported in patients with acute alcohol intoxication and/or liver disease.
Avatar f tn Hypokinesis indicates heart wall movement impairment. The condition can be due to ischemia (lack of blood flow) of heart cells in the position given. A better test would be an echocardiogram to view the heart wall movement in realtime, and if there is an impairment that is significant the test will calculate an EF below normal. EF (ejection fraction) is the percent of blood pumped into circulation with each heartbeat.
Avatar f tn ) The echo report should show the degree of impairment by the calculation of the percentage of blood pumped out with each heart rate...referrred to as EF (ejection fraction, normal is 55 to 75%). There is some minor leakage of the heart valves...not considered significant and is a common condition .
Avatar m tn The left ventricle wall (pumping chamber) squeezes against the wall separating left and right chambers to pump oxygenated blood into circulation. If the chamber wall has an impairment to the heart muscle, there is less of an ability to pump effectively and the EF will be lower. When the EF falls below 29%, that usually indicates the amount of blood pumped is not enough to meet the system's demand and considered heart failure range.
Avatar m tn Hello, Using zolpidem together with Seroquel may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also take the medicines at different intervals. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
