Blood alcohol breastfeeding

Common Questions and Answers about Blood alcohol breastfeeding

alcohol

Avatar f tn You certainly can drink and breastfeed as long as its a reasonable amount you are drinking (roughly one drink per hour). Firstly pump and dump is a waste of milk no matter how much you pump the.alcohol in your milk is Dependant on the alcohol in your blood and how quickly your body metabolizes it. Test strips are also a waste of money... Also just because you have a drink or two over the course of about an hour doesn't mean that your breast milk has the same alcohol content as your drinks.
Avatar f tn It takes one hour for each unit of alcohol to work through your blood and also your milk. So if each drink contained 1.5 units of alcohol for example you would need to wait 3 hours after your last drink before your milk would be safe for your baby. Also, if you have been drinking you should never pick up your baby. Or allow your baby to be picked up by someone under.the influence of alcohol.
Avatar f tn Everything I could find said that pump and dump is an old method and that alcohol stays in your milk like it does in your blood stream. Once your body metabolizes the alcohol it would no longer be in your milk. Some people think that once you drink that the milk that your body produces would be tainted with alcohol until it was expressed and a "new batch" was made.
2207301 tn?1340990867 If you're BFing you have to pump and dump, and will also need to pump ahead of time to have milk stored for when you're not able to feed him. Alcohol goes into the milk and doesn't disperse like it does it our body, so just waiting a few hours won't get rid of it. It's best if your BFing to just not have alcohol at all. Your baby gets the same thing you drink, and I doubt I need to tell you how dangerous that is.
Avatar f tn Virgin drinks are basically nonalcoholic drinks. Which is ok to drink while breastfeeding because it doesn't contain any alcohol. And no, you absolutely CANNOT drink ( alcohol ) while breastfeeding!!
Avatar f tn He said the alcohol is not permanently trapped in your milk just like its not permanently in your blood. As it gets out of your blood, it also gets out of your milk. I would assume it would be the same with a cigarette but im not completely sure. You could always call your doctor and ask. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I exclusivly BF my son for 12 and a half months, when ever my milk supply would run a little low on milk I would drink lots of water, eat hearty foods and...even though this may come as a shock to some people and seem bad to others I had one beer each day right after one of my LO's feedings, so that the alcohol would not go directly in to his blood stream, it worked great!!!
9934012 tn?1441755539 I want to know what do everyone think about drinking wine occasionally while breastfeeding seeing that am 25 and I have been pregnant for my 25 birthday see that I have not drank anything for 9 months am not a alcoholic I just want to know how do I go about it were I dnt pass liquor to my baby girl am 36 weeks by the way
10476455 tn?1423121400 t work, the alcohol that shows up in your milk is directly related to the alcohol in your blood stream. No amount of pumping will make it come out faster than your body normally metabolizes (which is roughly one drink per hour) with that being said the alcohol in your milk is the same as that in you blood stream, not in your drink. If you have one glass of wine your breast milk will not be 12% alcohol like the wine was. It will be about 0.
Avatar f tn ve read that pumping and dumping is of no use because the alcohol will leave your milk when it leaves your blood stream... LA Leche league still recomends it the last time I checked, not sure which is correct. I also read that the amount that does get into your milk is so tiny that the baby getting drunk or feeling it at all isn't the concern, it's the babies liver that is the concern.
Avatar f tn You may not have to pump and dump PvP enough for baby to have with sitter and then a little extra. Your milk well be clean once your blood stream is clean. But just like 1 glass of wine would even really hurt anything.
Avatar f tn I am lead to believe pumpin and dumping doesn't work. The alcohol stays in your milk while its in your system. When you sober up, your milk should be fine. But i would definitely recommend alcohol test strips to be safe.
Avatar f tn Now I feel incredibly worried that I breastfed while there was alcohol in my system. I read that breastfeeding when youve had some alcohol is hard on the babys liver and could cause developmental difficulties. From now on I will pump if I am going to drink at all. I feel worried that I had a few drinks then breastfed. Do you think there is any harm done?
Avatar f tn Im not sure about smokin bt wih drinkin you dont have to pump and dump while drinking unless you're pumping for relief. Its like when you drink and the alcohol is in your blood. If you time it and its out of your system (blood) then its out of your milk.
Avatar f tn t feel tipsy and number and the breast milk will be free of alcohol. I guess as your body is able to metabolize the alcohol from your blood it does the same with the milk? Anyone use the breast milk test strips?

8274643 tn?1406141596 m going to be breastfeeding and was just wondering how long does it usually take alcohol to get out of your system from 2 drinks that don't have much in them? Of course I'm going to be pumping as well since I have twins so I'll have plenty pumped before then but I'm just curious. And no I'm not gonna drink to get drunk since I'll have my little girls I just want to have like i said 1 or 2 daqauries to celebrate but nothing more.
Avatar f tn Im really scared i accidentally ate a cupcake with mariguana nd im breastfeeding..
Avatar f tn I am breastfeeding my newborn and I was wondering are there any food that I should avoid??
Avatar f tn Not an expert on breast feeding......but I believe that the breastfeeding is similar to the fetal blood barrier ...... not necessarily everything that goes in your body crosses that barrier to the fetus.......so Mom can have something in system and not the child. And the actual concentration of a metabolite in breast milk would be very low.... So the counselors most likely do know what they are talking about. Should maybe listen to them.....
