Bloating from alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Bloating from alcohol

gas

Avatar m tn I do not have any food allergies. I used to be able to drink alcohol normally. Occasionally hangover like anyone with too much drinking. Then about a year ago I began to get more hangovers. Now I can't drink more than a few sips, and I will be hungover the next day. After those few sips I will get a bit of tingling in the back of my head/neck. Happens with any time of alcohol. Any suggestions? Had blood tests and all are normal. Two GPs have no idea. Thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi I posted here a month or so about a problem I was having with abdominal pain/bloating and got some good help with it but the problem doesn't seem to have gone away permanently. Here's my issue: I'm a 33 year-old male. After drinking alcohol (mixed drinks, beers, etc.) the next day and for several days afterwards I have uncomfortable bloating feeling in my lower abdomen and often a swelling/stiff feeling in my on the left side of my lower abdomen.

She also speaks of bloating occurring from delayed gastric emptying where bowels have not been working properly due to fluids not pushing against them. It is best to stay away from a high fiber diet. Hang in there. You need to go through the discomfort to heal your body.
Avatar m tn A major reason behind alcohol-related bloating is the consumption of alcohol in large quantities (binge drinking) and after a long gap of time. The toxins and wheat or grain ingredients that alcoholic beverages contain, can cause the rapid loss of electrolytes from the body. The stomach tends to bloat because of the accumulation of sulfur-bearing gases in the gut wall. These gases even cause pain and abdominal discomfort that lasts for two or more days.
Avatar m tn Just from the symptoms you describe, it sounds like IBS. You may want to discuss this with your GI doctor as there are medications to ease the symptoms. How is your BP? Often a one sided headache can be caused by high BP, also eye strain, sinuses, or ear problems.

Avatar m tn To relieve it I use my three major fingers from the index to the one before my pinky .I push down and keep pushing all the way down and out until I feel all the gas go away following down through into my stomach then I just gas it out.Note I have to keep doing this a few times to relieve it all. Is there a natural remedy with no chemicals that can relieve it other than say like Gas X ?

Avatar n tn 9 About a month ago, I noticed I was getting quicker inebriation to alcohol and worse hangovers. I’ve allways been a weekend drinking averaging 6 to 8 beers a night for 3 nights a week, sober during the week. I’m 44 years old. I went in for an abdominal ultrasound a week and a half ago and haven’t been contacted with the results. I’m scared.

Avatar m tn Bloating is from gas and this is produced by colonic bacteria. Alcohol is delicious nutrient for bacteria, they happily grow on it... Alcohol, if in sufficient amount, also impairs small intestinal epithelium, and thus causes malabsorption. Non-absorbed nutrients then reach the colon and again feed bacteria. If all this was from alcohol, it should go away in...days. But if stress was strong enough, it's possible, you've developed IBS.
Avatar m tn Around 10 months ago, I developed heart burn and reflux and severe nausea and moderate bloating when I wake up. I was in stressful times so I related it to my stress. I took PPIs and domperedone for 4 months then stopped gradually as I've became in a better psychological condition . The reflux and heartburns were reduced significantly and became drastically less frequent and related to spicy meals or fast food. The thing is, I still wake up with bloating and nausea in the morning till now.
Avatar m tn I mean I have had bloating, no spasms
Avatar f tn You may want exclude any sugary food (sugar, sweets, fruits, cola, any alcohol, beer and potatoes (starch)) from your diet for a week and see results. Fibers are good in constipation but they produce gas - so think. Raw vegetables produce a lot of gas, also cereals and fruits. Maybe you should drop fivber supplements for a while, if you're taking them.
Avatar m tn Alcohol will quickly irritate the liver further so absoloutly no alcohol, work on eating heathier foods and try to refrain from using pain medications. You should follow up with your doctor in two months for lab testing to check your livers condition.
Avatar n tn Alcohol can have a very deleterious effect on the pancreas which could contribute to a number of the symptoms you're listing. It can also impact the liver and produce symptoms, and in addition it can cause problems in the stomach which would effect the 1st step in digestion and therefore change all the other steps and produce symptoms.
